The Two of Us Moving Forward (2)
Haru’s POV
I’ve made a reservation for consultation at this hospital in advance.
After arriving and taking care of the procedures, we are shown to a private room.
Yua has to undergo various tests.
Some of the tests provide results quickly, while some others take more time.
The tests last until the evening.
As expected from a specialized hospital, there’s the utmost consideration in the conversations with Yua.
There’s one positive result from the tests.
Although it’s limited to the results obtained so far, no physical abnormalities are found.
As for the drugs, we need to wait for the other tests results.
However, the doctor in charge says that the issue is ‘psychological’.
In other words, there seems to be abnormalities in her brain.
I’m told that continuous treatment and support from those around her are crucial, as she was unable to treat her depression on her own.
During the tests, there was a one-on-one talk with the doctor in charge.
It wasn’t just Yua, I also had to talk to the doctor in charge.
It seems that in cases like this, those who care for the victims can become distressed and may even develop mental issues themselves.
“I’m fine.”
I lied so. After that, the conversation ended without a hitch.
I thought that the doctor in charge would interrogate me or something like that, but there was nothing of the sort.
Finally, I’m given a referral to a local hospital.
Although there’s no information about it online, it turns out there are quite a few of them around.
From now on, Yua will need to make regular visits to the hospital.
She will need to take medication to help her get better.
This is a reality I have prepared for.
Even so, the weight of the news when delivered by the doctor was far greater than I had imagined.
I leave it to the hospital to contact the police.
I asked them to avoid contacting Yua directly and, if anything comes up, they should inform me first.
That should be all of it. There is nothing more to discuss regarding the hospital visit.
I take Yua, who looks a bit better than in the morning, and we board the Shinkansen to go home.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It’s an awkward time on a weekday.
The Shinkansen is almost empty.
“Haru-kun, thank you for today.”
Yua said so in a small voice.
“…I love you, Haru-kun.”
Her voice is trembling.
“The reason I didn’t tell you was because I didn’t want you to know. You’re not at fault. The one who is at fault is me, trying to pretend everything is fine and staying by your side…it’s strange, isn’t it? Even though I betrayed you so many times…but now, I’m saying such things…”
I search for words to say.
I want to say something thoughtful.
“…yeah, you’re the worst.”
No, that’s not what I want to say.
“However, the thing I can’t forgive the most is myself.”
I want to apologize to Yua.
I want to apologize for not realizing it all this time.
I want to apologize for all the terrible things I said to her yesterday.
“…I’m sorry.”
Those two words is all I can get out of me.
“…I’m sorry too.”
Yua’s reply is also just a short phrase.
However, there’s a lot of emotions packed into those words.
What is Yua thinking?
What is her true feeling?
I don’t know.
It feels like I’m walking in the dark.
“If you’re in trouble, just tell me.”
“…yeah.”
“I’ll definitely help you next time.”
“…yeah.”
I haven’t sorted out my feelings yet.
Perhaps, Yua and I will never return to how we were before.
But for now, I can’t bring it to an end.
It’s just a temporary feeling. It won’t last forever. Someday, we might both walk separate paths and never meet again. But even so…
“I’ll talk to Kaguya tomorrow.”
I take a deep breath and begin to discuss tomorrow’s plans.
“…what will you do?”
“What about it?”
“…if Sakashita-san says she doesn’t want you to take care of me, does that mean it’s over between us?”
“She won’t say that.”
I think it’s cowardly of me.
Because I’m somewhat smart, I understand things.
Kaguya won’t ignore Yua.
She definitely won’t tell me not to accompany Yua to her appointments, nor will she tell me to stop taking care of my childhood friend.
“Hey, Haru-kun.”
Yua calls out to me.
“Do you like Sakashita-san…?”
“I do.”
I answer clearly.
If I hesitate now, I won’t be able to forgive myself this time.
“Yua, when you were at your lowest, I couldn’t be by your side. But when I was at my lowest, Kaguya was there for me.”
“…I see.”
Yua’s voice trembles.
“Take a good care of her.”
“…of course.”
That’s the conclusion the two of us arrive at…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next day—
The three of us—myself, Yua, and Kaguya—decided to have a talk.
