- The Reason Why I was Cheated on By My Girlfriend
- Chapter 34-35 - The Farce is Over/The Distance Between the Two of Us
The Farce is Over
“Ehehe, today was really fun.”
In Kaguya’s bedroom.
“I’m so glad we went to the publishing office. Talking face-to-face with people who love books is really enjoyable.”
She rests her chin on her study desk while looking at the printed photo.
“Also, the photo with Haruki-san…fufufu.”
She then uses a pen in her hand to black out a certain part of the photo.
“I regret hugging you at the Skytree…but I’m still happy.”
Kaguya has a debauched expression on her face.
“And Haruki-san…”
She says so with an innocent smile like a child.
“You’re really cruel.”
Kaguya looks at the photo.
It’s a photo of the three of them taken near the pond when they went to the Edo Castle Ruins.
“If that’s Haruki-san’s wish, then I’ll grant it…”
The photo shows Haruki, Kaguya and another person painted over in black.
“Yua-san, I feel so sorry for you.”
Despite her words, her voice is filled with excitement.
Because, this is the outcome she desired.
“Kaguya-chan.”
She tries to stifle her laughter.
“Are you serious?”
Kaguya has made up her mind.
She wants to send Yua to hell for hurting Haruki.
Unless something extraordinary happens in the future, she will not change her mind.
On the other hand, Yua has decided not to give up on Haruki.
Kaguya is very happy about this.
Because, Yua has chosen the path that will cause her the most suffering.
Kaguya knows that very well.
She understands how painful it is to see someone you love happily talking with someone else.
She still remembers the pain in her heart that nearly drove her mad.
“Maybe after Yua-san’s heart is truly broken, we can become real friends.”
Kaguya is struck by the thought.
“Oh, that’s good. That would be great.”
Kaguya has some criteria for friendship.
One of them is that they can share each other’s feelings.
It’s not that Kaguya hates Yua.
However, she just can’t forgive her for hurting Haruki.
Of course, she won’t hold a grudge forever.
If Kaguya succeeds in giving Yua an appropriate punishment, she is willing forget about this matter.
On the other hand, Yua will never forget about this matter.
Even if Haruki forgives and accepts Yua, Kaguya will never give up on trying to punish her.
“The farce is over.”
Kaguya feels a strange sense of satisfaction.
“Let’s break her heart as soon as possible.”
Kaguya has been avoiding people for a long time.
She has no friends, let alone anyone she can talk normally.
“Don’t worry, Haruki-san. I will heal and comfort you properly.”
It’s not that she hates people.
Kaguya does feel lonely too.
In fact, she wants to have friends.
She wants someone she can laugh with from her heart.
That’s why—
“After Haruki-san and I become a real couple, let’s become real friends, Yua-san.”
Kaguya says so with a dreamy expression on her face, gently caressing the blacked-out figure on the photo.
“It’s okay. I won’t do anything bad.”
Kaguya is not an aggressive person. While she is the type who is willing to do anything in order to achieve her goals, she will never choose actions that will hurt Haruki.
If Kaguya will never hurt Haruki, that means she will never attack Yua.
Doing so would only increase Haruki’s emotional burden.
What Kaguya is trying to do is very simple.
She just wants to flirt with Haruki.
She just wants to show how close their relationship is to Yua.
If Kaguya shows her true self to Yua, she wouldn’t be hurt.
In fact, she might even be motivated to ‘save Haruki from the evil woman’.
But what if Kaguya is a good person?
What if Kaguya is someone Yua considers as a ‘friend’?
Kaguya knows.
Just a few weeks ago, Yua thought of Kaguya as a good person.
Yua thought that Kaguya is someone worthy standing beside Haruki.
“Next, it’s your turn, Yua-san.”
Kaguya holds the photo carefully in both hands.
Then, with a smile on her face, she tears off the part with Yua’s picture in it.
“There will definitely not be a next time though.”
She crushes the part with Yua’s picture in it and throws it into the trash.
Then, she gazes happily at the ‘beautiful photo’ that is left in her hands.
“Ah, that’s right, tomorrow is Saturday.”
Kaguya picks up her smartphone.
Then she sends a message to Haruki.
The Distance Between the Two of Us
Haru’s POV
We’re in my room right now.
It’s just a little past eleven at night.
“Haru-kun, that is not good.”
Yua, who is sleeping in my bed again today, said so.
“Bringing a girl into your room and then making plans to date someone else is the worst.”
“I’m not bringing a girl into my room. It’s more like she came into my room on her own.”
Right after finishing the call with Kaguya,
I replied so with a sigh while sitting on the floor.
Yua is suffering from insomnia lately.
However, it seems that whenever she sleeps in my room, she can sleep soundly.
‘I want to sleep in Haru-kun’s room for a while.’
I couldn’t turn down Yua’s request, and that’s how we end up here.
“Kaguya-chan was surprisingly energetic, huh?”
Yua said so with a slightly sleepy voice.
“She’s cute, right?”
“Ahaha, Haru-kun, you always say that.”
On the other hand, I, who managed to sleep on the Shinkansen, am not feeling sleepy at all.
I feel like I can continue talking until late at night, but…
“You should get some sleep soon. You’re tired, aren’t you?”
“Eh, let’s talk a bit more.”
I give Yua a wry smile.
Lately, Yua has been unusually clingy.
(…she’s probably worried about various things.)
