Chapter 80: Elective Class – Monk Course
“Why do I gotta wear something like this…?”
“I-I’m so embarrassed too… like, really embarrassed…”
The next day, around noon.
After we finished checking all the necessary paperwork, I called Dorotheia and Medina over to the church school.
And yeah, there was an obvious reason why both of them looked so confused and upset.
I’d made them put on maid outfits.
Lizette, who’s Alisha’s personal maid, comes and goes from the school as a staff member.
When I heard that, I figured these two—who basically had nothing to do—could help out as my personal servants and make school life a bit easier.
With Dorotheia… well, half of it was meant as punishment.
Doing small chores and stuff like that would be nothing but humiliation for her.
—Except she gets all happy whenever it’s something I tell her to do, so in the end it barely feels like punishment at all.
Medina, on the other hand, has the <Stealth> skill.
If any trouble pops up inside the school, having her nearby would definitely save my ass.
So I decided they’d stay in the servant dorms instead of a separate house, and help take care of me full-time.
“Master… this outfit’s so thick and hard to move in…”
“I’m not letting you wander around campus in basically underwear. Just deal with it.”
Dorotheia’s usual clothes barely cover her chest and crotch—pretty much just underwear.
No way a demon could walk around a church school that puts so much importance on holiness looking like that.
The maid outfit I prepared for Medina was the classic long-skirt kind.
But there wasn’t anything that fit Dorotheia’s build properly, so hers ended up being more like cosplay—kinda revealing.
Still, compared to her normal look, it was honestly way more decent. No exaggeration.
“So yeah, sorry about this… but can you two wash these clothes right away?”
I could use <Purification> to clean clothes, but it wipes out every single smell too.
I’d rather they come back smelling nice from fabric softener.
Even super convenient magic has the downside of taking away some of the normal everyday comforts.
“Medina. If Dorotheia starts acting weird, don’t hold back—just tell me.”
“Y-Yes!”
“Hmph. Like I’d do anything to a little brat like her… Unless Master says he’ll punish me for it, then maybe I would.”
“…Don’t say annoying shit like that. Fine, maybe I’ll just ignore you completely for a while.”
“N-Nooo! Please don’t do that! My body’s gonna go all messed up!”
If she doesn’t regularly take in essence she starts feeling sick—that’s just how Dorotheia is as a demon.
I can’t let anyone else feed her, so I’m the only one who can manage it.
“Also, school food’s free apparently. Eat whatever you want.”
“Okaaay~”
“Y-Yes, got it!”
So with that, I handed over my own clothes as their very first laundry job.
◇◇◇
“—Today we have a special guest instructor. Please welcome Erina Kline, who consistently held the top spot in grades during her time here.”
The next day. For my elective, I decided to try the monk course that focuses mostly on recovery magic.
Alisha and MyuMyu were taking it too, and then—to my surprise—Erina showed up as the special lecturer.
I got worried whether it was okay for an active adventurer to do this, but since she was actually standing up there on the platform, I guess it wasn’t a problem.
“Hello, everyone. I’m Erina Kline. I had to drop out of the church school for personal reasons, but while I was here my grades were always number one. Today I’d like to help you all as much as I can, so please feel free to ask anything you want, okay?”
Erina’s twenty this year. She said she’s been an adventurer for five years.
That means she wasn’t at the school very long. Still holding the top spot the whole time? She must’ve worked insanely hard.
She also mentioned working at the church, so she was balancing school and a job. Thinking about it like that makes it even more impressive.
“Hehe.”
Erina noticed me and gave a small, shy smile in my direction.
“Erina-sensei… she’s way too pretty…”
“Hey, she totally just looked over here, right!? Right at me!?”
She’s probably keeping the adventurer thing under wraps, but her popularity is insane.
The second she appeared, all the guys got super hyped.
“Okay then, we’ll be proceeding with today’s lesson together with Erina-sensei.”
The homeroom teacher’s voice rang out, and we moved away from the explanation area.
◇◇◇
We arrived at a wide room inside the school that looked like a treatment ward.
Dozens of treatment beds lined up in rows. And lying on top of them were… some kinda unfamiliar “things.”
“What the heck are those…”
“Nya! Those are training dolls! They’re special practice mannequins made from monster skin. They come pre-injured like that, so when you cast recovery magic it’s just like real practice!”
“Ohhh… they’ve got something that handy?”
I figured we’d just be helping out at the infirmary or something, but they even had dedicated dolls prepared. Gotta hand it to a church school.
“Okay, we’ll start practical training in groups now. Please split into the groups I call out.”
When they assigned us, since we were all in the special class, I ended up in the same group as Alisha and MyuMyu.
“Ugh, seriously… stuck with you. Just my luck.”
“A-Alisha-chan…”
“Don’t worry about it, MyuMyu. Just act normal.”
The second Alisha saw me she blatantly turned her face away.
Since I had no idea what was wrong, probably best not to poke at it.
Besides, she should already know Erina exists.
They probably never talked, but we all traveled together to the capital.
“Okay, we’ll take turns using recovery magic one at a time. Everyone else, please rate the recovery speed, area of effect, power… every aspect on a scale of one to ten, and give some advice at the end.”
Hmm, so that’s the format.
Problem is… I’ve basically been winging recovery magic this whole time…?
Like, make it glow, close the wound, done. Nothing but anxiety.
“U-Um… I-I’ll go first!”
