- Chapter 12- I hope we can get along!
“Why are you here, Mika-san?”
In a thinly lighted small space which, by looks, seemed to be a kitchen stood two young teenagers with varying expressions on their faces.
The boy fixed his gaze on the girl as he asked in a shallow voice, seemingly challenging to determine his current feelings.
On the other side, the beautiful female was serving rice in two bowls while trying to keep a smiling face upfront despite being embarrassed to intrude like this once again today.
“To eat dinner with my friend.”
Ryuuji was remarkably familiar with Mika’s thought process, and he could clearly see how credible her words were.
In a little heavier voice, Ryuuji raised his voice as his gaze grew sharper.
“Why are you doing this, Mika-san? Is this pity I am seeing from you?”
Mika didn’t know many things about Ryuuji but currently hearing his tone, and from what she had seen until now, she was certain that Ryuuji didn’t seem fond of being pitied.
Sighing, she halted her movements as she turned off the knob she was using to heat up the soup before turning herself to face the guy.
“Previously, you confidently used to say that you know me better than anyone, right? Look at my eyes and tell me whether I am being sympathetic here?”
Ryuuji’s gaze didn’t shift from her charming eyes, which never fails to exhilarate his heart rate. Those ruby-shade orbs which had stuck into his heartstring makes him fall for her all over again.
Retreating his gaze, he concluded that, indeed, Mika wasn’t consoling him at all. It’s more like she seemed more on the annoyed side for some reason.
“Even if I apologize right now, and you say that you forgive me….that won’t subdue this eerie feeling of mine. To compensate for what I have done, I need this dinner time of yours. Just this single meal of the day, I want us to share. I won’t trouble you any other time. I promise, okay?”
Mika tilted her head as she inched forward and held his hand in between her persuasion. She did this on impulse, just like Ryuuji used to do when he requested something from Mika.
For a long moment, both of them stayed silent. Looking into each other eyes while transmitting a slight warmth through mere touch, the young couple shared a space that seemed impossible for a third person to intrude.
**PSSSSSS**
Suddenly the blow of the teapot brought them out of their stupor, and they hurriedly snatched their hands back and head turned in the opposite direction.
From a third-person perspective, the scene of the young teenagers blushing profoundly was incredibly adorable. Sadly there was no one to enjoy the sight.

After some minutes, Mika brought dinner for both while Ryuuji arranged his books and set the table in the center of the room.
The air condition was on full blow, yet the heat of peak summer was making him sweat quite a lot today. Or maybe he was anxious about something?
Today’s dinner was fried fish which Mika heated on the pan, along with white rice and miso soup. The add-on salad was prepared by Ryuuji earlier.
It was fortunate that Mika’s mother has been so generous until now, since Ryuuji doesn’t really have much knowledge of cooking.
Even before, he generally relied on ramen, which had put him in lousy health. But now, his physique was more robust with the sufficient varieties of dishes he had consumed these past few months.
“Itadakimasu.”
“Thanks for the meal.”
Both of them prayed before digging in.
Mika’s voice was a little dimmer and meek compared to her normal pitch due to the incident in the kitchen.
Ryuuji, despite maintaining a calm front, was feeling quite complicated inside. How would he not think this way? The girl he loved and chased for the first time in his life was giving him attention but only after he decided to give up on her.
Indeed, he was conflicted.
But at the moment, he just wants to focus on the food and end this session as soon as possible—all he wanted just to eat and don’t engage in any kind of conversation at all.
But…
“Hey, Ryuu-kun. Have you planned anything for the summer break?”
Since it was already June, there would be a holiday for almost one month before the midterms. A period where students enjoy most in their whole year, by going to the pool and festivals.
In the past, Ryuuji didn’t have much of mentionable summer breaks, and this year too.
“I would be studying for exams.”
He answered truthfully. Despite having a lot of friends with whom he could use his days to enjoy himself while maintaining the study hours, Ryuuji had planned his summer differently this time.
“Hmmm…well, I also don’t have plans, then I might bother you once in a while…only if you don’t mind.”
Ryuuji didn’t answer her and continued eating dinner. Mika grinned slightly upon seeing the reaction, which from her perspective told, Ryuuji was somewhat happy to hear her words.
Previously she had some plans for the summer, but now everything was scrapped up as a new goal was prepared for the holidays.
___________…
After dinner was finished nearly at half past seven, Mika packed the container, which Ryuuji insisted on washing, before they both arrived at the entrance.
Standing in the apartment corridor, Mika was about to bid farewell when suddenly Ryuuji took out something from his pocket before extending it toward her.
“Please give it to Kaa-I mean aunty.”
“You never fumbled on calling me Mika-san, yet my mother seemed to be more used to your tongue.”
Mika pouted slightly in the complaint as Ryuuji suddenly changed the way of calling her, and he sounds so natural that it seemed he never used to call her intimately.
But little did she know, Ryuuji had to think always before speaking her name, so he doesn’t end up calling her Miku.
“What is this? A thank you note?”
Mika unfolded the paper, and after reading the handwritten content, she smiled warmly at how considerate Ryuuji was.
Ryuuji didn’t respond as in the first place; he didn’t think Mika would get interested in the note to the point she would read it in front of him.
“Well, if you are feeling indebted, then how about teaching me sometimes? I recently realized how well you are in maths, unlike me.”
“Hmm…I will think about it. Now go; it’s already late.”
Since their houses were practically twenty steps apart, Ryuuji didn’t feel the necessity to drop her off at this hour.
Mika nodded before she hugged the container and turned on her heel before slowly walking away.
Ryuuji was about to shut the door when suddenly Mika ran back and, after standing at her previous spot spouted something entirely out of the blue.
“Y’know. What I said this afternoon…I am serious about it, so I hope we can get along in the future too. Bye~.”
