- Chapter 15- One-sided lover.
“Fuck! How did I miss that pass!”
Kazuya cursed himself for the fifth time as he, along with his friend, Ryuuji, made his way out of the field. There were other students, too, leaving the area in groups as most of them waved at the duo.
The sky has turned slightly dark in the afternoon, signifying that it might rain anytime soon; that’s why the soccer practice was called off at halftime today.
“It’s okay, dude. It gets pretty hectic sometimes on the offense, and last time, I consecutively missed three passes. Seeing you like this makes me feel whether I should have been more guilty about my mistakes.”
Ryuuji tried to boost the disheartened morale of his friend, which, in turn, shifted to self-realization as Ryuuji rounded his eyes while staring at nothing.
“It’s okay, man. Next time, we’ll rock.”
Now it was time for Kazuya to pat his friend’s shoulder and boost his spirit, instantly forgetting about his previous reason for regret.
It was remarkable how their emotions fluctuated as a new topic was brought up by Kazuya like the previous grief was nothing but an act.
“So, did you have a chat with Hayama-san after morning? You know, during lunch, it seemed she wanted to stop you. You sure okay how are things going?”
Halting near the vending machine, Kazuya picked an energy drink for both of them as he asked.
Ryuuji didn’t reply for several seconds as he was somewhat stunned to hear about Mika. But soon, his expression shifted back to normal as he calmed himself before answering.
“I don’t know…what am I supposed to do.”
After picking up the drinks, Kazuya stood up before handing one to Ryuuji as he spoke what seemed right from his perspective.
“If you ask me, I will say you should give her another chance.”
Strangely, Kazuya tapped the button for orange juice despite having a drink for himself already.
With a smirk, Ryuuji spoke with his eyes narrowed at his friend.
“I focus on Mika-san, so my mind doesn’t wander on ‘someone’ else, right?”
Kazuya grinned before taking the orange juice out of the dispenser.
“Seriously, dude? You always go out of your way to give her a drink and also have helped in many ways without letting her be aware that it’s you. I can’t understand what you think.”
Ryuuji sighed in defeat as seeing his friend’s actions toward his crush seemed commendable at the same time, slightly wasted.
With his looks, Kazuya can get almost any girl he wants; coupled with his helpful nature, he might be the perfect guy a girl would like to date. Yet, his heart has been stuck with a girl whom he doesn’t even dare to talk to with a straight face.
“You know I just can’t… I prefer seeing her smile from afar rather than getting rejected by taking this step. Anyways, I will be going.”
“Hmm. Bye.”
With that, Kazuya left the place as Ryuuji thought of the girl Kazuya had been crushing over for more than a year but hadn’t made much progress.
An idea popped into his mind as he spoke under his breath.
“I think it’s time for me to play the wingman, huh…”
_____________//
Since it was already over an hour from dismissal, the school was utterly devoid of the populace.
Ryuuji strolled through the corridors while thinking about various stuff, but most of them were related to a single person.
He doesn’t hate the fact that he couldn’t get Mika out of his thoughts. He was aware that it would take him time to get over her, but the problem was the approach he was feeling from the other side.
If things really go as it is, Ryuuji fears that he might fall back to zero all over again.
‘Woof! I have to do something about myself…’
Shaking his mind to get rid of his thoughts, Ryuuji entered inside the classroom only to get his mind numb for several seconds.
The class was expectedly empty, but there was a single desk still occupied by a lovely girl with peculiar eyes who could draw anyone’s attention.
Mika’s eyes fluttered from the book she was reading to the entrance as she instantly rose from her seat.
“Oh, Ryuu-kun. You are back. I was waiting for you.”
**Ba*Dumb**
One blow after another.
Ryuuji was already flabbergasted after seeing Mika in the classroom unexpectedly, and now when she said she was waiting for him….it took his breath away.
For several seconds neither of them spoke before Ryuuji finally got out of his stupor and moved in a rush toward his desk.
“You shouldn’t have waited for me, Mika-san.”
“Why tho? You always waited for me if I got caught up in council work.”
Mika replied in a cheerful tone on which Ryuuji’s hand, which was arranging his books, halted all of a sudden as he turned his head toward the girl.
With a wry smile, he spoke in an unsure tone.
“I used to various ‘other’ things too. Are you planning to do all of them?”
Mika didn’t even halt for more than a second before her reply came, much to Ryuuji’s astonishment.
“Hmm~ Well, who knows, maybe I might do something more than that.”
Hearing such a carefree yet confident answer, Ryuuji’s face turned slightly red as he picked up his bag and dashed away from the dangerous woman.
“Ah, Ryuu-kun! Don’t leave me alone.”
Mika also chased after him with a big grin, helplessly spreading across her lips as she enjoyed what she saw.
‘Blushing, Ryuu looks adorable… ‘
