Chapter 28: What’s Next
“…Phew, I’m tired.”
Today, as if to forget about all the busyness until now, I played games all morning. Shiori is really good at it, and she often streams FPS games. As for me…well, I can’t play as well as her, not even as well as an average player…well, of course. Because I’ve never played before.
“…Ah~”
Man, games are tiring. Though I played for about three hours straight, talking to each other through voice chat while we played. Shiori’s current high-spec PC is fine, but my laptop barely managed to keep up.
“Asahi, good job.”
“Yeah…good job, Shiori.”
Understanding my fatigue, she chuckled. While it was a fun gaming session, the unfamiliarity made it quite exhausting, and next to Shiori, who seemed to be genuinely enjoying herself, I was worn out.
“Shiori, let me lean on you.”
“Sure.”
She opened her arms, and I dove into her chest. Feeling the soft warmth on my face, I knew I was more tired than usual.
“Asahi is so cute.”
“…I’m really exhausted today.”
“Should I apologize?”
“No, you don’t have to. Actually, I’m just happy to be able to play games with you, Shiori, or should I say Iroha Tokizami?”
“I had a lot of fun because I was playing with you, Asahi, like always.”
Still…why is it that hugging a woman and feeling her warmth gives such a sense of security? Once you experience this comfort, you can’t give it up…I understand why people become emotionally unstable when they lose their lovers.
“By the way,”
“Yeah?”
“Are you using the card properly?”
“………”
I couldn’t nod at her question. The card Shiori mentioned is a credit card she made and gave to me. To be honest…I don’t think I’ll ever use it. Shiori said sharing is natural since we’ll be together, but I think it’s something that should be handled properly.
“It’s just a bit difficult emotionally…”
“Don’t worry so much about it.”
Still, I thought, I’m glad Shiori didn’t end up with a reckless spender, the type you hear about in horror stories. The thought of such a scenario makes my skin crawl, but honestly, Shiori is the kind of person who could ruin a man.
“Well, let’s get used to it gradually.”
“…Okay.”
Somehow, I feel like one day she’ll ask me in a worried state why I’m not using the card…I wonder how long I can hold out without using it…it’s an overly luxurious concern.
“Hey, Asahi,”
“Yeah?”
“I’m looking forward to the day I can tell the story of something like this happening someday.”
“Meaning?”
“Well, it probably won’t happen, but…I could announce on a stream that I’m getting married to the person who’s always supported me.”
“…That would definitely cause a stir.”
It would definitely cause a stir! Of course, she was just saying it, but she knew it would cause an uproar.
“Well, my viewers support Iroha Tokizami, not Yame Shiori…so I can’t mix that with other things. If I were to do it, it would be when I decide to retire as a VTuber, during my last stream.”
“…Oh.”
That wouldn’t cause a stir…no, it definitely would.
“In this world, there’s reincarnation, right?”
“Yeah.”
“Do you think it doesn’t apply to us?”
“Well, my voice is distinctive, and if I tried to change it, I’d have to force it higher…I don’t think reincarnation is bad, but I don’t think I could match the numbers Iroha Tokizami has.”
That’s true…reincarnation is something I’ve seen plenty of. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t…but fans who gather around that person will probably follow them. In that sense, Shiori would likely have many fans follow her, but it seems she won’t stream if she quits being Iroha Tokizami.
“Well, despite everything, I don’t plan to quit for a while. I’ve built this up since being hired, and I want to stay with my important fans for longer.”
“…That’s touching.”
“Right? I hope everyone feels the same.”
Hearing this kind of talk is only possible because I’m by her side. Then, feeling a bit more uplifted, Shiori started talking excitedly about her future plans. What she wants to do, what she dreams of…though it seems difficult, with her position, it might be possible.
“If it’s you, Shiori, you can do it…you definitely can.”
“Will you watch over me?”
“Of course. Actually, being able to see it up close is a privilege.”
So please, let me continue to watch over you. I’m studying for that…I’ve probably already achieved about seventy percent of what will be needed in the future. Compared to my previous company, I’ve realized how important motivation is.
“…Phew!”
