The Priest of Complete Dispel ~ Every Time I Save a Cursed Beautiful Girl with My Status Abnormal Cure Skill, For Some Reason Her Dependence on Me Maxes Out ~ - Chapter 70: Enrollment Procedure
Chapter 70: Enrollment Procedure
The next morning, we each decided to split up and do our own thing.
I headed to the church school with Iris.
The rest of the group was free to do whatever they wanted.
The royal capital, Einfilia, was several times bigger than Hares.
They said the population—including nobles—topped a hundred thousand.
By my old-world standards it wasn’t actually that huge, but here it was easily the most populated city in the whole country.
The royal castle towered in the center of the northern district, while the Grand Cathedral stood in the western district.
And the church school we were going to was apparently also in the west.
The moment we stepped into the western district, the first thing that jumped out at us was this massive building that looked straight-up like a castle. Morning sunlight hit the stained glass and bounced off it, making the whole thing sparkle.
According to Iris, that was called the Lumina Palace Grand Cathedral.
Most other cities’ cathedrals were named after some famous missionary, but the one in the capital was the exception.
“Palace” — yeah, like a royal palace. The name fit perfectly; the building carried both dignity and sacredness in equal measure.
And a little ways away from the Lumina Palace grounds, surrounded by high walls and fences, was the church school.
“…Man, this thing is huge.”
“Of course it is. The church school only exists here in the capital. Believers from all over the country come aiming for this place.”
“So if I transfer in… I’m probably gonna stick out like a sore thumb, huh?”
“Hmm… maybe? Normally people take the entrance exam, so transfers are pretty rare, I guess.”
“For real… By the way, are there other schools in this world besides the church school?”
“Of course. There are regular schools for general education, and magic universities exist too.”
Magic university…
Just hearing the name got me kinda excited. Part of me wished I could’ve checked that out instead.
But I’d already made up my mind. No point second-guessing now.
All I could do was hope nobody stared at me weird.
◇◇◇
“Hello—sorry to barge in, but could you please let the headmaster know? Please tell her that Iris Carnelia, a Saint candidate, has brought a letter from Cardinal Alaster Landrace.”
“I-Iris-sama!? The lady herself…!? I’ll connect you to the headmaster right away—please wait just a moment!”
The young woman in nun’s robes snapped to attention the second she saw Iris, her whole body stiffening in a panic.
Seeing how polite and flustered she got really drove home again just how high Iris’s status was.
About ten minutes later, we were shown into the headmaster’s office.
“—Come in.”
After the knock, a calm voice answered from inside.
Iris opened the door, and sure enough, it looked exactly like the headmaster’s office from my memories—a big desk, bookshelves, neatly arranged furniture filling the room.
“It’s been a while, Headmaster. I’m glad to see you’re doing well.”
“Yes, and you too, Iris-sama. You look much more dignified than the last time I saw you.”
They seemed to go way back; the two of them exchanged soft smiles.
The headmaster was an elderly woman with white hair tied back, and you could feel a gentle intelligence behind her glasses.
“So… what brings you here today? It seems to involve that young man over there.”
“You’re quick to pick up on things—thank you. Could you read this, please?”
Iris stepped forward and handed over the letter of recommendation from Cardinal Alaster.
The headmaster took it and quietly started reading.
“…Shu Mileister, is it?”
She murmured my name under her breath, then shifted her gaze from the paper to me.
“That golden rosary… Don’t tell me you’re…”
“Do you maybe know Mizette?”
Between my last name, the rosary, and how old the headmaster was, I figured she’d put it together.
“Hehe… What a nostalgic name. She was someone written into one page of my youth.”
“Yeah… She picked me up and raised me. Basically like a parent to me.”
“I thought so… The moment I saw your name, I knew. Not many people remember her these days.”
The headmaster narrowed her eyes like she was tracing back through distant memories.
Wait—did that violent old lady actually go to this school?
“Mizette was my classmate. After she officially became a Saint we drifted apart, but… thanks to her, every day was exciting.”
“Wow… Sounds like you were good friends.”
“Hehe, I’m not sure I’d say that. If something went against her beliefs, she solved it with her fists.”
