While wiping the sweat from my forehead, I said to the gyaru in a calm voice.
“Let’s just give up…”
There was no reply from her, who was still crouching on the sidewalk.
“If we can’t find it after searching this much, maybe you dropped the decoration somewhere else…”
It had been three hours since we started searching for the star-shaped decoration that came loose from the hand strap. I had already lost track of how many times we had walked back and forth in front of the station.
“Hic… It was a gift from my boyfriend… Uuuu… At this rate, I’m going to get dumped…”
It had already gotten dark and she had collapsed to the ground from exhaustion. Big drop of tears were falling from her eyes.
Why is she so desperate? I really can’t imagine a guy would break up with you just because you lost a small star ornament. In fact, if she’s dating someone like that, it might be better for her to get dumped for her own good.
How frustrating. If I were her boyfriend, I would hug her right now and say something like,”You don’t have to search for it anymore. Thank you. I can tell how much you care about the gift,” and gently wiped away her tears… But as someone who wasn’t her boyfriend and not even her friend… As some stranger who was helping her to look for something, all I could do was offer her a handkerchief.
“Sniff… Thank you…”
She accepted her handkerchief and began to wipe her tears with it, but the tears kept flowing on like a broken dam. I crouched down in front of her.
“I know the opinion of a stranger like me is of no use for you, but I don’t think there’s any guy who would dump his girlfriend just because she accidentally broke a gift a bit, you know?”
“Sniff... Really…?”
The confident girl I first met seemed to have disappeared, replaced by a puppy-like girl full of anxiety. She was gazing up at me with teary eyes and I smiled gently in return, hoping I could give her a little piece of mind.
“Of course!”
If possible, I also wanted to find her lost ornament so I could receive her thank-you kiss (preferably on the lips), but it seemed she had reached her limit physically.
“How about you head home soon? Your parents must be worried sick about you.”
I gently extended my hand to her and she wiped her tears again before taking my hand. I helped her to her feet and guided her to the station stairs.
“Are you sure you’ll be okay on your own?”
“Yes.”
She nodded while muttering softly. Then, I watched her climb the stairs. Once she reached the top, she stopped and turned around to face me.
“I… I won’t get dumped by my boyfriend, right?”
Filled with anxiety, she froze in place. So, I climbed up the stairs and walked with her to the ticket gate. She stopped once again after passing through the gate.
“He really, really, really won’t dump me, right?”
Since I didn’t have any other choice, I decided to tap my card and escorted her to the platform.
“You’re absolutely sure everything is going to be okay, right?”
She leaned over from the train, looking at me anxiously.
“Yes. You don’t need to worry that much. In fact, if your boyfriend ever dumps you, I’ll treat you to whatever you want! Come on! The train’s about to leave. Please step back.”
I gently guided her back into the train as the doors closed. She pressed herself against the door, still looking at me anxiously, so I smiled and shouted to her.
“Don’t worry! Everything will be fine!”
Finally relaxing, she smiled through the glass.
Darn it. That expression is so adorable.
As the train began to move, her smiling figure waving goodbye slowly became smaller. Standing alone on the platform, I watched the train carrying a girl I didn’t even know the name of disappeared into the tracks.
“Ahh~ I’m really jealous of that girl’s boyfriend…”

Monday. The start of the week.
After finishing work, I walked down the stairs at the station like usual. I sighed and slumped my shoulders.
“Haa… I should’ve asked for that girl’s contact information at least…”
I never thought I’d be thinking about her smile even while working. I had been feeling restless the whole time for these past three days. She had clearly told me she wasn’t interested in an old man like mem and I knew I would never see her again, so I didn’t even ask for her contact information. But now… I truly regretted my action. Well, even if I had asked for her contact information, she would probably say,”You disgusting old man! Euw!” Yeah, she would refuse to give it to me for sure.
…Then again, I’m not an old man though….
I shook my head as I reached the end of the stairs. I really had to let it go. There was no point dwelling on something that was already in the past.
Besides, think about it logically. A girl that cute would never be interested in someone who’s 10 years older than her. Especially someone who looks like just another average office worker like me. She even said she’s head over heels for her boyfriend. Also, I don’t think I even know how to handle a gyaru. I mean, those girls are like a completely different species to me. Yeah. This is for the best.
“Alright.”
I said, forcing myself to accept it and took a step forward. But then, I noticed something.
“Huh? Wait… Someone is there…”
There was someone peeking out from behind a pillar. Upon closer inspection, that someone turned out to be the girl I had been thinking about. She was wearing teh same uniform I had first seen her. Her skirt was as short as before. Her blonde hair was adorned with pink highlights. She was truly the epitome of a beautiful gyaru. Her eyes darted around restlessly until they landed on mine.
“Ah!! There you are!!”
Huh? What’s this… Deja vu?
Just like last week, the gyaru strode over to me with long, confident steps.
Huh??? Again???
Clearly upset, she stormed right up to me. She placed her hands on her hips and raised her voice at me.
“Hey!”
“Ye-Yes!”
“I got dumped by my boyfriend!”
“…What?”
“Like I said!! He broke up with me!! Old man, you need to take responsibility for that!”
“…”
Huh? Seriously?

Oh man, please just grow a pair, I’m begging you. You ain’t even a virgin, you’re literally one step ahead of me and countless others who will never act like this for a girl they don’t even know. I get that you’re down bad, it happens. We’ve all been there, but c’mon just have a little bit of dignity, yeah?
There is fantasy and then there is fantastical without a shred of real world logic. Guess what this is 😏
