Chapter 41: The Handsome Rival Returns Way Too Soon!

“Tsubasa-kun!?”

We were at the bowling floor of Round Two entertainment complex. A little distance away from the entrance of the restroom, someone called out to me. Who was it? Of course, it was none other than Tsubasa-kun, Ayane-san’s childhood fiend and also… My rival in love.

“Yo!”

“Uh… Hey? Fancy running into you here…”

To be fair, calling him my ‘rival’ might be pushing it. The only reason why we were in a love triangle situation was because Ayane-san was completely smitten with me. Realistically speaking, there was no way I could compete with him. With his long limbs, small face and his dazzling model-like face, there was no way an ordinary salaryman in his 20s like me could stand a chance against him. 

Actually, when I last saw him, he was just a regular handsome guy, but after just a few days not meeting him, he had somehow evolved into a radiantly refreshing, ultra-handsome version of himself. Seriously, he looks like he’s already maxed out his ‘charm’ stat and he’s still in high school! The heck?! Don’t tell me… It’s my fault? I mean, I did tell him to improve on himself so he could steal Ayane-san from e… Did he actually take my words to heart and level up? No way… He’s not seriously here to steal Ayane-san back, is he!? …There’s no way. It’s way too soon! I mean, come on! I haven’t even kissed her yet! Let alone do anything else!

“Ayane’s not with you?”

His ultra-handsome smile was so blindingly bright that I couldn’t look at him directly.

“S-Sorry… Actually, she is. She just went to the restroom for a bit…”

For some reason, I ended up apologizing to him.

“Hahaha! You’re hilarious, man!”

And for some reason, he started laughing instead. 

“No need to apologize. You’re officially Ayane’s boyfriend, after all! Of course, you’d be out on a date with her!”

“Guh!?”

His dazzling smile paralyzed me on the spot. 

“Tsubasa? Who’s this guy?”

Oh no. Now there are three more extroverted guys joining him. My crisis alarm is blaring at full volume!!

“Listen up, fellas! You’re looking at Ayane’s brand new, super cool boyfriend!”

The super handsome guy said confidently without any ounce of sarcasm in his voice. 

OIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII?!?!?! I’m just a regular guy! A plain salaryman with no redeeming quality whatsoever! 

It took everything in me to maintain a polite smile at them. 

“Huh? This guy…? I mean, no offense, but… He’s kinda average. I thought Ayane’s ype would be someone as handsome as Tsubasa at least…”

I mean… Yeah. I totally get why you’d think that.

“Hey, don’t be rude! A man’s worth isn’t about looks! It’s about what’s in here!”

Tsubasa-kun said while pounding his chest dramatically. 

Tsubasa-kun… You’re way too passionate about this….

“Isn’t that right, Onii-san?!”

The dazzlingly handsome guy shot his smile at me. 

“Ri-Right… That’s right…”

Somebody… Please, help me…

“Ahh! Isn’t that Ayane’s boyfriend?!”

NOW WHAT?!?!?

Looking past the wall of extroverted guys, I saw a group of flashy gyaru girls approaching us. 

“Wait a second…”

I knew them. Those four gyaru girls were the same girls we had run into at the shopping mall before. 

“Whoa, what a coincidence! Out on a date with Ayane, huh?”

One of the girls—the energetic one who previously had tried to tempt me into having some ‘casual fun’ with her, started smacking me on the back. Hard. Since her hair was tied in a bun, I decided to call her Bun Gyaru.

…Not that it really matters right now, because OUCH.

“Uh… Yeah, something like that. Haha…”

Suddenly, I found myself completely surrounded by these ultra sociable extroverts. I could feel the cold sweat dripping down my back. 

“Must be nice, huh? Having a lovey-dovey date while me and Noa here are still single~”

Bun Gyaru said while draping an arm over the shoulder of a smaller girl.

Right. I remember this one. The self-proclaimed sadist. I guess I will call her Little Devil Gyaru.

“We’re both single because there aren’t any good guys out there.”

“Single, huh…”

Even though the two of them were pretty adorable. 

“Wait, Onii-san. Just because we’re free, doesn’t mean we’re ‘easy,’ okay?”

The Bun Gyaru smacked me on the head. Again. 

“I get it, I get it.”

“Geez! Onii-san, you’re so perverted!”

I didn’t even say anything!!!

“Anyway, so like… These two are dating and so are these two.”

Bun Gyaru said while pairing off two of the guys with two of the girls. 

“Huh… I see…”

They actually looked good together, unlike me and Ayane-san. I was well aware of how mismatched we were. In fact, the gap almost looked ridiculous. 

“Hey, hey? Onii-san?”

Little Devil Gyaru tugged at my sleeve. 

“Since Ayane is not here… Why don’t we exchange contact information?”

“Huh? Contact information?”

Why…?

“I will tell you all of Ayane’s most embarrassing secrets~♡”

“Embarrassing secrets…?”

What a wicked girl. Truly living up to the “Little Devil” name.

“Absolutely!”

I immediately held my phone out to her. 

“Wait! Noa! That’s not fair! I want to exchange contact information with him too!

And so, I ended up swapping contact information with Bun Gyaru, a.k.a. Hibiki-san. With this, my recent friends list was full of gyarus. 

Am I in my popular period…?

I pondered the completely unrealistic possibility when Little Devil Gyaru leaned in and whispered into my ear. 

