When it’s time to have fun, have fun, that’s okay.
“Ao, while your student council work is important, you should take a break.”
In middle school, Yua, who was also in the student council, often worried about me.
Back then, I was desperate to meet my parents’ expectations. I wanted to be perfect so my father wouldn’t criticize me.
But maintaining that perfect image became impossible. The pain and the sense of losing something within myself—I still remember it vividly.
Since entering high school, I kept a low profile, with only a few friends. I avoided troublesome tasks as much as possible and only half-heartedly followed my father’s directives.
“Fifth in your grade again… Are you slacking off in your studies? Are you really studying when you say you are, or are you just playing around?”
Called into my father’s study to discuss my first-year, first-term grades, I sat across from him and endured his scolding.
“I’m not playing around… I’ve been studying with Kouta and Kana, seriously.”
His persistent questioning made my tone sharper. Although I sometimes lied, it was true that the three of us held study sessions. We had some light chats, but we were mostly focused on studying.
“Tatsuya-san, aren’t you being too harsh on Ao? He’s been working hard. It’s okay for him to have some fun with friends once in a while.”
“I’m saying this for Ao’s sake. If he’s truly diligent, I’ll allow him to have some leisure.”
For my sake? What exactly does my father expect from me? No matter what he says, I’ll pursue the path I’ve chosen.
I will follow the path I decided on, not one dictated by my parents.

“What a terrible dream…”
On the morning of the final day of the school trip, I woke up feeling awful. The last thing I wanted was to have a dream about being lectured by my father. Remembering unpleasant past events, I woke up earlier than usual.
Kouta and Rikuto were still asleep. There was some time before breakfast, and though I could have gone back to sleep, it didn’t seem likely.
I decided to get some fresh air, so I left the room and took the elevator down to the first floor.
Stepping outside the hotel entrance, I stretched deeply. The morning air was cool and slightly chilly.
I decided to forget about the dream and focus on the sightseeing I would do with Mizuki today. We had discussed and planned where we wanted to go several times.
The cold quickly drove me back inside, and as I lounged in the room, time flew by, and soon it was time for breakfast.
After breakfast, we had complete freedom until 1 PM when we needed to return to the hotel to check out. Our larger luggage was already being transported by truck, so we only had small bags with us.
“Ao, where are you going with Mizuki?”
Kouta, who was planning to go sightseeing with Kana, asked while checking to make sure he hadn’t forgotten anything.
“We’re planning to visit a street with various shops. What about you, Kouta?”
“We’re doing something similar. Alright, looks like I haven’t forgotten anything. By the way, where’s Rikuto?”
Rikuto, who hadn’t returned from the dining hall yet, still had his luggage in the room.
“Not sure, we came back pretty early from the dining hall, so he might still be there.”
“That could be it. Just in case, I’ll send him a message to remind him not to forget anything.”
Kouta, who was meeting Kana at the entrance downstairs, suggested we go down together.
“Sorry to keep you waiting, Mizuki.”
“Shall we go then?”
Kana hadn’t arrived yet, so Mizuki and I decided to leave the hotel first. We were told by the hotel staff that we could take a bus to our destination, so we boarded it.
Since it was a bus provided by the hotel, it was relatively empty. We sat next to each other, and the bus departed shortly after.
“I did some research. We can’t buy too many souvenirs since they’ll be cumbersome, but it looks like a fun place.”
“It does seem that way. Did you find any interesting places for lunch?”
“I’m not sure if it’s appropriate for lunch, but this gelato looks delicious.”
Mizuki showed me her phone screen. The image displayed a gelato that looked refreshing but cold.
“It does look tasty. But in winter, it might be a bit too cold to enjoy.”
“True, but since we’re here, I’d like to try it.”
After getting off the bus, we decided to visit a few different shops.
“This necklace is beautiful.”
Mizuki was captivated by a necklace with a blue glass pendant.
“It is beautiful… and probably expensive.”
“Yes, it is.”
I wanted to buy it for her, but most of the accessories in this store were priced above 20,000 yen, which was way out of my budget.
“Winter really isn’t the best time to eat gelato, is it?”
“Really? I’m the type who enjoys ice cream even in winter. I might actually eat it less during the summer.”
“That’s impressive. I don’t think I could do that.”
She said this while slowly savoring her gelato.
“Relaxation and peace…”
“Did you find something interesting?”
“No, it’s just this light blue bracelet. It symbolizes relaxation and peace, but since being with you already makes me feel relaxed, I thought I didn’t need it.”
Since when did I become a mascot for relaxation?
“It’s a beautiful color.”
“Yes, it is. What color would you choose, Ao-kun?”
“Let’s see…”
There were several colors, each with a specific wish: white for wealth and good fortune, blue for popularity, green for health, red for success, orange for financial and friendship luck, and pink for love and happiness.
“Considering the wishes, I’d go with pink. How about you, Mizuki?”
“I’d choose green. I want to stay healthy and worry-free. Shall we have lunch soon?”
“Yeah, sounds good.”
After leaving the store and having lunch, we headed to the airport. We could have stayed longer, but we wanted to arrive early to avoid any last-minute rush in case we got lost.
“Oh, you two are early.”
At the airport, we ran into Kana and Kouta. They were carrying bags from various stores, making me wonder just how much they had bought.
“You guys are early. There’s still plenty of time before the meeting.”
“We decided to explore the airport a bit. I haven’t taken any pictures with Mizuki yet, so how about we take some now?”
“Sure, that sounds good.”
Kana and Mizuki went off to take photos together.
“So, how was your date with Mizuki? Did you have fun?”
“Yeah, I had a great time.”
“That’s good to hear. You seem more relaxed now compared to when we first met. It’s good to see you enjoying yourself. Sometimes you just need to have fun and let go.”
“Yeah, you’re right…”
