Episode 25: After All, It’s Just a Rumor
The reason why Hime, a genius who doesn’t even need to attend school, is enrolled here—
It seems there’s a rumor about it.
“Of course, I don’t know if it’s true or not. I don’t really believe it myself… But there’s a reason why I can’t laugh it off as pure nonsense.”
“A reason?”
“Her elder sister is, well, um … something else.”
After which, with a heavy sign, Kumori-san said:
“She’s—really, *really* stupid.”
Those words made me instinctively hold my head in my hands.
If I’d heard this before meeting Sei-san, I might have dismissed it as a joke. But after having lunch with her and talking to her, I couldn’t deny it.
It’s true—she doesn’t seem like the type to be good at studying.
“Her grades are, well, extraordinary—on the low end, of course.”
“…Even though she looks so smart?”
“Yessu. She’s incredibly elegant, beautiful, composed… and yet, she ranks dead last among her school year. Her scores are so low that even her friends won’t show her their test results.”
If she didn’t say a word, she’d come across as a beautiful honor student.
Just that, the moment she opens her mouth and her personality comes through—to an extent that she can be termed ‘relaxed’ in good terms, but a total scatterbrained if being blunt about it. So I couldn’t exactly deny it when I heard her grades were bad.
From that get go, she definitely seems like the type to dislike studying. Be it effort, or determination, basically far-far away from all that hot-blooded talk.
“That said, it’s just a baseless rumor with no clear source… I don’t think it’s true, but when people point to her grades as evidence, it’s hard to confidently say, ‘No, that’s wrong!’”
“…Un, I’m not saying I believe it, but I’m glad I got to learn more about Hime and Sei-san. Thanks.”
Even though it’s only a little, I felt like I’d gained a deeper understanding of the Hoshimiya siblings.
**Hime’s immense accomplishments intimidate those around her.**
**As a result, the truth about the sisters gets slightly exaggerated.**
Now that I understood these two points, I felt there was no need to hear more rumors.
There is a possibility that Kumori-san might know a few more of those said rumours, but they’re probably just as unreliable. That’s likely why she hadn’t been eager to share them.
In that case, there was no need to press and hear more about it.
My understanding of the Hoshimiya siblings didn’t seem too far off the mark, so this was good enough for now.
If I really want to learn more about them, it’d be more reliable to spend more time with them directly.
“Senpai, thank you so much for today! Thanks to you, I had such a great time knowing all those cute stories about Hoshimiya-san!”
Also, the newspaper club member, Kumori-san turned out to be much nicer than I’d initially thought.
Although her polite speech might be a bit odd, but she’s courteous and respectful.
(*Surprisingly so… there aren’t as many bad people in the world as I thought there to be.*)
Hime had been the same. At first, she gave off a feeling of a cold, distant person, but once I got to know her, I realized how warm she actually is.
I felt so ashamed of myself for doubting Kumori-san as well.
I could trust that someone like her wouldn’t write a malicious article. I truly believe that now———.
With that, Kumori-san saw me off, as I left that unused classroom.
It seemed I had been talking to her longer than I thought I would—it was already nearing evening.
Thinking that I should head home quickly as well, I returned to my classroom.
And there, an unexpected figure awaited me.
“…~Suuya…”
There was a female student sleeping at Hime’s desk.
Her features resembled Hime’s, but her build was the complete opposite.
(*W-Why is Sei-san here?!*)
Yes, sitting there was none other than Hoshimiya Sei.
