- Chapter 44- Naomi?
“Huh? Ryuuji-kun?”
Just as Ryuuji and Mika were about to enter the ramen shop, a feminine voice reached up to them, halting their steps naturally.
Following the source of the voice, they found a girl, not older than them standing with an unsure expression.
She was wearing a straw hat and a white floral refreshing summer dress. Her short dark green hair was adorned with her big round eyes of the same shade. The girl was beautiful at first glance undoubtedly.
Mika was just assessing the girl when suddenly Ryuuji approached her with a brimming smile making its way to his lips. Mika noted the fact.
“Naomi-san? It’s been a long.”
“I am good.. Ah! What are you so formal and all….”
In between her words, Naomi stepped forward and hugged Ryuuji as an old friend does. Mika noted that she is dangerously close to Ryuuji and he has a contented smile on his face while embracing the girl.
The two of them let go of each other soon after but for Mika, the duration seemed a little too extra to greet a friend.
“Ahm…and this is my friend and classmate Mika Hayama. And Mika, she is my friend from elementary school, Naomi Shinomiya.”
As Ryuuji stepped aside and introduces the two girls, Naomi bowed slightly and spoke in a sweet tone.
“Nice to meet you, Mika-san.”
“Likewise.”
Mika didn’t bother bowing and such as she replied with a flat and evident uninterest in continuing the conversation from this point.
Ryuuji noticed Mika’s strange reaction but he misinterpreted that it must be because of the heat of the sun shining above their heads.
“Why don’t we go inside first?”
“Yeah, sure.”
Naomi agreed with the proposal like she was waiting for Ryuuji to propose the idea. Mika noted this as well. This girl seems suspicious…
With that thought, the three of them entered the shop and found a seat right beside the entrance. There weren’t many customers but the singularities made most of the seats preoccupied.
The cool breeze of the air conditioner made Ryuuji refreshed as he led the ladies to the table. Mika and Naomi like it were natural, sat opposite to each other.
Since the restaurant had comfortable long sofas on either side of the table rather than chairs, the question arrived where Ryuuji would sit.
Mika was about to shift to her right and make space for Ryuuji when Naomi suddenly made the offer first as she made space faster than Mika.
“Come sit here, Ryuuji-kun~.”
For some reason, it seemed the girl intentionally stretched her voice to make it seem that she was whining. Mika didn’t forget to note that with block letters.
“You guys sit here. I will go and take the order.”
Ryuuji gestured toward the signboard hanging above the counter which stated ‘Self-Service. ‘
“What will you take, Naomi-san?”
“Umm… Miso will do. Thank you.”
Ryuuji nodded before he turned and started walking toward the counter when suddenly Naomi called for him in haste.
“Wait, Ryuuji-kun. You didn’t ask Mika-san.”
Ryuuji was about to say something when suddenly Mika interjected with the coldness in her voice taking another drop of degree and a chilling smile curling his lips.
“He knows what I like.”
Naomi blinked in perplexion since she didn’t know why Mika seemed so distant from her but she didn’t say it out loud.
Ryuuji also found it odd but decided to ask about it later as he resumed walking to the counter where several customers were already ordering their food.
The air between the two became awkward as Ryuuji walked away. The slow murmurs of the surrounding started to seem way too loud and the atmosphere, was a little bit heavy.
Naomi thought to check her phone to pass the time but she felt it would be rude to see the phone while the other party had her eyes focused on her.
Finally, with a deep sigh, Naomi decided to break the ice as she chose the topic that both of them would enjoy to chat about.
“So are you really just Ryuuji-kun’s friend or…”
Naomi could tell that the girl was one of a hella possessive for Ryuuji since the way Mika kept on staring at her while they hugged at the entrance was startling.
Mika wasn’t prepared for the question since Ryuuji already told her that Mika is just a classmate. Of course, Mika didn’t like being regarded just as a friend but how could she explain her relationship with Ryuuji?
Should she say that they are just friends who like to kiss each other and act like a lovey-dovey married couple? Or should she just say that Mika is one-sidedly pursuing him?
Both options might not be liked by Ryuuji so she played safe.
“Well not in a relationship but we aren’t just friends as well…”
Naomi felt Mika’s tone was a lot softer than before as she confessed about Ryuuji. This girl indeed has a thing for him.
Leaning on the sofa, Naomi sipped on the glass of water as she spoke in a casual remark but little did the green-haired girl thought the implications of her words.
“Ryuuji’s taste has been always the best I must say… ”
