- The Most Beautiful Girl in School Has Become a Mother
- Chapter 31: A Morning Different From Usual
Once Sunday is over, it’s Monday, and since Monday isn’t a holiday, of course, there’s school.
This weekend, Miori came to our house as “Mom.” Thanks to her taking care of Shuri for two days, a lot of the household chores have been taken care of. This week, we should be able to spend more time relaxing than usual.
That said, she only plays the role of “mom” on weekends. This weekend did indeed change dramatically, but I thought that starting Monday, it would return to normal days.
“Good morning, Isaki-kun.”
After dropping off Shuri at the daycare and heading to school, the most beautiful girl in the school, Imiya Miori, called out to me.
“Eh, Miori!? G-Good morning.”
I also returned greetings, but it’s needless to say that I stuttered a bit.
But, isn’t that right? It’s unimaginable that she would be the one to start a conversation.
“The omurice was delicious, wasn’t it?”
“Ah, yeah. It was super delicious.”
“About the honey already?”
“I won’t make fun of you, I’m sorry.”
While exchanging such conversations, we walk on the way to school.
Talking at home and talking on the way to school in the morning is definitely different. It’s all about the surrounding gazes.
Until now, Imiya Miori, who had hardly ever associated with male students, is now commuting to school with a male student. Moreover, we are calling each other by our names.
There’s no way this wouldn’t attract attention. At first, I wondered how it would go, but since Miori naturally called me by my name, I had no choice but to naturally call her by her name in return.
Moreover, it’s somehow unfamiliar to call her by her last name at school and by her first name at home, and I think I’ve probably called her by her first name more times than her last name just this weekend. When it comes to that, calling each other by our first names feels more natural for both of us.
I was planning to go along with her if she called me by my last name, but she called me by my first name without hesitation, which surprised me. I thought there might be some prior discussion like, “How should we address each other?” but apparently, she had already made up her mind.
By the way, since my bad friend, Matani Shinya, was about to talk to me, but Miori spoke to me first, Shinya dropped the can of coffee he was holding when he saw us.
From a certain point, Suzuta Momone also entered my peripheral vision, but her reaction was similar to Shinya’s. With a startled expression, she approached Shinya, who had been following us with a watchful eye, and they started whispering to each other.
However, they never spoke to us during our commute to school. Whether they were being considerate of us or perhaps holding back out of respect for the cheerful conversation with Miori, was unclear.
The topics of conversation varied, including Shuri, cooking, and school.
However, perhaps because we spent the entire weekend together, our conversation flowed naturally. I no longer feel nervous in front of her like I used to. Even though I see her wearing my apron and standing in the kitchen in my own house, what is there to be nervous about now?
──Wait, huh? Isn’t this like the ultimate “living the life” school entrance?
Walking to school in the morning with a girl. That was the high school life I had somehow dreamed of.
Because of Shuri, I thought I was completely unrelated to such a life. However, it was strange that it was Shuri who became the catalyst for my school attendance.
Moreover, the other person is Imiya Miori, whom I had secretly admired. I can’t help but be grateful to Shuri. Well, as a trade-off, I ended up being the center of everyone’s astonished and surprised gazes.
By the way, Miori didn’t seem to care about those gazes at all. She didn’t appear embarrassed or look around to see if anyone was watching.
Seeing that she didn’t mind even when eating a crepe, it could be that she doesn’t usually care much about people’s gazes, or that she’s just gotten used to being watched all the time.
From the school route to the entrance, and then to the classroom, it was just the two of us, me and Miori. Naturally, the moment we entered the classroom together, we were met with startled glances from our classmates, and I felt a mix of awkwardness and a bit of pride, a complex feeling.
“Well then, see you later.”
Miori smiled at me with just her eyes and said that then went to her seat.
When I tried to head to my seat as well, suddenly an arm wrapped around my neck and started to tighten.
“Ugh! It’s, it’s so painful!”
“Well, well, Isaki-kun. Putting aside the pain for now, why don’t you come over here for a bit?”
