- Chap 50 - Flames of Frustration
Elizabeth’s gaze locked onto the figure before her, her heart pounding with a mixture of shock, anger, and possessive jealousy. It was as if she were looking into a distorted mirror, a twisted reflection of herself.
“You… I… but how?” Elizabeth’s voice trembled with disbelief. The sight of the anomaly, identical in appearance yet different in demeanor, sent waves of confusion and unease through her.
The anomaly responded with a detached nonchalance, her voice devoid of emotion. “I wasn’t as fortunate as you, Elizabeth.”
A surge of possessiveness surged within Elizabeth, overriding any semblance of reason. Her grip tightened around her enchanted dagger as a sinister determination settled in her eyes. The thought of anyone, even a duplicate of herself, posing a threat to Adriel ignited a fierce protectiveness within her.
“It matters not whether you are a clone or an imposter. If you intend to harm Adriel, I will eliminate you,” Elizabeth declared, her voice laced with venom and unwavering resolve. She braced herself for the impending clash, summoning her dark powers to enhance her speed and agility and casting the [speed boost] spell.
With a sudden burst of supernatural swiftness, Elizabeth launched herself towards the anomaly, her dagger aiming to strike true. However, to her astonishment, the anomaly effortlessly evaded her attack, her movements fluid and calculated.
A mocking sneer curled upon the lips of the anomaly, a cruel taunt laced within her words. “Oh, my dear Elizabeth, you are years behind me. Your attempts to harm me are futile.”
Elizabeth’s heart raced with a mix of frustration and confusion. How could the anomaly possess such agility and skill? It was as if she had surpassed her in every aspect. The revelation sent shivers down Elizabeth’s spine, awakening a newfound fear and unease within her.
Elizabeth used a fire spell [Spirit Fire].
Elizabeth’s eyes widened in disbelief as her fire spell had little effect on the anomaly. Her possessive nature fueled her determination to protect Adriel at all costs, and she refused to back down in the face of this apparent clone of herself.
“You think you’re so clever, don’t you?” The anomaly seethed, her voice laced with venomous jealousy. “But I know your every move, your every thought. If it means having Adriel all to myself, I’ll eliminate you without hesitation!”
The anomaly smirked, seemingly unfazed by Elizabeth’s threats. It had the upper hand and relished in the chaos it was causing.
This time it was the anomaly that attacked with [infernal breath].
With a swift motion, the anomaly retaliated with its own version of Infernal Breath, conjuring a torrent of scorching flames. The air around them grew hotter, and the oxygen began to dwindle, creating a suffocating atmosphere.
Elizabeth found herself caught off guard, momentarily taken aback by the intensity of the anomaly’s attack. The heat pressed against her skin, making it difficult to draw a breath. Panic surged through her veins as she struggled to counter the onslaught.
Drawing upon her determination and deep-seated love for Adriel, Elizabeth focused her thoughts. She knew she had to find a way to overcome this perilous situation. As the flames licked closer, she conjured a protective shield, encasing herself in a shimmering barrier of magical energy.
The shield deflected the brunt of the infernal breath, buying Elizabeth a precious moment to regroup. Her mind raced, searching for a counterstrategy to gain the upper hand against the anomaly.
In a flash of inspiration, she realized that she needed to exploit the anomaly’s overconfidence. If she believed it had already surpassed her in every way, she would use that arrogance against it.
Summoning her inner strength, Elizabeth channeled her power into a devastating combination. She weaved intricate patterns in the air, gathering flames from the surrounding environment. With a forceful gesture, she unleashed a fierce firestorm, aiming to engulf the anomaly in a relentless barrage of scorching heat.
But the anomaly, having anticipated Elizabeth’s move, swiftly evaded the firestorm with a burst of speed. It taunted her, reveling in its perceived superiority.
“Come on, Elizabeth! Is that the best you can do?” The anomaly taunted, its voice dripping with arrogance.
Elizabeth gritted her teeth, frustration mounting with each failed attempt to land a decisive blow. The anomaly’s evasiveness was infuriating, and she felt the weight of her own inadequacy pressing upon her. She had always prided herself on her mastery of fire magic, but now it seemed insufficient against this enigmatic adversary.
