- Chapter 5 - Kaguya Sakashita’s Impure Proposal (2)
Kaguya Sakashita’s Impure Proposal (2)
“So, in other words, you saw Yua Niimi got close with someone else, didn’t you?”
I bite my lip in surprise.
How did she know? Her deductive skills are truly impressive—she should become a novelist or something.
“And judging from how depressed you are, you must’ve seen them…umm, kissing or something like that, didn’t you?”
I’m astonished.
However, it seems like she hasn’t quite reached the idea of ‘seeing them having sex’, but she’s completely on the right track.
“…yeah, that’s right.”
I confirm Sakashita-san’s words.
“You’re absolutely right. That’s impressive, Sakashita-san.”
I feel a mixed feeling of surprise and shame.
“I think the genre is called ‘Netori’? I actually got brain damage from reading it.”
“I don’t think that’s right. Since we aren’t dating, it falls into the category of ‘I liked them first’.”
“…you know a lot about this.”
“…it’s general knowledge.”
She looks away, as if embarrassed to make a mistake.
I have so many questions for Sakashita-san, but I feel like they might be considered sexual harassment if I ask her about it, so I keep quiet.
Instead, I take out my frustration out on her.
“Sakashita-san, you’re really insensitive.”
“…I hear that a lot.”
“Seriously, you’re awful. I didn’t plan to talk about it that much.”
“…I’m sorry.”
She looks genuinely sorry as she bows her head.
“But, thank you.”
When I say so, Sakashita-san looks up to me with a surprised look on her face.
“Just a little, I feel better.”
I managed to force a smile and said so.
“I’m glad that I can be a help to you.”
She says so and smiles.
“What are you talking about? This is just the beginning. You’re going to listen to all my complaints.”
“…ahaha, please go easy on me, okay?”
After that, I continue to vent all of my frustrations.
How I have always liked her. How I thought our feelings are mutual. How shocking it was to witness that scene. How I haven’t eaten anything since this morning. I feel like I can talk for hours, but I run out of words in about five minutes.
“…sorry, it’s still really hard for me to talk about it.”
With every word I spoke, tears stream down my cheeks.
Just when I’m closing my eyes and about to wipe my tears, something gently touches my cheeks.
It’s a handkerchief, Sakashita-san is wiping my tears.
“You’re such a kind person, Ogura-kun.”
“…why is that?”
“You never said anything bad about Niimi Yua-san.”
“…I did. I said many bad things about her when I’m alone.”
Ever since that night, I’ve been treating Yua like she’s trash.
I think it’s incredibly selfish. After all, we aren’t even dating or anything like that.
I’m the one who have unrequited feelings towards her and end up feeling betrayed all on my own.
“You’re blaming yourself, aren’t you?”
It’s as if she sees straight through my feelings.
“You can’t forgive yourself for the fact that you end up thinking badly of someone you love so much.”
…how can she understand me that well?
“Sakashita-san, you seem to understand everything.”
“I don’t understand everything. Just the things I know…ah, and I’ve always wanted to say that. Do you know it? It’s a line from a novel.”
“Sorry, I don’t know it.”
“In that case, why not try reading it!? We have all the volumes in the library. I think it would be a nice change of pace!”
Her kindness touches me.
“…I’m sorry.”
But right now, I’m not in the mood for a change of pace or anything like that.
“Then, here’s a question. Why are men so concerned with a woman’s virginity?”
“…what’s the sudden question?”
She raises her index finger, ignoring my question and says,
“It’s known that women use their sense of smell to avoid men who are genetically close to them. In other words, by unravelling gender preferences, you can see the biological rationale behind them.”
Sakashita-san starts to talk about a complicated topic.
I’ll just listen to her with a serious expression on my face for now.
“Many men seek virgins. Why is that? What is the biological rationale behind it?”
Sakashita-san continues,
“In modern society, about 40% of couples get divorced. A certain researcher investigated the relationship between the number of sexual partners a person has had, excluding their spouse, and the divorce rate. The result showed that the divorce rate drops to 5% if a virgin gets married.”
Uwaa…it genuinely piqued my curiosity.
However, how is this related to what we have been discussing?
“I’ll get straight to the conclusion since this could take a while.”
Seeing my bored expression, she seems a bit flustered.
Then, she continues,
“At the moment a woman has sexual intercourse, her value decreases by about 80% in the eyes of other men. In other words, what I’m trying to say is that you’re not strange, Ogura-kun. It’s perfectly natural for you to perceive Yua-san’s value as being reduced by about 80%. It’s a biological instinct!”
Ah, I see, she’s trying to cheer me up.
Come to think of it, she did mention that she might not say anything particularly clever but can say things that sound smart.
I didn’t expect her words to be taken so literally.
“Sorry, that was really hard to understand.”
“Ugh…”
Sakashita-san looks down, looking dejected.
Seeing her like that makes me laugh. I know it’s rude, but I just couldn’t help it.
While laughing, I think about what Sakashita-san words.
If her value decreases by 80%, it means it’s down to one-fifth.
I thought I like Yua hundreds of times more than anyone else.
If that’s really the case, I wouldn’t be this disappointed just because her value decreased by 80%.
My first love is only worth that much.
Thinking about it that way…no, no, this is even worse.
Ah, this is bad. I feel like crying again. Seriously, I’m so lame. I need to get over this quickly.
I’m being consoled by someone I’ve barely met.
“…doesn’t it piss you off, Ogura-kun?”
She sounds like she’s talking to herself.
“Eh?”
I wipe my tears away.
Then, Sakashita-san continues with a sulky expression on her face.
“I’ve seen the two of you together many times. I thought the two of you were a perfect match. And yet, being with someone else…isn’t that cheating?”
“…but we aren’t actually dating or anything like that.”
“It doesn’t matter!”
Sakashita-san raises her voice and leans closer to me.
I reflexively pull back.
I remain in that position for a while, frozen.
Silence falls on the library.
The music of the brass band playing can be faintly heard.
Suddenly,
“How about getting revenge?”
Her tone sounds chillingly deep.
“We should make her experience the feeling of having her mind destroyed.”
There’s no hint of joking in her tone.
Looking into her eyes, I feel like I might be drawn into them.
Revenge? You got to be kidding me.
I just had my heart broken.
There is no way I can do something like that.
“…how can I get my revenge on her?”
My thoughts and words are out of sync.
Sakashita Kaguya’s eerie smile reveals my true feelings.
The hatred that I have been brewing unconsciously deep inside me being drawn out.
It’s only when I put it into words that I realize—I am angry.
“That’s easy.”
Is she a devil or an angel?
She gently brings her mouth closer to my ear and whispers,
“Please let me sleep with you.”