MyuMyu mustered up her courage, raised her hand, and stepped up to the training doll.
“H-Here I go—<Heal>!”
The moment the light spread out, I couldn’t believe my eyes.
“…What the hell. That’s super cute.”
MyuMyu’s <Heal> looked completely different from any recovery magic I knew.
The light that formed at her hand was shaped like little paw pads.
The light itself was adorable. Total healing vibes.
“Shu-kun, you didn’t know? When you imagine a shape for the light in recovery magic, it makes the effect easier to get across.”
“For real…?”
“You seriously didn’t know? This is why country bumpkins are…”
Okay, I’ll admit the country bumpkin part, but Babaa and Amelia—did they ever do stuff like that…?
“A-All done! H-How was it…?”
“MyuMyu. The shape of the light is cute and that’s good. But you focused too much on one spot. Look—there’s still a wound left here, see?”
“Ah, you’re right… Thank you, Alisha-chan!”
She’s a princess—she could probably just coast through class—but her feedback was shockingly precise.
This perfectionism… must be in her blood.
“So? What about you. Give MyuMyu some advice.”
“…Me?”
Crap. I can’t think of a single thing.
I just blurt out whatever came to mind.
“Uh… well… level’s pretty important, right?”
“You… I’m gonna murder you.”
“S-Sorry!!”
Zero elegance from the princess.
The second those sharp eyes stabbed through me, I apologized on reflex.
I’ve fought my way here mostly with level violence. Swords I can handle, but recovery magic? Total amateur hour. I’ve got power and speed, sure, but technique? Zero clue.
“Then I’ll go next. Oh, and MyuMyu earlier gets a six.”
“Y-Yes!!”
…A six for that? Higher than I expected.
Wonder what score I’m gonna get.
“Here I go—<Heal>.”
Alisha held her hand over a different wound and released the magic.
The light gently took shape.
“Ohhh…”
“What’s with that face? Got a problem?”
“Nah, no problem.”
Alisha’s <Heal>… was a heart mark.
Super cute. Like, ridiculously cute.
She’s always fuming in front of me, but seeing this? Maybe she actually likes cute stuff.
Way more precise and faster than MyuMyu’s paw-pad heal.
“So? What’s my score?”
“Y-Yeah… personally I don’t really have any pointers… so—”
“Hold on.”
MyuMyu was about to give a full ten.
But I could see faint creases still left in the healed skin.
“What.”
“Lemme touch the wound for a sec.”
I pressed my fingertip lightly against the spot Alisha had healed.
When I pushed just a tiny bit harder—
“Ah…”
Neither Alisha nor MyuMyu had noticed.
It looked perfect on the surface, but the deeper layers of skin weren’t fully restored. In other words, not enough power.
“I didn’t push super hard or anything.”
“…I know that… …But thanks for pointing it out.”
“O-Oh… sure.”
Huh. She’s being surprisingly honest.
I thought for sure she’d snap at me, but she actually took it seriously.
Maybe she’s got some cute sides after all.
“If MyuMyu’s a six… I’d say seven?”
“…No. Five. MyuMyu’s was completely healed.”
“Alisha-chan…!”
“If you’re fine with that, whatever.”
Guess she doesn’t do favoritism.
She calls me a country bumpkin and stuff, but doesn’t seem to have any weird prejudice.
Alisha just keeps getting more mysterious.
“Okay, next. You’re up. Do it.”
“Yeah yeah.”
I flipped the training doll over.
A few untreated wounds were still left.
“Here goes—<Heal>.”
I thought I just let a light flow of mana through.
But—
“Kyaaah!?”
“Wh-What’s happening!?”
The whole doll got wrapped in light.
Before the light could even take shape like MyuMyu’s or Alisha’s, every single wound regenerated in an instant.
“—Yeah, about like that.”
Took three seconds.
MyuMyu took thirty seconds for one wound, Alisha fifteen.
I did the whole thing in three.
“Y-You… what did you just do!? Are you doping or something!?”
“I-I’ve never seen a <Heal> like that before!”
Doping? What’s that supposed to mean.
Come to think of it, something similar happened when Bulldog went huge.
The other students started murmuring and staring over here too.
Before I knew it, the vibe felt more like a Temple Knight course practical.
“Hehe… as expected of Shu-san.”
“Erina… sensei.”
“Oh? You’re actually calling me sensei?”
“Well, I can’t exactly disrespect you after what Seira said.”
“Indeed…”
Erina knows my level.
The problem is everyone else who doesn’t.
No way they’re not gonna freak out after seeing that kind of power.
“Y-You… what was that just now?”
“Just <Heal>.”
“N-No way! That’s… even the Saintess couldn’t…!”
Apparently she’s seen the Saintess use recovery magic before.
I heard high-level <Saint Heal> can restore multiple people, but I just did the same thing with basic magic.
If I said that out loud, Alisha would definitely lose it.
“Alisha-san. He’s a companion who traveled with me. …You can probably understand why he was in that group, right?”
“S-Sorry, I lost my composure… I-I get it, but…”
The second Erina spoke, Alisha switched to polite speech.
Easy to read. Or maybe just super obvious.
Anyway, there’s something that’s been bugging me since earlier.
I wonder if I can make the light take a shape too. Kinda curious.
“—So, Alisha. What’s my score?”
“! Zero!!”
“Why?!”
It wasn’t even consideration anymore—just pure personal grudge from Alisha.