Yua probably hasn’t been able to sleep well lately.
Why?
…there’s no need to even think about it.
I can only imagine how hard it must be for her.
It’s so frustrating.
That’s why, at the very least, I’ll do what I can to help her.
If being next to me before she sleeps can make her feel safe, then I will stay by her side as much as she needs.
(…but if Kaguya considers this cheating, I won’t be able to deny it.)
If I were in the opposite position, I would be very upset as well.
But there is no way I can abandon Yua now…
(…I really am the worst.)
There is no choice but to hide this from Kaguya.
It’s really too late now, but I’ve come to understand a little why Yua kept the incident a secret.
(…maybe that’s why I should talk about it.)
However, more than that, I know that it’s though when someone you care about keeps secrets from you.
“Haru-kun.”
Yua suddenly calls me.
“What is it?”
“My shoulders are stiff.”
“What’s wrong?”
I can hear the sound of her moving.
“Give me a massage.”
…this person, seriously.
“Hurry up~”
“…haven’t you been a bit too clingy lately?”
“Well, Haru-kun has been so kind lately.”
“There’s a limit to this, you know?”
“I’m kidding, just kidding. Don’t get mad.”
She seems to really enjoy teasing me.
…well, it’s not necessarily a bad thing.
“It would be considered cheating, though.”
Her tone sounds ambiguous, I don’t know whether she is joking or serious.
I’m at a loss for words and simply stay silent.
An awkward silence.
As I stare blankly at the ceiling, Yua quietly continues,
“Kaguya-chan is really interesting, isn’t she?”
“…yeah, I guess so.”
I nod along.
Immediately, Yua continues,
“She’s pure, straightforward, and incredibly beautiful.”
“Yua, you know—”
“She’s the complete opposite of me.”
Yua said so before I could interrupt her words.
“I’ve told you many times,”
I try to speak calmly.
“Yua, you’re not dirty or anything.”
“No, that’s not it.”
Yua seems a bit off tonight.
In the past few days, she hasn’t been this self-deprecating.
—Yua suddenly grabs my shoulders.
It surprised me, and I instinctively stiffen.
I can hear the sound of her breathing.
“…do you know what I’m thinking right now?”
She whispers so into my ear.
“I want to make Haru-kun cheat on Kaguya-chan.”
I instinctively pull away from her and turn around.
In that moment, I thought that must be a joke. She must be teasing me.
However—
I take one look at Yua’s face and I know that she’s serious.
“I love you, Haru-kun.”
I’m left speechless.
“I’ve loved you for a long, long time.”
No, this is not right. Not now.
Why on an ordinary day like this…
“When I saw you and Kaguya-chan together, I felt like I might go crazy.”
“No, no, no, no.”
I somehow managed to say something.
“You were getting along with Kaguya…”
“That was just because we were in front of Haru-kun.”
Yua said so with a serious expression on her face.
“Because it seems like you want us to get along, Haru-kun.”
In the dimly lit room, her intense gaze pierces through me.
“I’m sorry.”
My mind can’t work properly right now.
Even so, I desperately try to find the right words.
“I don’t understand what you’re thinking, Yua.”
“I told you. I’m no longer pure.”
Yua gets out of bed while looking at me.
“The truth is, I tried to give up.”
She then crawls over towards me.
“Because I betrayed you, Haru-kun. Because Kaguya-chan is next to you. Because she is incredibly beautiful and I thought that you two are a perfect match.”
As she comes closer towards me, I back away.
However, my room isn’t very big.
Before I knew it, my back hits the wall and I have no way to escape.
“But I’m sorry. I just can’t give up my feelings towards you. It’s impossible.”
Yua is really close to me that my breath would reach her if I exhaled.
Yua looks directly into my eyes and says,
“It’s all your fault, Haru-kun. If you treat me so kindly, I won’t be able to supress these feelings, I won’t be able to hold myself back.”
Yua has a troubled smile on her face.
When I see that smile, I feel pain deep within my heart.
It’s like my heart is being tightly squeezed.
“Calm down.”
I suppress my feelings and grab Yua by her shoulders.
Then I push her away.
Yua looks like she’s about to cry.
I lower my gaze to avoid looking at her.
“How was my shoulder?”
Yua grabs my wrist and says,
“They’re soft, right?”
Then, Yua moves my hand.
“This part even softer.”
Realizing her intention, I pull my hand away quickly.
Then I stand up and look down at Yua.
(…why are you looking at me like that?)
Yua looks at me who is still confused by the situation, and says,
“Don’t forget. I love you, Haru-kun.”
I bite my lip.
Yua, with a fleeting smile on her face, continues.
“I want to be your number one, Haru-kun. Even if that means I have to take you away from Kaguya-chan.”
“Did you—”
I suddenly said so.
I’m surprised by how loud my voice came out.
I let out a long sigh.
Then I desperately try to calm myself down.
“Did you really not think that doing something like this would make me hate you?”
“I don’t think so.”
Yua’s smile doesn’t fade.
“Haru-kun can’t hate me.”
“……”
“See? I’m right.”
I turn my back to her and grab the doorknob.
“I told you. I’m no longer pure.”
As I’m about to leave the room.
She says so to my back as if she’s casting a curse.
“I love you, Haru-kun. I love you more than anything in this world.”
I stop in my tracks.
“…cool your head for a bit.”