“Hey, Onii-san… Let’s meet up next time. Just the two of us. Without Ayane knowing~♡”

“No, no, I definitely can’t-“

“—That’s why Risa, why don’t you just date Ossan too?”

Before I could reject the Little Devil Gyaru’s invitation, the noise level around me suddenly rose even higher.

Chapter 42: Just Friends? No, We’re Share Friends!

“Hey, Onii-san… Let’s meet up next time. Just the two of us. Without Ayane knowing~♡”

“No, no, I definitely can’t-“

Before I could reject the Little Devil Gyaru’s invitation, my ears caught the lively chatter of a bunch of gyaru girls.

“—That’s why Risa, why don’t you just date Ossan too?”

“No, no, there’s no way I could go out with him too?!?!?!”

“But, you’re interested in Oji-san too, right, Risa?”

“No, I mean… That’s… Well… That’s…”

“That’s why! Let’s share Ossan together, Risa! Wouldn’t that be fun?”

“I mean… Maybe, but…”

“Besides, Ossan said it himself, you know? He has a driver’s license, so he was thinking about taking us on a drive date soon. I remember you said you wanted to go on a drive date, right, Risa?”

“Huh?! A drive date?! Yeah! I want to go on a drive date!”

Risa-san’s eyes sparkled with excitement. 

“Huh? Ossan, what are you doing over there?”

Fresh from the restroom, the three gyarus finally noticed me standing there. 

“Hahaha… Hey, everyone?”

I raised my hand in greeting, but Misaki-san’s eyes widened in shock upon seeing who I was with.

“Ossan is getting mugged by a bunch of guys!!”

No, I am not!?

“Yo, Ayane.”

The handsome childhood friend called out to Ayane. 

“Huh? Why is Tsubasa here too…? Ugh. What-?!”

Ayane-san’s face scrunched up the moment she spotted the four gyaru standing nearby.

“Hey, what’s with that reaction!? What do you mean ‘ugh’!? That’s so rude!”

The Bun Gyaru marched up to Ayane-san in protest. Misaki-san, who was watching from the side, tilted her head in confusion. 

“Huh? Are these girls friends of yours, Ayane?”

“…Not just the girls. All eight of them are from my school.”

“Ohh! So they’re your friends! What a crazy coincidence!”

“Ugh… Why did we have to run into them now of all times…”

Ayane-san said while pinching the bridge of her nose in exasperation. Meanwhile, Bun Gyaru, who had just locked eyes with Misaki-san, suddenly froze on the spot. 

“Wait a sec… The girl next to Ayane… Isn’t she Misaki Tsukishiro from ○○ High!?”

“Huh? You know me?”

“Know you? Please. You and Ayane are famous around here.”

Bun Gyaru responded with an exasperated sigh. 

“Whoa! Ayane, we’re famous! That’s awesome!”

With a beaming smile, Misaki-san threw her arms around Ayane-san. The way these gyaru were all over each other was a bit overwhelming to witness.

“Ye-Yeah…”

That said, it was obvious Ayane-san wasn’t thrilled. I could tell from the look on her face. Maybe Ayane-san didn’t want her friends to know about our relationship…

“Wait… You two know each other!?”

Well, of course they would ask that. Misaki-san was clinging to Ayane-san so much. It was only natural for them to be curious.

“What’s the relationship between you two?!”

And yeah, I also figured they’d ask that. 

“M-Misaki and I are just friends, okay? More importantly, isn’t it about time for us to go? Right, Oji-san?”

“Huh? Go?”

I blinked in confusion as Ayane-san subtly signed to me with her eyes. 

“Oh—ohh! Yeah, that’s right. We should get going soon. If you’ll excuse us…”

I quickly moved behind Risa-san, who had been shrinking into the background, and placed a hand on her shoulder.

“Hyaah!”

A cute little yelp escaped her lips, but I didn’t let it faze me as I gently nudged her toward the elevator.

“Come on, Misaki. We’re leaving.”

Ayane-san grabbed Misaki-san’s hand, but for some reason, Misaki was grinning. I had a bad feeling about this…

“Geez, Ayane! You don’t have to be so shy! We’re not just friends, you know!”

“Huh!? Then what are you two!?”

Bun Gyaru was quick to jump on the wagon. 

“Misaki! You don’t need to answer that—”

“Weeeeell…”

Misaki-san pulled Ayane-san’s arm tighter against her and smirked. 

“We’re sharing Ossan! As his girlfriends! The two of us together!”

“Wha—T-Two of you!?”

Ayane-san’s friends all looked stunned, understandably so. 

“That’s right! I’m sharing Ossan together with Ayane! Yay!~”

Misaki-san flashed a huge smile complete with a peace sign. 

“”SHARING OSSAN????””

The entire group of friends gasped in disbelief.

Well, yeah. Sharing a guy isn’t exactly something you hear every day.

“U-Umm…!”

Suddenly, a voice came from in front of me. I had been so focused on the conversation behind me that I didn’t even notice one of the guys had been standing in front of us. He was a short-haired boy with a cheerful, energetic air to him. He was actually pretty handsome and right now… He looked extremely nervous as he extended a hand toward Risa-san. 

“I like you! Please go out with me!!”

“Eh?”

“Huh?”

A brief silence followed before…

“”WHAAAAAAAAAAAT?!?!””

Everyone present let out a shocked shout at the sudden love confession from the cheerful-looking boy. 

“I fell in love with you at first sight!”

The short-haired boy confessed his feelings for Risa-san confidently.
