- The Most Beautiful Girl in School Has Become a Mother
- Chapter 32: Two People Emitting Negative Ions
As promised, we ended up spending our lunch break with the four of us—Miori, Sumomo, Shinya, and me.
I hadn’t brought my lunch, so I asked the three of them to reserve a spot on the rooftop for me and headed to the school store to buy some bread.
At the school store, due to it being Monday, a fierce battle for bread was unfolding. New weekly special breads were introduced on Mondays, attracting a crowd of students eager to get their hands on them.
For the purchasing group, it’s a bothersome situation. The purchasing group has some circumstances that prevent them from having their parents make them lunch, so obtaining bread for lunch is essentially a matter of life and death for them. Our true feelings were that if there were other options, we would prefer them to take those.
By the way, if I make a mistake here, I’ll end up having to eat a disgusting bread called Uni Banana Bread, whose ingredients are completely unknown. To get through the afternoon classes, I absolutely cannot lose this competition.
That said, for someone like me who gets bread almost every day from the school store, it’s not that difficult. As long as I don’t mess up the initial spot, I’m already well aware that I can buy the bread I want without any issues.
I overcame the fierce competition and headed to the rooftop with great pride.
──Huh, I wonder why I feel so good.
Suddenly, I noticed that my steps towards the rooftop were light. Usually, even when I get the bread I was aiming for, I don’t feel this happy.
Well, whatever, I climbed the stairs to the rooftop and opened the iron door.
There were many people on the rooftop. During the spring season, this place is most often used for lunch. In just a little over a month, when it gets hot, the number of people will drastically decrease.
While various people from first to third year were having lunch on the rooftop, in one corner, Miori and Sumomo were sitting across from each other with three bento boxes between them. Shinya was sitting in the space between the two, forming a triangle.
While Miori was looking down shyly, Sumomo was looking happy. And Shinya was astonished.
“Oh, I see! Mi-chan, you took on the role of Sanada’s sister’s ‘mom,’ huh?”
“Y-yeah…”
“Wow, this is so wonderful! Yes, yes!”
Apparently, Miori had already explained our relationship to them. I should have explained it myself, but I ended up causing them trouble.
Or rather, it’s probably because there are three of us now that we can’t help but say it.
“Does that mean you played the role of a mother… Did you go to Isaki’s house, Imiya?!”
“Huh? Yeah. I went yesterday and the day before.”
“Moreover, back-to-back on the weekend?! T-This is a huge deal…”
For some reason, Shinya is feeling down.
“What? You were after Mi-chan?”
“Hey, aim──!?”
“You’re wrong, idiot!”
Miori, bewildered by Sumomo’s nonsensical retort, and Shinya, who firmly denies it.
“I’ve never been to Isaki’s house either, but I was jealous! Just because Shuri-chan is there, she won’t let me in!”
“Oh, over there…”
In response to Shinya’s answer, Sumomo looks bored.
As for her, would it have been more interesting if Shinya had been after Miori?
“Hey, Momo-chan? Isaki-kun isn’t targeting you or anything like that.”
Miori firmly denies her words as well.
When I was denied to that extent, it was a bit sad. Well, I wasn’t aiming for it anyway. I didn’t think it would reach even if I aimed for it.
“Oh, I see. So it’s not Sanada who’s after it, but Mi-chan who’s after it, huh?”
“──!? Ugh, Momo-chan, you idiot! I don’t care anymore!”
When Sumomo said it with a mischievous smile, Miori’s face turned bright red with anger. As for Shinya, he was somehow feeling down, saying, “That’s a big deal in itself…”
It seems that we have arrived at a rather inconvenient time. It’s hard to get in.
“Ah… should I have spent a bit more time elsewhere?”
“No way, not at all. It’s just getting interesting now, right, Imiya?”
Shinya, getting carried away, tried to tease, but when Miori sent him a piercing gaze that seemed to scold him, he let out a small yelp, “Eep!”
“Come on, Dad is next to Mom, come on, come on.”
“Don’t call me ‘dad.'”
As always, Sumomo, full of energy to play, pushes me from behind and makes me sit next to Miori.
“You were late.”
When she made eye contact with Miori, she let out a small sigh of relief and then lowered the corners of her eyes.
It’s a face that says, “I’m glad you came.” They must have been bombarded with questions by these two the whole time.
“The store is always crowded. It’s always a life-or-death battle.”
I showed off my prize, the savory bread, and said.
A katsu sandwich, a yakisoba bun, and a croquette bun. With just these, it should last until dinner.
“Isaki-kun, do you always have bread from the school store for lunch?”
“Ah, yeah. I don’t have much time in the morning because I have to take Shuri to school.”
“I see…”
Miori seemed like she wanted to say something, but in the end, she didn’t say anything more.
“Hey, hey, isn’t this really nice?”
“Yeah, I’m pretty surprised too.”
In the corner of my vision, Shinya and Sumomo are whispering to each other.
From the current conversation, I would really like to hear in detail how we arrived at such a conclusion.
“Geez. You two, stop talking nonsense, and let’s have lunch, okay? I’m starving.”
Miori turned to face us, a troubled smile on her face, and said, “Right?”
Those troubled eyebrows are so cute that I can’t help but smile.
“I wonder… What is this aura that makes me want to watch over them? Negative ions?”
“I understand, I felt the same way too.”
Sumomo and Shinya are still saying things that make no sense, but for now, the first lunch break spent together by the four of us has begun.