Gathering her composure, Elizabeth locked eyes with the anomaly, a fierce determination burning within her. “Why are you here? Where do you come from?” she demanded, her voice laced with a mixture of curiosity and desperation.
Elizabeth’s eyes blazed with determination as the anomaly taunted her. She refused to let her rival undermine her abilities and jeopardizes her hold over Adriel. With a deep breath, she focused her energy and conjured a powerful fire spell, “Inferno’s Embrace.
The flames surged forward, engulfing the surrounding area in an inferno. Elizabeth’s mastery over fire magic was formidable, and she unleashed her full potential, seeking to overwhelm the anomaly with her searing attacks. The intense heat radiated from her, creating a scorching battlefield.
But to her astonishment, the anomaly effortlessly evaded her onslaught. It moved with uncanny grace, its body contorting and weaving through the flames unscathed. Elizabeth’s heart pounded in her chest as she realized that the anomaly possessed a level of agility and anticipation that surpassed her own.
Frustration and anger surged within Elizabeth as her attacks continued to miss their mark. She had always prided herself on her skill with fire magic, but now she faced an opponent who matched her every move. Doubt crept into her mind as she struggled to find a weakness to exploit.
“Why won’t you answer me?” Elizabeth demanded, her voice laced with a mixture of desperation and rage. She yearned to understand the anomaly’s origins and uncover the truth behind its existence.
The anomaly smirked its expression a mirror image of Elizabeth’s own. “Do you truly think I would reveal my secrets to the likes of you? You, who can never truly possess Adriel’s heart,”
The words cut deep, striking at the core of Elizabeth’s insecurities. She was aware of her possessive nature and the darkness that lurked within her, but she couldn’t bear the thought of losing Adriel to another, especially to an entity that shared her own face.
As the battle raged on, Elizabeth’s mind raced. She needed a new strategy—a way to outwit the anomaly and turn the tide in her favor. She focused on her intelligence and cunning, utilizing her knowledge of fire magic to her advantage.
With a quick incantation, she unleashed a wave of intense heat, creating a blinding flash that momentarily disoriented the anomaly. Seizing the opportunity, she swiftly followed up with a powerful fireball, aiming directly at her doppelgänger.
But once again, the anomaly’s superior reflexes allowed it to evade the attack, twisting and maneuvering through the air with unnatural grace. Elizabeth gritted her teeth, realizing that her opponent’s speed and agility were beyond anything she had encountered before.
Determination burned brightly in her eyes as she refused to succumb to defeat. She would find a way to overcome this challenge, prove her worth, and protect her beloved Adriel. As the battle raged on, Elizabeth’s mind raced with possibilities, searching for a chink in the anomaly’s seemingly impenetrable armor.
Elizabeth unleashed a barrage of fiery spells, each one meticulously crafted and imbued with her profound understanding of fire magic. Yet, to her dismay, they all proved futile against the anomaly’s uncanny abilities. Frustration welled up within her, threatening to consume her resolve.
Refusing to admit defeat, Elizabeth decided to switch tactics, calling upon her affinity for ice magic. She conjured a freezing gust, attempting to encase the anomaly in ice. The air turned frosty as her spell took shape, but once again, the anomaly effortlessly evaded her assault.
Exhaustion began to take its toll on Elizabeth, her movements slowing as fatigue seeped into her bones. Meanwhile, the anomaly remained untouched, showing no signs of weariness. It was a disheartening realization that Elizabeth was being outmatched by this formidable foe.
Just as Elizabeth’s strength waned, a glimmer of hope appeared in the form of Seda. Sensing the escalating danger, Seda swiftly intervened, wielding a sword with precision and determination. Her strike connected with the anomaly’s outstretched hand, causing it to recoil in pain.
With the sudden disruption, the anomaly retreated, its presence lingering like a haunting threat. “Until next time, when there will be no one to save you,” it hissed, leaving behind a chilling warning.
