- Chapter 28 - Curse King VS Witch
What is this?
Grelod Majerm had poured her long life spanning 1000 years into the refinement of magic.
Attributes, inherent magic, magic power manipulation, Gifts.
The power called magic, where various factors intertwined and bore fruit—naturally talent mattered, but above all, experience directly connected to its perfection.
Several thousand years had passed since “sorcery,” which once existed in this world, transformed into magic.
Excluding high-rank races, Grelod was certainly one of this world’s foremost experts in magic.
But nothing worked.
Her first move—the death arm that Grelod released, her own Gift—was now—
“The act of eating is more important to humans than anything else in this world.”
SNAP.
“It can be declared the privilege of the living. Devouring others’ lives to add to one’s own life. Living can be rephrased as constantly stealing from others.”
Squelch, drip.
Black arms.
Her own talent, and the magic governing death bestowed by her own god—they were being torn apart one by one before her eyes.
“But however, humans don’t only steal. At some point they learned to raise, to nurture, to increase for the purpose of eating. Fields are among those closest to the origin of humanity’s progress.”
This man.
Grelod didn’t understand what this boy—equal to a baby compared to her—was saying.
Only one thing she understood.
SNAP.
“Destroying fields, carelessly wasting food that others raised… You obstructed my life. Therefore—”
“Wh-who are you?! You!”
Once more, Grelod released that Gift—the death-bringing magic power arm.
“—I don’t intend to let you live.”
Drorororo.
This time for sure. Black arms poured down like a torrent upon the strange boy.
Melting the field, rotting the sprouts, defiling the water.
Death itself poured down.
“Kehi.”
“Ii!? Agah!?!!”
Stomach—intense pain. Back—creaking.
At a speed unseeable by eye, her stomach was punched, her back stomped and kicked.
The witch who could walk the sky through magic power manipulation.
However, when consciousness returned, she found herself on the field’s soil.
Understanding that she’d been slammed to the ground—
“Hey, don’t dirty my field.”
“Ah.”
A voice from behind her back.
“That filthy death power dirtied my field. What do you intend to do about it?”
“Fie-ld? Thi-this is my field—”
“Wrong. My field.”
RIIIIIP!!
“AH, GYAAAAAAAAA!???”
What was that sound? The sound of plucked wings.
The boy dismantled the raven wings growing from Grelod’s waist with the ease of picking chicken wings apart.
“Kehi, ah, you’ll make good fertilizer.”
“Yo-u, monster!! Don’t get cocky!!”
WHOOSH.
What gushed from the wound at her waist was pure magic power.
Black magic power altered by the death goddess was released at the boy.
“How’s that!? For talking so cocky!! Da-mn! My wings…!! Using recovery magic for the first time in 200 years…”
Grelod’s movement, trying to heal her own wound, stopped.
Because she couldn’t believe the scene before her when she turned around.
A directional death attribute magic power release—it should have hit him directly.
“Put more curse into it.”
“AH!?”
CRACK.
Her cheekbone shattered. Her eyes nearly burst from their sockets.
It wasn’t working.
Even bathing in Grelod’s magic power as the death goddess’s follower—magic power that could be called death itself.
“Spell deployment: [Humanoid Earth].”
Drip.
Black flame-like magic power dripped from the boy’s arm.
It dropped onto the field.
‘ZUOOOOOOO’
‘OBOOOOOOO’
‘BOBOBOBOBOBO’
The field’s soil changed form into giants made of earth.
“Go-Golems…? Summoning magic!? Impossible…! Without a contract circle!? Gi-Gifted!? Do-don’t get cocky!”
Grelod took to the sky again.
The soil giants stood as if protecting their caster.
“How to kill summoning magic users is decided! You lot are weak at close combat…”
“Close combat? What’s that?”
“Heh, GYAU!?”
THUD.
To the sky—she should have escaped there.
Caught up with a simple leap, Grelod was slammed to the ground again.
Right where she was slammed down—
”’BOBOBOBOBOBO”’
“Know the field’s anger.”
“Gya, AH!?”
An attack of great mass by golems made from the field’s soil as their material.
1000 years of refinement, the gift from the goddess—none of what Grelod possessed worked on this boy!
Death.
Realization.
Grelod properly realized that crisis.
“Erosion Domain.”
She played her strongest card.
Erosion of the world itself through her own magic power.
A combined technique of magic barrier and Gift and inherent magic.
Undoubtedly the innermost technique of magic combat.
“[Death Realm]!!!!”
A black domain covered both the boy and Grelod.
The world’s laws were now hers through Grelod’s magic power.
That Gift, which forced death upon others, was further strengthened and poured down from the heavens.
“Hi, HIHIHIHIHI!! Try, try defending! Brat! If you ca—n… Huh?”
“Spell deployment: [Aburaya Joruri].”
FWOOSH…
Blue flames lit upon the boy’s arm.
“Yo-u, why…? Attribute magic…? Impossible. You’re a summoning magic user…”
“Wrong. I’m not even a magic user in the first place.”
“Huh?”
Grelod’s bewildered voice.
The mask covering only his mouth—the boy smiled with only his eyes.
“A sorcerer.”
FWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
The giant death arm burned down. The black curtain was burned away by blue flames.
“Haha… You… Who are you…? No, I see… You’re those three’s… Cursed—”
“You were on my kill list all along, but… Thanks for the meals these past 5 years. Well then—hag.”
“—Hihihihi… So that’s what it is. From the start… I’d already lost. Damn brat.”
FWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
Blue flames burned the witch away.
