The Otherworld Was Way Too Brutal – After I Healed the Mutilated Girl, She Turned Into a Completely Obsessed Yandere Guard Dog - Chapter 30
Chapter 30
The slum area was completely swallowed up by flames and thick black smoke.
Only the roars of those twisted monsters and the sickening sounds of metal smashing into flesh filled the battlefield.
“DRAAAAAHHHHHH!!”
Ray’s huge shout echoed out.
His greatsword whipped through the air, kicking up wind as it slashed sideways in a wide arc.
The three freaks charging right at us got blasted away.
A truly brutal swing.
Exactly what you’d expect from that sword.
His newly regenerated right arm was handling the massive weight of the greatsword perfectly, turning every bit of it into pure destruction.
“Jin! Coming from the right!”
“I got it!”
The second Ray warned me, I thrust my right hand forward.
Something jumped out from the shadow of the rubble.
A freak covered in bone spikes all over its body.
Maybe it used to be an old person once.
But now it was just a chunk of meat driven by nothing but the urge to kill.
I threw away any hesitation.
I flipped the knife into a reverse grip and used the momentum of its charge—sliding right past it to rip open its throat.
The feeling was way too real.
Not like cutting a magic beast.
This was the sensation of slicing into a human.
Nausea hit me hard, rising up in my throat.
But I forced it back down deep inside and moved to the next move.
“Die.”
A cold, flat voice cut through.
A white shadow danced.
It was Tsugumi.
She’d landed silently right behind the freak whose balance I’d messed up, and drove her dagger straight into the base of its skull.
Dead accurate.
And zero mercy in that strike.
The freak collapsed with a heavy thud.
Tsugumi looked at me, her face splattered with blood.
“Jin, you okay? No injuries?”
“Yeah, thanks to you.”
“Good… Next one’s coming.”
Her eyes were clear.
She didn’t seem to care at all that the thing in front of us used to be human.
In her world, there was only Jin and everything else.
And if everything else bared its fangs at Jin, then it was just something that needed to be removed.
That pure, unhinged madness actually saved me a little.
If she’d hesitated even for a second, I probably would’ve started hesitating too.
“Don’t let them surround us! Take them down one by one!”
Cattleya’s voice sliced through the battlefield.
She was commanding the Black Knights while swinging her own sword.
She was drawing the horde of freaks to one spot to secure an escape route for the residents.
“Captain! There’s no end to them! More keep pouring out from the back!”
“Don’t flinch! If we fall back, the civilians die!”
Cattleya’s sharp order rang out.
But the situation was bad.
These freaks had physical strength way beyond normal humans.
They didn’t feel pain. Even if they lost limbs, they kept coming.
Regular soldiers couldn’t hold them back.
That’s when it happened.
Zuzuzun…!
A deep, heavy bass that vibrated in my gut came from beyond the flames.
The freaks around us suddenly backed off like they were scared.
“…What the hell?”
We all looked toward the sound.
Crushing burning buildings underfoot, a massive shadow appeared.
Probably over three meters tall.
Its whole body was covered in muscles swollen like rock.
Only its right arm was freakishly long, dragging along the ground.
And right in the center of its chest was embedded the same kind of red-black, throbbing purple crystal we’d seen on that one-horned rabbit.
“■■■■■—!!”
A scream that wasn’t even words.
Just the shockwave from it snuffed out nearby flames.
“That thing… used to be human too?”
Ray swallowed hard.
There was no trace of a face anymore.
It had been completely remade into a slaughter weapon.
“Giant-type Gigant Type…! Among the failed experiments, this one’s especially dangerous!”
Cattleya shouted.
The monster raised its long right arm.
Just a simple backfist.
But the sheer mass was like a siege weapon.
“Watch out!!”
I yelled.
The monster’s attack was aimed at a parent and child who hadn’t escaped in time.
Too far.
I wasn’t gonna make it.
“—Like hell I’m letting you!!”
With footsteps like explosions, Ray charged.
He slid between the parent-child and the monster, raising his greatsword like a shield.
GAGIIIIIII!!
A deafening metallic screech rang out.
The cobblestones under Ray’s feet shattered into powder, and his knees sank.
“Guh… uuuuughhh!!”
Ray gritted his teeth.
Veins bulged on his forehead, his arm muscles screaming.
But he didn’t budge even one step.
His regenerated right arm was holding back the monster’s insane strength.
“Ray!”
“Heh… what a heavy punch… but! Not heavy enough to knock me back!”
Ray roared.
Then he shoved the greatsword forward, pushing the monster’s arm away.
“Now, Jin! Tsugumi! Go for its core!”
The tiny opening Ray created.
We weren’t gonna miss it.
“Tsugumi, take the right!”
“Got it!”
We split left and right and rushed the monster.
It was focused on Ray.
