- Chapter 27- Ex-boyfriend~2!
While on their way back, Mika mostly talked about varieties of things. What she didn’t notice was the dark expression on Ryuuji’s face.
He didn’t let it become evident through his tone, but inside, he was conflicted about things that would have shocked Mika.
Oblivious to all the banter Ryuuji was having to himself, they both entered his apartment before Mika went directly to the kitchen.
“It will take an hour or so, Ryuu-kun. Should I prepare something light until then?”
Tying an apron around her waist, Mika asked as she looked over her shoulder.
Ryuuji didn’t even turn toward her strangely as he went inside and muttered under his breath.
“No, I am good.”
Mika raised her brows since his voice seemed somewhat heavy. Wordlessly, she peeked inside and saw Ryuuji taking out his notebooks and unfolding the table.
She didn’t disturb him, thinking that he might need space for studying, and focused back on the kitchen.
While she took out the things from the shopping bag, she recalled the recipe she wanted to prepare.
Today she has decided to make steak with vegetables. She has seen her mother cooking it various times, but some days ago, Mika paid close attention since she was watching to learn.
Mika’s chopping skills weren’t something she would like to show off but cooking with steak; she didn’t have to be masterful.
The first thing she did after cutting the vegetables was to marinate the fresh meat with necessary spices and vinegar before she stored it in a bowl and kept it aside for now.
Taking a pan, Mika spread the olive oil before she dropped basil and some herbs as the vegetables went to get sautè.
While humming, she was preparing the food in a delighted mood when she heard Ryuuji’s footsteps forwarding toward the kitchen.
“Did you need something R-”
Before she could ask, Ryuuji interjected.
“You never told me.”
Mika continued to move the spatula without turning back as she heard him asking in the same tone he had adapted after returning home.
Despite knowing entirely well, what he meant through his words, Mika decided to remain passive.
“What I never told you, Ryuu-kun?”
“That you were in a relationship before?”
His answer came right away, which surprised her. But without letting her tone waver, she responded in the same oblivious way.
“But I thought you didn’t care, no?”
Even Mika didn’t show it at that time, but she was incredibly bothered by the fact that Ryuuji didn’t ask anything about her and Akiteru’s relationship.
She would surely feel irked if someone suddenly calls herself Ryuuji’s ex, yet Ryuuji put a complete blindfold on that matter.
Due to that frustration, Mika decided not to tell him everything directly and teased him as much as she could.
But little did she expect that Ryuuji wasn’t taking this lightly as Mika.
“You very well know how much I care.”
Mika’s back stiffened as her hand halted in an instant. The reason for the sudden reaction was that she felt hot breath on her nape, and judging by the range of the voice, Mika knew where Ryuuji was standing.
Suddenly before even she could recover, Mika saw his long hand extending toward the gas knobe and turning it off.
She wanted to complain since she didn’t like being interrupted while cooking, but her voice choked in her throat as she felt his warm hand encircling her waist and making her turn toward him.
She didn’t resist and followed his lead before Mika got face-to-face with Ryuuji.
Mika has spent a lot of time with Ryuuji but never has seen such a scary expression from him. There was no particular emotion adorning his face; just his gaze contained the coldness she wasn’t used to.
With his hand still holding her thin waist, Ryuuji leaned slightly forward as he whispered his words.
“Was he always so clingy back when you guys used to date?”
While glancing upward, Mika held the slab rigidly as she answered in a meek tone.
“No-not much. Just friendly hugs.”
Suddenly Ryuuji’s hold on Mika tightened as the gap in their bodies vanished. Mika’s clutch on the wooden slab became stiffer as she gazed at Ryuuji from this close.
With her heartbeat daring to leap out, she waited for his following words, which came with a bit of agitation.
“Wasn’t that a bit intimate to call a friendly hug?”
With her breathing ragged and little droplets forming at the corner of her eyes, Mika answered with her tone growing dimmer.
“I-I won’t do that again, I promise.”
