- Chapter 18- Home alone~2!
After the shocking non-consensual agreement between Ryuuji and Aoki over the phone, Ryuuji fell silent for a long minute.
Mika understood what her mother had spoken since her voice reached out of the speaker. She never had any idea that her mother would ask Ryuuji something like that, or Mika would never have let them talk in the first place.
Putting down the chopsticks, Mika blinked in embarrassment before she spoke in a low tone.
“It’s okay, Ryuu-kun. You can go home if you want. I will tell my mother some excuses.”
She did want to spend time with him, but it would be inappropriate and rude to make him stay without his consent. She might have to lie to her mother, but that would be better than forcing Ryuuji to stay over.
Not so long after, Ryuuji sighed before he picked up his chopsticks and spoke in a somewhat uncertain tone.
“If you are not uncomfortable being with me alone, then please let me stay here until Aunty doesn’t return.”
A smile bloomed on Mika’s face like the previous concern was nothing but all facade, as she nodded and replied in a cheery tone.
“Of course, you are welcome to stay as long as you want, Ryuu-kun. Ah, please wait. I will bring rice for you.”
Saying so, Mika stood up and took Ryuuji’s bowl to refill it.
Ryuuji stared at the cheerful front of the same girl who used to say, ‘How long do you plan to stay, huh? ‘with a complicated expression.
He didn’t want to think about such things all the time but couldn’t help when everything happening now was almost contrary to how it used to be.
If Mika had the same way she is now, who knows how deeply Ryuuji would have dwelled in her love?
‘Well, everything goes for good….’
With such thoughts, both of them returned to eating in silence, but this time, Mika dared to utter some small conversations related to school and stuff in between.
“How is the soccer going, Ryuu-kun? I have never seen you play, but people say you are good at it.”
Ryuuji knows how Mika faintly likes sports; that’s why other than helping in student council work as a part-time member, she generally returns home after the final bell.
For her to ask him so suddenly made him perplexed as he answered in an absent tone.
“Well, I am not that good. Just doing what I can.”
“Is that so? Well, I wonder if me cheering Ryu-kun would help him improve his game?”
With her brows going high, Mika supported her chin on her palm as she asked in a teasing tone, much to Ryuuji’s fluster.
His eyes went round for a moment before he figured out how meek she had become recently.
“With you or without you, my game would be the same.”
“Haha~ Talk how much nonsense you like, Ryuu-kun. I know you will be happy if I cheer for you~”
This time Ryuuji didn’t respond. Lifting the bowl, he started feeding his mouth with large servings to keep his disobedient blushes hidden.
The dinner went in a much lighter way for Mika as she occasionally teased Ryuuji, and the latter took all the damage without uttering anything in the counter.
What he sought was chance—a chance to get back at this mischievous self of Mika. And coincidently, the following event gave him that opportunity.
…
It was still raining outside. If anything changed was its ferocity. The temperature had gotten a lot cooler, and the natural light outside wholly blacked out.
At nearly seven, Ryuuji and Mika decided to watch some TV to kill time. Mika directed him to the couch, and after handing him the remote, she walked back to the kitchen.
“Please take your pick. I am going to bring something for us to drink. Would Barley do?”
Ryuuji didn’t think much before nodding as he got comfortable on the couch before he heard Mika’s step getting far away.
A glint of evilness flashed in his eyes before he picked up the remote and scrolled down movies in a specific genre.
He didn’t have to go too far to reach the destination. Seeing Mika return, he played the movie before taking the glass from the tray.
“Which movie is it?”
Mika also got cozy beside Ryuuji, albeit a little distant, as she asked before sipping her drink.
“It.”
“Oh, what genre is it?”
With a smirk that got hidden due to the dim lighting, Ryuuji replied in an uncertain tone.
“Don’t know. Probably comedy.”
Mika nodded with a smile, as she liked comedy movies very much.
But little did she know how refreshing this comedy movie would be…