“Eek! Stop that! Don’t blow so hard between my breasts!”
…But recently, Shiori has started shifting towards pressing her sensuality on me, which makes me a bit anxious.

“…Oh, let’s go with this one.”
It’s almost 5 PM. I’m at a cake shop, having come here on the way to pick up Shiori from her office. I don’t usually buy things like this, but I thought it would be nice to relax with some sweets together for a change.
“Well, we do eat ice cream quite a bit, though.”
Recently, Shiori has been eating ice cream almost every night. She realized that sweet things help when her mind gets tired from streaming. She’s worried about gaining weight, though, so she mentioned wanting to cut back to once every three days.
“Thank you very much!”
I bought two strawberry shortcakes and left the shop. As I wandered around waiting for Shiori to come out, I found myself glancing around. I was looking to see if there were any suspicious people.
“That guy…what happened to him, anyway?”
I was thinking about the guy who tried to attack Shiori and ended up stabbing me. We don’t know what happened to him after he was arrested, and Shiori and I try not to think about it. We consider it something not worth remembering, a person who tried to bring misfortune to us. Still, Shiori occasionally shivers when she remembers, and seeing her like that always makes me furious at that guy.
“Oh, it’s over.”
People started coming out of the office. Watching women around my age or a bit younger or older, it felt strange knowing who they were. Shiori came out a bit later with Asakura and another woman we recently met, Tojo, who lives in the same apartment building as Asakura.
“…Ah.”
As soon as our eyes met, Shiori broke away from the group and ran towards me. Asakura and Tojo sighed and held their heads, but Shiori didn’t care and came over to hug my arm.
“Sorry to keep you waiting, Asahi.”
“…Oh, good job, Shiori.”
“…Ah.”
Shiori finally noticed. I couldn’t look, but Shiori glanced back and froze for a moment before letting out a breath and starting to walk.
“Don’t worry about it, let’s go!”
She said this and firmly pulled my arm. There’s a stream tonight, and I wonder if anyone will ask about it… Well, I’ll leave it to Shiori to handle it behind the scenes or ignore it.
“I bought a cake while waiting for you. How about we eat it after dinner?”
“What? Really!? I want to…but I’ve been eating too many sweets lately… But since you bought it, I can’t say no!”
“Haha, I’m glad you’re happy. But even if you gain a little weight, I won’t—”
“Girls don’t want to hear that!”
I quickly apologized, realizing it’s not a good idea to talk about weight with women. Still, in our relationship, there are things we can say to each other, but I should be careful.
“I don’t really mind, though.”
“But I should be careful, right?”
“Yeah, don’t say it to anyone else, okay?”
“…You’re spoiling me again, Shiori.”
“It’s because you don’t mean any harm. It’s based on our relationship.”
“I see.”
“Yeah.”
We chatted cheerfully as we returned to the apartment. When she went to take a bath first, I checked my phone and saw a message from Asakura. We exchanged contacts on a whim, but I figured it was about earlier.
“Everyone was a bit surprised by what happened earlier. Since they don’t know much about your family, there’s a theory you’re her brother, haha.”
…What is that? To me, Shiori is definitely popular, but I guess from her female friends’ perspective, this is how they see it… I feel a bit bad for her. After some light chatting with Asakura, she reassured me she’d help cover for us before tonight’s stream.
“I’m done!”
“Alright, I’ll go in.”
“Wait a sec.”
“Huh?”
As I stood up, Shiori hugged me from behind.
“I want you to smell my nice scent after taking a bath.”
“…It’ll wash off soon anyway.”
“Hehe, it’s to make your heart race.”
…Lately, she’s been more forward with this kind of behavior. If this keeps up, I wonder how long I can hold out. I know she won’t dislike it; in fact, it feels like she’s aiming for this outcome. I’ve come to understand this from spending so much time with her.
(She’s seriously trying to make sure I can never leave her…)
If we take this relationship further, it might really happen. I do want that, but I also think it’s okay to take it slow.
“Aren’t you going to take a bath?”
“Yeah, I’m going.”
For now, let’s enjoy our relationship at our own pace. These irreplaceable days with her, who was once my dream VTuber.