“Shall I?”
The attackers are Shinya and Sumomo, who must have been waiting for me to part ways with Miori. They grab my shoulder and drag me to the corner of the classroom.
“Shall I ask what this is all about?”
“Shall I ask you?”
The tone itself seems friendly, but the face isn’t smiling.
“Shut up! Don’t listen to anything!”
“Hey, hey, isn’t this a bit much given the situation? You ignored me LIME, and now you’re calling her by her name and holding hands as you walk to school together after the weekend?”
“We’re not holding hands!”
If even one of these rumors is added, the story will keep growing, so I must deny what needs to be denied.
Speaking of which, I received a LIME message from Shinya saying “I have something to ask” around Saturday evening. On Saturday, after coming home, Miori came over, and I was overwhelmed with Shuri’s situation, so I couldn’t deal with it then.
I noticed the message last night. In the end, I was tired yesterday too, so I just went to bed without replying.
“That’s quite an impressive development, isn’t it? Hey, what kind of tricks did you pull? Just the fact that Mi-chan went home with a boy and ate crepes is a huge deal, and now you’re saying you went to school together? What’s going on?”
“Hehehe,” Sumomo asks with a greedy grin.
According to them, it seems that on Saturday afternoon, everyone was talking about how I had eaten crepes with Miori the day before.
Perhaps, Shinya’s “thing he wanted to ask” was that too.
“Ugh, noisy. There’s no progress at all. Besides, Sumomo should just ask Miori directly about the situation.”
“I’m asking you because I can’t ask her! Since Mi-chan never had any romantic stories like this, I don’t know what to do either! And you’re casually calling her by her name!”
Somehow, Sumomo seems to be angry. Or rather, is she confused?
Perhaps the reason the two didn’t talk to us in the morning wasn’t because they were being considerate, but because they were too confused and didn’t know what to do.
“What kind of trick did you use? Money? Was it money?”
“Or is it black magic or hypnosis? Tell me!”
I feel like I’ve been told something incredibly rude, but there’s nothing I can say about it.
To put it bluntly, Shuri’s magic is everything. In that sense, it might be closer to black magic.
As I was pondering how to respond, I heard a voice from behind me.
“Momo-chan, Isaki-kun? And Matani-kun too. What are the three of you doing together?”
At that voice, Sumomo and Shinya were startled and turned around.
Behind them stood the most beautiful girl in the school, Imiya Miori. She was frowning, looking at Shinya and Sumomo with suspicion.
“Uh, um, so, today, we’re talking about how cute Mi-chan is, right?”
“Y-yeah, right? Hey, Sumomo?”
The two of them look at each other and nod in agreement. Can’t they come up with a better excuse?
“…What does that story have to do with bringing Isaki-kun to a place like this?”
Miori stares intently at Sumomo.
It seems to have a somewhat accusatory connotation.
──Huh…? Could it be that you’re covering for me?
From Miori’s expressions and actions, it can be interpreted that way.
Shinya was giving a look to Sumomo who seemed to say, “Hey, what are you going to do about this?” Yes, it didn’t make sense that Miori was dragging me into a corner of the classroom today, saying something cute, and interrogating me.
“Th-That is, um… yes! I was thinking, ‘How about having lunch together with such a cute Mi-chan?’ and I invited Sanada! Right, right!?”
Sumomo is making a desperate excuse, winking at me with one eye, sending some kind of message.
Since Miori was staring at me intently as if to confirm my true intentions, I had no choice but to nod silently.
Seeing that, she murmured, “I see,” and her expression softened.
“Well then, starting today… shall we have lunch together?”
The smile that she showed me yesterday was directed at me, and for a moment, I was at a loss for words, but then I nodded vigorously again. Meanwhile, Shinya and Sumomo, who were watching Miori, were frozen in place as if they had turned to stone.
Thus, it was due to the lie that Sumomo desperately told that the four of us ended up forming a group to spend time together at school.
