- Chapter 18 - Kaguya Sakashita’s Decision (1)
Kaguya Sakashita’s Decision (1)
Haru’s POV
Lunch Break. The same place as the day before yesterday.
Two desks are put together. I bring a chair and sit on the side.
Yua is on my right and Kaguya is on my left.
I explain the situation while observing Kaguya’s expression.
Of course, I keep the incident a secret. I only mentioned about Yua’s medical visits and that I will be accompanying her from now on.
Without the background, it sounds like a reasonable story.
But for Kaguya who knows about a bit more about what happened between me and Yua, I think she will have some questions about it.
Why take care of someone who betrayed you? Do you still have feelings for Yua? Are you calling me here to discuss about our breakup?
If I were in Kaguya’s position, those are the kinds of thoughts I would be having.
However, Kaguya’s reaction is completely different from what I expected.
“I understand.”
Kaguya said so.
She doesn’t ask anything further.
“Thank you for taking the time to explain this matter to me.”
I’m so surprised that my mouth is wide open.
“…you’re not going to ask anything?”
“The person I fell in love with is Haruki-san who cares about others.”
Kaguya says so with an untroubled smile on her face.
“Please take good care of Yua-san,”
Kaguya told me so.
I’m completely caught off guard. When I glance at Yua, she also has surprised look on her face.
“Yua-san.”
Kaguya called out to her.
“Could you be friends with me as well?”
“Eh, umm…”
Yua looks at me with a confused look on her face.
“Kaguya, you know…”
“What?”
…seriously? There isn’t a hint of hesitation in her voice. It’s almost frightening.
Kaguya is the one who suggested me to take my revenge on Yua, and I went along with it.
A few days after we carried out the plan, both me and Yua come to see her together, getting along as if nothing has happened.
It’s strange, isn’t it? You’d think she would be bothered by it.
There’s no way she feels nothing about it.
“Haruki-san.”
Kaguya calls out to me, breaking the silence as I search for words.
“I truly want to be friends with Yua-san, and I know about the relationship between the two of you. I don’t think there’s any reason for the two of you to grow distant just because one of you gets a boyfriend or girlfriend.”
Then she clasps her hands together, and with a bright smile on her face, she adds,
“That’s it! For the upcoming field trip, how about the three of us form a group?”
I feel my brain stops working.
However, Kaguya, still smiling, continues,
“Haruki-san, what do you think?””
“I’m fine with it, but…are you sure?”
“Of course! Yua-san, how about you?”
“Umm, well, is it really okay?”
“Yes!”
Kaguya puffs out her chest with a proud expression on her face.
“I don’t have any friends.”
It’s the same gesture and line I had seen just a few days ago.
Yua who is hearing it for the first time, looks utterly astonished.
“This is our chance to get closer with each other. We can’t miss it.”
Yua looks at me with eyes that says,
‘Seriously?’
Stop it. Don’t ask me about it.
I turn my gaze away, hoping to convey that message.
“…Sakashita-san, you’re quite an interesting person.”
Yua said so dumbfoundedly.
Kaguya’s eyes sparkles as if she’s deeply moved, covering her mouth with both hands.
“This is the first time a girl called me interesting.”
Kaguya looks genuinely happy. I can’t make sense of any of this anymore.
“Yua-san! Let’s get along from now on!”
“…yeah, let’s get along.”
Yua gives a troubled smile.
It’s been a long time since I saw Yua smile like that.
“Umm, I’m sorry to ask this so suddenly, but…”
Kaguya glances at me briefly before turning to Yua.
“Could you let me have five minutes alone with Haruki-san?”
With that one sentence, I understand everything.
“Yua, please.”
Yua nods and stands up from her seat.
“I’ll head back to the classroom first.”
“Sorry about this, and thank you.”
“No, I’m sorry for getting in the way of you two.”
“Please don’t say that you’re getting in the way.”
“Sorry, I’m just kidding. See you later.”
“Yes, see you.”
Yua glances at me for just a moment as she leaves.
But she doesn’t say anything and walks away without looking back.
Once the door closes, silence fills the room.
Just the two of us, alone as a couple.
In a normal situation, my heart would be racing with excitement, but right now, my heart is racing for a completely different reason.
I can’t think of any other reason for asking Yua to leave.
This is where the real conversation begins.