“No way… That’s exactly the old lady I know…”
“Hahaha… She hasn’t changed at all, has she? I heard she disappeared after stepping down as Saint, so I’m relieved to know she’s doing well.”
So she really had been a violent old lady since way back.
Though to be fair, she just didn’t know how to hold back—she probably didn’t mean any real harm… I think.
“—Anyway, about the transfer. Since it’s a recommendation from His Eminence the Cardinal, there’s no reason to refuse.”
Looked like I was getting in without any trouble.
“However, the only open spot right now is in the special class.”
“Special class?”
“Yes. Normally students are sorted into classes A through F based on grades, but this is a group for a few… slightly unusual students who don’t fit those categories.”
So basically a collection of weirdos, huh.
I already had a bad feeling about this.
“Well, if that’s the only spot open, guess I don’t have a choice.”
“If your ability is recognized, you can move up to a higher class, but almost no one ever leaves the special class. Just keep that in mind.”
“Got it. No problem. I’m sure there’s a reason for it.”
“As expected from someone carrying the Mileister name. His Eminence spoke very highly of you. I’m looking forward to seeing what you’ll do here, Shu Mileister.”
Hey, you pig… what the hell did you write in that letter?
I had no idea what was in it, which only made me more nervous.
“Also, about the dormitory—you’ll be staying there, correct?”
“Yeah, no issue.”
For some reason Iris answered right away.
Apparently students here basically had to live in the dorms, and I’d already mentally prepared myself anyway.
“By the way, will you be bringing any servants?”
“…Servants?”
“Many noble students attend, so they’re allowed to bring attendants to take care of their daily needs. The servants have their own separate rooms, of course.”
Huh. The school was more relaxed than I expected. I’d pictured it being super strict, so this was kind of a relief.
Still, if I could use it—
“If I need one later, I’ll let you know.”
“Then we’ll leave it at that for now.”
With everything settled, we turned to leave.
“Oh, I almost forgot to introduce myself. I’m Amanda Reginant, headmaster of the church school. Looking forward to working with you, Shu Mileister.”
We gave a light bow to the gently smiling old woman and left the headmaster’s office.
Our next stop was to meet the current Saint—Iris was going to introduce us.
◇◇◇
From what I heard, the Pope and the Saint both had private rooms inside Lumina Palace and basically worked out of there.
Thinking back to the Grand Cathedral in Hares, yeah, the place had a ridiculous number of rooms. So it made sense that some people would live and work on-site.
“Let’s go in through this back entrance.”
Iris led the way, and instead of the main front, we headed toward a rear entrance supposedly reserved for high-ranking clergy.
The door had some kind of fingerprint-like authentication. When Iris placed her hand on it, a magical tool reacted and the door slid open quietly.
We started climbing a long staircase.
Partway up we could no longer see the inside of the cathedral, and the area felt completely cut off from where the regular believers came and went.
“Iris, is it really okay to just show up without an appointment?”
“No. I sent a letter while we were staying in Hares. So our visit should have been communicated already.”
“Oh, really?”
We’d been in that town for over a month.
Plenty of time for Iris to send a letter.
“Here we are—”
I had no idea how many floors we’d climbed. Felt like at least ten.
No elevator-like device in sight, and my legs were starting to feel heavy—when suddenly, right in front of us, a magic circle appeared, giving off a strange glow.
“Wait, is this…”
“—A teleportation circle, yes.”
The moment I heard that word, I sucked in a breath.
Since Dorotheia could use transfer magic, it wasn’t weird for a device like this to exist.
Iris and I stood together in the center of the circle.
In an instant our vision was swallowed by white light—and the next thing we saw was a quiet, otherworldly space.
Deep crimson carpet covered the entire floor.
Not a single person walked on it; only still air drifted around.
Iris started walking without hesitation. Ahead of us stood a pair of huge double doors.
The moment we reached them, a clear voice came from inside.
“—It’s Iris, isn’t it? Come in.”
The voice reached us through the door before we even knocked.
“Yes. Excuse me.”
Iris answered shortly and pushed both doors open with her hands.
