Chapter 16: She Caught a Cold
“It seems like Zami-san has been really lively since coming back from break.”
“Her way of talking hasn’t changed, but yeah, she does seem different.”
“Could she have gotten a boyfriend or something?”
“Stop it.”
“If she had a boyfriend, she’d turn into a total anti-fan.”
“Haha, it’s not like she can’t have a boyfriend, but it’s a bit creepy.”
“She shouldn’t be getting Super Chats if she’s going to get a boyfriend.”
“That doesn’t make any sense.”
“Anyway, Zami-san seems like she’d handle it well, and even if she did have one, she’d probably keep it a secret.”
“…Seems like things are getting lively.”
I thought this while looking at the comments left on Iroha’s casual talk livestream archive.
Lately, there have been a lot of comments speculating about changes in Shiori’s life… I checked her tone of voice to see if there was any noticeable change, but nothing seemed different.
“Maybe because I’ve always been by her side.”
I stared at the comment section for a while, then remembered what I had to do and went back to work.
“*Sigh*”
Today, I’ve been cleaning the living room since morning.
Of course, not just the living room, but also the hallway and bedroom… I’ll clean wherever I can except those places.
“Well, it’s already clean, but once I start cleaning, I can’t stop until I’m satisfied.”
I hummed to myself as I wiped the floor.
Normally, Shiori would be here to talk with me, but it’s too quiet without her voice.
Feeling a bit lonely, I continued cleaning until noon.
“Alright, I’ll finish after I eat…”
I paused cleaning and started preparing lunch.
I’ll bring some rice porridge and… maybe bring an apple around three o’clock.
“Shiori, I’m coming in.”
I entered the bedroom that Shiori and I use… with the rice porridge in hand.
“…Asahi-san?”
Shiori, with a cool patch on her forehead, was lying down.
Yes, she caught a cold… She was perfectly fine yesterday and even did her usual livestream, but this morning, her condition suddenly worsened.
“I made rice porridge.”
“Ah, thank you.”
I said it’s fine and went beside her.
Her stomach growled loudly as she sat up, embarrassed, but she hadn’t eaten anything since morning, so it couldn’t be helped.
“Rice porridge won’t fill you up much, but I thought you should eat something.”
“Yeah… I really appreciate it.”
By the way, her temperature is 38 degrees… It’s quite high.
“…Want me to feed you?”
“…Yeah.”
As she requested, I fed her carefully so it wouldn’t spill.
Rice porridge isn’t particularly tasty… I don’t want to say it’s bland, but compared to regular meals, it’s definitely lacking in flavor.
Still, she said it was delicious and that she was happy I made it, which made me happy too.
“I’ll make something more filling for dinner. I’m hoping things get better than they are now.”
“Thank you, Asahi-san… But my fever has gone down. It’s best not to push it, but I think I’ll feel better after a bit more sleep.”
“Oh, okay. That’s good then.”
But… I shouldn’t say this, but Shiori, weakened by her fever, looks even younger than usual.
“What about tonight?”
“Um…”
She meant where she would sleep.
If we sleep together here, I’ll probably catch her cold for sure… So naturally, we should sleep separately, but there’s only one bed.
Feeling down, Shiori sighed and said, “I knew this could happen, but I didn’t prepare another bed… Ah!”
“Sh-Shiori!?”
Shiori messed up her hair in frustration, which made her cough.
“We’ll figure that out later. I’ll sleep in the living room. That sofa is really comfortable.”
“…I’m sorry?”
“No need to apologize. But I’m relieved… You seem to be feeling better than I expected.”
“Well, yeah… But it’s still best not to catch a cold.”
No one wants to get sick, and Shiori is careful about her health, so it can’t be helped.
“But… Hehe, it’s nice like this, isn’t it? Normally, I’d be alone waiting to recover even if I caught a cold.”
“…Did my being here help?”
“It did… A lot.”
Ah… Just hearing those words makes me happy.
“I’ll peel an apple for you around three o’clock.”
“Really? …Isn’t it the opposite of earlier?”
“Yeah… I bought some delicious ones.”
“Thanks♪”
After chatting for a few more minutes, I left the bedroom.
I feel bad for Shiori, but taking care of someone like this is a new experience for me… Surprisingly, it doesn’t feel bad at all.
Helping someone like this is enjoyable and makes me happy.
“Now then, let’s make this room sparkle even more.”
If that’s the case, I’ll devote myself to cleaning thoroughly today.
With those words of gratitude from her as my motivation, I strive for such a simple reward.

Chapter 17: It’s Going to be a Noisy Night
“Yeah… I’m doing my best.”
“I can tell from Asahi’s voice. But as a parent, I also want to see the child a bit more… Whenever you’re ready, show your face.”
“…Got it. When that time comes.”
“Oh.”
“…I might want to introduce someone important.”
