Episode 16: The Distance Between Boys and Girls Is Beyond a Little Girl’s Understanding
To be honest, I was getting a bit unsure about how to address her.
Calling her “Hoshimiya-san” would likely cause Hime to respond as well, so it might be better to call her by her first name if possible, or so I think.
Just that, if calling a classmate—especially one as stunning and popular as her—by their first name so casually… If I were so capable of doing that, I wouldn’t be living such a “Mob A” like background character life in the first place.
In terms of Hime, it was easier because she was younger, moreover, still a child, so I didn’t feel much hesitation.
However, when it came to someone my own age, I couldn’t help but feel incredibly reluctant.
I start feeling presumptuous on using her first name to address.
This hesitation was probably something unique to adolescence. I couldn’t help but be aware of her as an opposite sex.
“I don’t really mind, though. Yohei? See? It’s normal~,” she said nonchalantly.
“Onee-chan doesn’t seem to understand the concept of ‘restraint,’ after all you see”
“Muuu! Hime-chan, that’s so rude!”
“Yohei-kun is someone with a modest and refined charm. So, I think it’s fine if you don’t force yourself to—- …A, no wait! On a second thought, it’s definitely best if you call her by her first name!”
Nn? Even though she was on my side until halfway, just what led Hime completely changed her stance all of a sudden.
Then she stood up and leaned close to my ear.
“(*Yohei-kun, since you’re going to marry Onee-chan in the future, it’s better to start getting used to calling her by her first name from now itself*),”
*koso-koso
The warmth of her breath as she whispered in my ears felt slightly tickling.
Wait… What? It’s not like that future is set in stone or anything, though?
Still, the fact that she was whispering about this ‘marriage’ and stuff, meant she hadn’t told the person in question about that yet.
If that was the case, that’s a relief. I might have been overthinking and stressing myself out unwantingly. Knowing that, I felt a bit more at ease and calm.
“Arre~? Whispering secrets and leaving me out is quite unfair both of you~”
“It’s nothing important. So, please don’t pout now.”
“…Muuu~.”
After that, Hoshimiya-san puffed out her cheeks in a sulky manner.
The way she pouted was exactly like Hime’s… and seeing that, I couldn’t help but feel more at ease.
Perhaps being overly formal made her uncomfortable instead.
Hime was the same way. She looked annoyed when the principal and teachers treated her with excessive deference. Similarly, her elder sister—she is more relaxed with casual, natural interaction.
If that’s the case, I should just act naturally too.
“—Sei—-san, is that okay now? Sorry, I guess it is still too nervous for me to call you by your first name alone, without honorific… Maybe I’ll do that when I get used to it.”
With a frank attitude, I decided to strike a balance—be friendly, but not force anything.
Ideally, I’d like to call her by her first name, but adding “-san” was as far I could manage right now. Saying that honestly, she… slowly (“Pshuu~”) deflated her puffed cheeks.
“Fumu, guess can’t be helped nyaa~. I’m fine with that,”
Saying that, Hoshimi— sorry, Sei-san flashed a bright smile towards me.
Phew, I was glad. While she might not be completely satisfied, at least she seemed to accept it.
“Ufufu. Come to think of it, this is the first time a boy has called me by my first name. It’s kind of embarrassing~.”
W-Waaa, it’s your first time?!
Even though she seemed so casual and comfortable about it,
I assumed she was used to being called by her first name by boys. Apparently not.
“Since we’re at it, Yohei-kun should just go and give me a nickname too! Say, how about ‘Hii-chan’? That would feel closer and make our relationship more natural, you know”
However, it seems Hime wasn’t getting entirely happy with how things are turning out.
She was probably still pushing her agenda of marrying me off to Sei-san… thus trying to make us look even closer for the process.
[TL: I wonder.]
But, honestly nicknames were a bit too much of a hurdle for me right now, so I hoped she would let it go with only this level of familiarity—for now.
