Chapter 6: The Gyaru Wants to Kiss at Karaoke ♡ (Part 1)

“Everyone’s eyes are on me—”

Ah, I know this song.

While the gyaru was singing and dancing excitedly,  I quietly shook a pair of maracas to the rhythm. She was entertaining enough to watch, especially with her amazing singing and dancing. 

But… My gaze couldn’t help but wander to the… 

Fluttery~

To that short, short skirt swaying wildly from side to side. It wasn’t like I wanted to see under it. Really. I really didn’t have that kind of thought, but I was just worried how dangerously close she always seemed to flash her underwear. In fact… The young male waiter who had brought our fried chicken earlier… He was definitely crouching lower than necessary. Maybe this was because I was in my late 20s, but the thought of her getting ogled by a random man like that just irritated me somehow.

“Phew! I’ve sung a lot!”

After powering through 8 songs in a row, the gyaru plopped down onto the sofa and grabbed a piece of fried chicken from the table. 

“Old man, are you sure you don’t wanna sing?”

“Yeah, I’m good. Just watching you perform is entertaining enough for me.”

It’s not because I want to catch a glimpse of her underwear or anything… Absolutely not.

“But man, I’m so glad we made it in time! I thought we weren’t going to make it before seven!”

“Yeah. I was really surprised when you suddenly took off running.”

It turned out, she hadn’t dragged me out of the mall in a mad dash to catch her train. No. Her real goal was the karaoke place near the station. Apparently, her discount coupon was only valid until 7:00 PM.

“I mean, it’s half off, you know?! Even if you’re going to treat me, it’d be a waste not to use it!”

“Huh? I’m paying?”

I tilted my head to the side in confusion. 

“Well, today is your treat, right? You promised! You said you’d treat me to anything if I got dumped!”

“I mean, yeah, I did promise that…”

From the phone strap, to the crepes and now karaoke… Could it be… She’s only using me as her personal wallet??

“Anyway! Old man, you’re sitting way too far from me. There’s only the two of us here, so why do you have to sit all the way at the edge of the couch?”

“This is… Well, it’s nothing. Don’t mind me.”

I was trying to keep some distance between us. Being alone in a karaoke booth with a high school girl was already risky enough, but if she got too close to me… That would be disaster. As in a certain body part at the lower-half of my body would be in jeopardy. 

“Well, whatever. Old man, if you’re not going to sing, then I will sing again! I feel like singing today! I’m going to sing, sing, sing and sing! I feel like I can go all night long with you, old man!”

“What are you talking about? We’re definitely not going to sing all night long. Your parents are going to be worried about you and besides, you have school tomorrow, don’t you?”

“Aww! It’s just for one day! It’s fine, it’s fine! I will tell my parents I’m with a responsible adult and I can just skip school tomorrow!”

No, no. Please stop. They’re going to jump to the wrong conclusions…

“No. You need to go to school properly. If you’re not going to listen to me, I will leave right now.”

“Aww! Old man, you’re so stingy!”

The gyaru puffed her cheeks out and sulked. How adorable. 

“Ah! Then, then!”

The gyaru suddenly lit up, as if she had a brilliant idea. She then crawled on all fours across the couch toward me. 

“O-Oi! Wa-Wait!!”

Panicking, I hurriedly distanced myself from her, but she kept inching closer. When I was finally pushed up against the wall, the gyaru grinned widely and held out a mic to me. 

“Do a duet with me! Come on! If you do, I will listen to you!”

No, no. This girl… Isn’t she too adorable?!

“Well, in that case…”

I took the mic into my hand. 

“Yay! Then, do you know this song, old man?”

The gyaru said as she showed me the karaoke device. Of course, our bodies were pressed close together, but I convinced myself that this situation was beyond my help. 

“Sorry, I don’t know it.”

“I see. Then how about this one?”

Still, it was hard to find a song we both knew. Well, I had expected this much. I hadn’t kept up with the latest popular songs after all. As we scrolled through the screen, the name of a certain male due caught my eyes. 

“Ah, I can sing this one.”

“Oh! Nice! I know it too! Let’s go with this one!”

Finding something in common with a girl who was much younger than me felt oddly nice. She chose the song and the intro started playing. Beads of sweats started to form in my hand that was holding onto the mic. I wasn’t bad at singing, but it had been a while since I’d done karaoke. Plus, I was about to sing a duet with a beautiful girl while sitting extremely close to her. It would be strange if I didn’t feel nervous.

“You’re up first, old man.”

“Ah, yes!”

I hurriedly brought the mic close to my mouth.

“♩〜♩〜”

As soon as I started singing, the tension eased. My mouth moved smoothly according to the song and most importantly… Singing a duet with her felt fun. 

“♩〜♩〜”

However, when the song reached the second verse, she stopped singing. I didn’t know why, but I continued singing alone. As I did, her head slowly rested on my shoulder. I was a little surprised with this gesture, but since she wasn’t falling asleep on me, I decided to keep singing until the end while basking in the warmth of her head on my shoulder. 

“Ho-How was it?”

After I finished singing the song, I tilted my head to the side a bit, peering at her face since she was still resting her head against me. 

“…Good.”

“Huh?”

“It was really good!!”

With her eyes sparkling, the gyaru placed both hands on my thigh and leaned in close. 

“Old man, your singing voice is insane!! Your voice was super sexy! My heart was totally going thump-thump from it!♡”

Apparently, my singing voice had made her heart skip a beat. Hahaha… No way. 

“Tha-Thank you… Hahaha…”

While she was bouncing on the coach, I grabbed her shoulder to push her away from me a bit, but instead, she grabbed my wrist.

“I want to kiss you, old man!”

“KISS?!?! What are you talking about all of a sudden like that?! Of course it’s a no!”

“Come on, it’s fine~ ♡ Let’s kiss~ ♡ Kiiiiissss-“

The gyaru puckered her lips and leaned in close to me. 

“No! No way!”

“Come on~ It’s just a little kiss~ ♡Oh, of course, on the mouth~♡”

“That makes it even worse!!”

“It’ll be our little secret, okay?~♡ Come on, let’s kiiiiissss-“

“I said no!!”

At that, I forcefully pushed her down onto the sofa. In a room where we were alone together, she was lying on her back on the sofa, not particularly resisting while looking straight into my eyes. 

“Old man, do you hate me?”

She gently placed her hand on my cheek. The playful, cheeky girl persona she had shown had disappeared. She looked really anxious and fragile now. 

“I don’t hate you… In fact, I’m feeling troubled here because I don’t hate you. If we kiss, I’m afraid I won’t be able to hold back…”

“You don’t need to hold back. If it’s you, old man… I don’t mind whatever you do to me…”

Saying that, she closed her eyes.