“Wait…!? Are you saying what I think you’re saying!?”
“N-nothing! See you later!”
“Wait a moment–”
Hmm… I might have slipped up a bit.
With Mom’s reaction like that, Dad will figure it out soon… I might have really messed up.
“Asahi-san, I’m back.”
“W-Welcome back!!”
Right after hanging up the phone, Shiori, who had gone to take a bath, returned.
She always looks alluring after a bath, and it’s no exaggeration to say she always makes my heart race.
I was flustered from the conversation with Mom, but Shiori noticed everything perfectly… and the result.
“Who were you on the phone with?”
“…It was Mom.”
“Mom…? That’s really nice–”
“…………”
I felt a bit… like I wanted to impress.
Since the day Shiori caught a cold, I’ve been doing things like accompanying her to meetings at work—just standing by, really—and helping with video editing and cleaning the livestream room together… Building up a lot of trust, too.
So, I kind of wanted to say something like this.
“My mom said she’d be happy to see you anytime.”
“Yeah.”
“…And I might have mentioned wanting to introduce someone important at that time.”
“Ah…”
Shiori’s eyes widened in surprise.
But quickly recovering, her cheeks flushed red, and she looked down in embarrassment.
As a quiet air hung between us, Shiori suddenly lifted her head and said,
“Then, we absolutely have to go! And maybe I’d like to introduce the person who’s been supporting me to my parents too!?”
“Sh-Shiori, calm down!!”
“I can’t calm down about this! Oh no… How should I meet them… Ahhhh!!”
Shiori got even more excited and started to act strangely.
But despite thinking it might be a bit much, it’s really nice to feel this close… To revel in a superiority that others don’t have.
“Asahi-san, let me know as soon as that day is decided! I’ll do my makeup perfectly and get ready! Of course, I’ll bring souvenirs too!”
“Uh, okay.”
“Phew! I’m super pumped up today! Let’s do our best in today’s livestream!”
Oh, she’s off… Shiori disappeared into the livestream room with amazing energy, even though it wasn’t scheduled yet, the stream started right away because she was overflowing with enthusiasm.
This kind of thing doesn’t usually happen, and the listeners seemed surprised by Shiori’s high spirits.
Comment: What’s going on…?
Comment: Zami-san… has she finally gone crazy?
Comment: Her voice is really high-pitched too.
Comment: Is she drinking alcohol?
Comment: Stop bothering the neighbors, okay?
Comment: It’s really noisy, lol.
“Since I’m in such a great mood today, I’ll allow quite a bit of comments!”
I chuckled at Shiori’s voice echoing from the phone.
Today, instead of her usual game stream, it seemed like she planned a chat stream, mainly talking about recent events.
“Everyone, seriously, be careful with colds. Actually, I caught a cold a while ago.”
Comment: Oh, really?
Comment: Your voice did sound a bit different.
Comment: Take care.
Comment: Don’t overdo it.
“I’m not pushing myself. Actually, I took plenty of rest and it was a great mental break too! It’s important to rest if you feel even a little off.”
Comment: That’s true.
Comment: Normal office workers can’t even rest like that.
Comment: Well, that’s not how regular companies are.
When talking about taking breaks like this, you start to see a glimpse of modern Japan’s hardships… You can’t help but notice these aspects more when you carefully read Shiori’s comments as a moderator.
“During a cold, rice porridge is good, and apples and fruits are nice too… In the evening, when your condition stabilizes, udon noodles are totally fine!”
Shiori, that’s the full menu from that day…
After that, Shiori continued her high-energy stream, and I fulfilled my duties as a moderator.
Today, there were no comments crossing the line, and it was a very peaceful stream.
“…Ahem.”
At times like this, if I were alone, I’d cough loudly, but since spending time with Shiori, I’ve become much more restrained.
Her streaming room is soundproof, so no sound reaches in or out… I know my voice won’t reach from the living room, but I still became so cautious.
“…Huh?”
Suddenly, I received a message from Shiori.
It seems she sent it while chatting, but the listeners didn’t notice at all.
“Mai is coming, so let her in.”
“Mai-san?”
What could this mean? I wondered as the intercom rang, heading to the front door.
Looking at the outdoor camera, Mai-san was there, so I let her into the room as Shiori had instructed.
“Ah, thanks, Tomokawa-san.”
“No… I didn’t really understand either. Shiori-san said Mai-san was coming, so I let her in.”
“…Seriously, thank you!”
But… what’s going on?
“Well, actually, I was playing a horror game until just now. I got scared and couldn’t sleep alone, so I came to crash here!”
“…………”
Come to think of it, she did seem to be streaming horror games around the same time as Shiori… Um, what does that mean?
“I’ll be staying over tonight, so please take care of me!”
“…Uh, okay.”
…I guess we just shouldn’t play horror games then… Am I the only one who thought that?
