- Chapter 14- Aya\'s trouble!
I blinked perplexedly at Aya, who suddenly came and dragged Mika-san out of the class while mumbling something I didn’t understand.
I mean, looking at Mika-san’s expression, she seemed equally baffled, so Aya’s behavior seemed entirely out of the blue.
“What’s up with her?”
A hand draped over my shoulder as a familiar voice reached from my left. I didn’t have to turn toward the person to know who he was.
“Why don’t you ask her? Oh, I forgot you get scared to ask anything from her.”
Throwing his arm away, I heard a clear ‘Bastard’ as a greeting so early in the morning from my friend Kazuya.
He’s a tall and broad brown-haired guy who, with looks, could become a male idol any day he wants. Coupled with his soccer skills and top grades, he’s the son every mother would wish for as their child and a man every woman would want as their boyfriend.
No kidding, he’s insanely popular to the point girls come to confess to him from other schools too, yet he always turns them down.
Well, I do know why he has never accepted someone’s proposal, which is why he hangs out with me.
Walking back to my desk, I greeted my classmates as I saw Kazuya following me to his desk, which was behind Mika-san.
“Why didn’t you come yesterday?”
I ask him while arranging my seat and hooking my bag to the side of the desk.
“I got summer cold. Ah, that reminds me. I heard you gave up on Hayama-san?”
My movements halted as I stared blankly to my front for several seconds. Concluding that I didn’t hear him wrong, I turned toward the person with a slightly narrowed gaze.
“Did Aya tell you?”
I asked since she was the only person I told about my decision related to Mika-san. But little did I think, the matter has spread in the air like wildfire.
“No, why would she? The rumors made me aware of my brother’s sudden change in plans.”
Keeping the exaggeration aside, I was worried about the ‘Rumor’ part. I am by no means popular, but Mika-san is, which further made me anxious about Kazuya’s words.
“Rumors? Tell me.”
I turned toward him as I saw indeed some people glancing at my side, or maybe I became self-conscious all of a sudden.
I don’t usually care about others, but I didn’t wanted Mika-san to get into more trouble because of me.
“Well, I heard you suddenly started acting strange and didn’t eat lunch with Hayama-san. And there was that too. That fatty Oogwa said that; yesterday, Hayama-san and Aya had a small chilly conversation.”
My eyes blinked, not because of the first part but the conversation between Aya and Mika-san.
I wasn’t in the classroom yesterday, but after I returned, I didn’t think anything was wrong between them. And even at dinner time, Mika-san didn’t tell me about it.
‘Well, she doesn’t tell me anything about herself… ‘
Sighing, I concluded that it was futile to think about it, so after shifting myself back to the desk, I took out a book to read.
“Wait….aren’t you curious that Aya’s sudden dragging out of Hayama-san must be because of that cold conversation?”
I heard Kazuya’s voice, and I, indeed, slightly wanted to know what happened between the two, but in the end, I decided not to meddle in her life needlessly.
It might be a little complicated, but I have to take this step for my own good as well as hers.
________________…
On the other side, after Ayama pulled Mika out of the class, she dragged her through the corridor and halted only after reaching the staircase which leads to the rooftop.
Mika also was expecting to clear out some of the things and also apologize for the way she talked yesterday, so she didn’t resist Ayama and let herself get pulled.
Walking to and fro at the same spot for a couple of seconds, Ayama finally broke the ice of what had been boiling inside her since the last day.
“You clearly agreed when I said Ryuu has given up on you. Then why did you say Ryuu would never get over you?”
Even though she spoke in a low voice, it was inevitable that Aya was quite flustered about this whole scenario which had kept her awake the entire night.
Mika sighed before she stepped forward and held Aya’s hand in hers, and spoke in a soothing tone.
“I am sorry for how I behaved yesterday, Aya-chan. And about Ryuu-kun. Then he did say he was giving up on pursuing me, but now I am going to chase after him. That’s why I said something in the spur yesterday.”
Aya, hearing Mika’s voice, became calmer as she breathed heavily while registering what she had just heard.
Upglancing at her friend, she asked something which was making her heart numb for some apparent reason.
“Do you love Ryuu, now?”
Aya knew if Mika decided to be with Ryuuji, there wouldn’t be any place for her to go. There won’t be a chance for Aya to become a couple with Ryuu.
All her patience and the time she had waited would have been ruined if Mika had nodded to her question.
But…
“No, I don’t. I do like him, but whether it’s this feeling called love then, I am not sure what feeling I harbor toward him. So until I don’t find my answers and attain forgiveness for my actions, I won’t stop involving myself with Ryuu-kun.”
There wasn’t a single fabrication in Mika’s words. She knew Aya had feelings for Ryuuji, so Mika wanted her to know everything truthfully.
This might bring bitterness in their relationship, but Mika has resolved herself now, which no one could shatter.
Hearing Mika loud and clear, Ayama stayed silent for several seconds, with a dark expression covering her face.
Mika patiently waited at her spot when suddenly Aya looked up with moisture filling her eyes as she spoke in a much lighter tone.
“Then you will have my support.”
