- The Puppet Protagonist: Adriel's Life is Controlled by Everyone Around Him
- Chap 51 - My Worst and My Best
The creature they had been tasked to hunt had vanished without a trace, leaving both Seda and Elizabeth utterly perplexed. Despite hours of relentless searching, they found no trace or clue as to its whereabouts.
“Who is that thing? And why does it bear such a striking resemblance to me?” Elizabeth questioned, hoping for answers from Alexia. However, her inquiries fell on deaf ears as Alexia intentionally ignored her.
With no response forthcoming, Elizabeth let out an exasperated sigh and went ahead to retreat to her secluded hideaway. Anger coursed through her veins, threatening to consume her through and through.
“Argh! What is happening? Who is this creature and why does it mirror my own likeness?” she muttered, her frustration palpable in her voice.
“Crash!”
In the grip of her fury, Elizabeth projected her rage on the nearby objects. Plates, spoons — anything within reach became the target of her wrath.
“Crash!”
Yet another plate shattered into pieces.
“Calm down, Elizabeth-sama,” one of the zombie minions cautiously approached, trying their best to soothe her.
“Don’t tell me to calm down!” she snapped, her anger unabated.
“Crash!”
The plate narrowly missed the subordinate, who skillfully evaded its trajectory.
“Please, Elizabeth-sama, if you continue like this, it will be challenging for us to reason with you,” the subordinate pleaded.
“Crash!”
A drop of blood trickled down the subordinate’s forehead, a consequence of his failed attempt to dodge the airborne projectile this time.
“The next time you ask me to calm down, your life will hang in the balance,” Elizabeth’s voice turned ice-cold, leaving no doubt about her seriousness.
“Take a deep breath, little Liz…” a familiar voice echoed through the room, interrupting the tense atmosphere.
“No one calls me Liz, except Adriel,” Elizabeth retorted, resentment coloring her words.
“I know, I know…” the voice interrupted and a figure gradually emerged from out of the shadows.
Clad in sportswear similar to Elizabeth’s, the newcomer bore an uncanny resemblance to her, from clothing to piercing blue eyes. It was as if Elizabeth was face-to-face with an older version of herself.
“Who are you?” Elizabeth was poised herself to strike, her sword at the ready.
“I thought you were a lot smarter than that, little Liz. I’m you… or rather, a version of you from a few years ahead. But let’s not delve into the details,” her future self replied with a smug smirk on her face.
“I’ll kill you…” Elizabeth threatened as the grip on her sword tightened.
Her future self effortlessly deflected Elizabeth’s sword strike. “You’ll need years of training to even lay a finger on me, little Liz,” her future self taunted.
Undeterred, Elizabeth swung her sword again, but her future self gracefully evaded the attack.
“I already told you, if I wanted to kill you, I could have done it already,” her future self mockingly remarked.
“I’ll call Seda…” Elizabeth threatened, her voice trembling.
Before Elizabeth could reach for her phone, her future self stopped her with a sarcastic remark. “Go ahead… call her… be a good girl and seek help from an adult.”
Elizabeth huffed, her frustration mounting. “I’m not a child,” she growled.
“Of course not,” her future self said, shaking her head. “You’re a young adult, with all the anger and anxiety that comes with it.”
Elizabeth felt her face flush with anger. “I’m not angry!” she yelled.
“Of course not,” her future self said, sporting a mocking smile.
“So, what should I call you?” Elizabeth inquired curiously.
“Elida, a name derived from our beloved Adriel’s name. That’s what I’ll go by…” the newcomer replied calmly, seemingly unfazed by Elizabeth’s anger.
“You…” Elizabeth struggled to contain her fury. “All right, what do you want?”
“I’ve come to deliver a message. In a few days, an attempt will be made on Adriel’s life. Naturally, I’m here to help you prevent it. Until then, let’s be good friends…” Elida stated, extending her hand out as an offer of alliance.