Tsugumi used rubble as a foothold, leaped high, and swung her dagger straight at the monster’s face.
Aiming for the eyes.
“Shaa!”
The blade sliced through its eyeball.
The monster reared back in pain and flailed its arms wildly.
I slid under those thrashing arms.
My target was dead center of its chest.
That damn purple crystal.
It was pulsing with purple light, thump thump.
That was the weak point—the source of the curse turning this human into a monster.
“Sorry I can’t turn you back…!!”
With those words of apology, I drove the knife in with everything I had.
Gakin!
Hard.
The skin around the crystal had hardened like steel.
The knife almost bounced off.
“■■■—!?”
The monster noticed me and started swinging its left arm down.
A shadow fell over me.
I was gonna get crushed.
But I didn’t back off.
If I backed off here, someone else would die.
My left hand slammed down on the knife handle from above.
I poured magic into it.
Not for destruction.
To strengthen my own body and force the knife in with an explosive burst of regeneration energy.
“Pierce ittttttt!!”
Crack.
I heard the sound of the bones in my left hand snapping.
Didn’t matter.
That impact drove the knife tip through the hardened skin and reached the core of the crystal.
Parin.
A clear, ringing sound echoed across the battlefield.
Cracks spread through the purple crystal, and it shattered.
Instantly, the monster froze.
Its raised left arm stopped in mid-air, then the whole thing collapsed like a puppet with its strings cut.
Zushiii… n.
The giant body hit the ground, kicking up dust.
The purple light faded from its body, rapidly turning into dull gray ash.
Unable to handle the forced mutation from magic, its flesh just broke down.
“…Haa… haa… haa…”
I dropped to my knees right there.
My broken left hand throbbed with pain.
I quickly cast healing magic and reconnected the bone.
“Jin!”
Tsugumi ran over.
She checked I was okay, then let out a relieved breath.
Ray slung his greatsword over his shoulder again, gave a grin, and flashed a thumbs-up.
With the boss freak down, the other mutants slowed too.
Cattleya and the Black Knights started cleaning them up.
A little while later, silence finally returned to the slum area.
The fires were put out, and the residents had all evacuated.
All that was left were collapsed buildings and the ashy remains of the freaks.
“…This is messed up.”
Guy came over.
He’d been busy treating the injured, but things had calmed down for now.
His face was covered in soot, and exhaustion was written all over it.
“Jin-san… all of them were people I knew. Just yesterday they were laughing and talking with me.”
Guy muttered while staring at the pile of ash.
I couldn’t say anything.
I was the one who killed them.
I couldn’t save them. I had no choice but to kill.
“…It’s not your fault.”
Cattleya stood next to me.
“This is the Sumeragi family’s… no, Genzou’s crime. You did everything you could to protect the residents.”
“…I know. I know, but still.”
I wasn’t strong enough to just brush it off.
Some heavy, murky feeling was pooling in my chest.
But I couldn’t stop here.
This wasn’t the end.
It was just the beginning.
“Cattleya.”
“What.”
“This is an experiment, right? Part of the Chimera Project.”
“…Yeah. Collecting combat data, or maybe disposing of failed specimens. Either way, there’s no doubt the master gave the order.”
Cattleya clenched her fist, looking frustrated.
For her too, having her lord take away the people she was supposed to protect must’ve been an unbearable humiliation.
“Is this gonna happen again?”
“As long as the master is alive and that research continues—yeah. Next time it might be on an even bigger scale.”
I looked up at the night sky.
In the direction of the Sumeragi family mansion.
That huge, tombstone-like building.
Right now, was Genzou laughing his head off in there?
Immortality.
How many lives would get crushed under that one desire?
“…Let’s end it.”
I said quietly.
“Jin?”
“No more. We got stronger so we could protect people. Tsugumi’s arms and legs are healed. Ray’s arm is back.”
I looked around at my companions’ faces.
Tsugumi.
Ray.
Cattleya.
All of them were waiting for my words.
“We’re not letting him do whatever he wants anymore. We’re stopping Genzou ourselves.”
That was a declaration of war against the ruler of this city.
If we failed, execution.
Even if we succeeded, it’d be a bloody path.
But nobody looked away.
“No objections here. This new arm of mine exists for exactly that.”
“Me too. If Jin’s doing it, I’ll follow you to the bottom of hell.”
“…As a knight, it’s rebellion against my lord. But as a human, it’s the right path. I’m in, Jin.”
Their words pushed me forward.
“Thanks.”
I said it short and simple.
“Tonight. While everything’s still chaotic, the mansion’s security might be thin. With Cattleya guiding us, we sneak inside and take down Genzou.”
“Understood. I’ll make the arrangements.”
We steeled ourselves and left the slum area.
Before dawn.
We stood in front of Genzou’s mansion.
