Episode 11: The Start of the Competition

The second year students of the Academy of Magic were gathered in a hall in the school building.
There was a lot of empty space, and the walls and ceiling of the room were completely white.
“It may look like an ordinary room, but this is definitely the venue for your upcoming competition.”
When Ms. Maguire poked the floor with her wand, the surrounding space, which should have been completely white, collapsed and began to reconstruct itself into a new shape altogether.
And before I knew it, the hall had turned into a desert-like area.
What used to be the floor beneath my feet had become part of the sandy earth, and the sensations I could feel were very realistic.
“What, where is this?”
“OH, I got some sand in my eyes.”
Ms. Maguire explained the situation to the upset students.
“We’ve introduced a new technology on campus because it’s too much trouble to move from one place to another. This barrier allows us to recreate the place we imitated outside just by attaching it to the wall. In this way, we can hold a large-scale competition within the school without actually going outside.”
She said this as if it were something obvious, but it’s a really amazing technology.
As expected, this was the best school in the world.
“I’ll be handing out these crystals to each of you, one per group.”
When Ms. Maguire snapped her fingers, a crystal appeared in the hands of the representative of each group.
“In this game, each team has to destroy each other’s crystals in order to win. Once a crystal is destroyed, that team is disqualified, and the team that survives to the end is the winner. This is an exercise in case you are sent into a real battle, so take it seriously.”
It fit right into the palm of my hand.
By the way, the representative of my group is of course Dorothy, so I left the management of the crystal to her.
If I was the one who had it, I’m sure that it would get destroyed immediately.
“Be spirited and work hard!”
Dorothy held my hand and moved close to my face. She was so close that I could feel her sweet breath falling on my face.
My heart was beating faster with every second passing by.
Her innocence, which goes beyond the charm of just a perfect beauty, made my heart pound to it’s breaking point.
“If you’re worried, you can come and hug me, okay? I’ll stroke your head until you calm down, Helios-kun.”
“That’s… I think that’s a bad idea so I’ll refrain from doing that…”
She spread her arms and smiled gently at me, but I resisted the temptation and refused her in the end.
Perhaps that was why she looked a little shocked and sad at my words.
(Shudder!!)
A combative Lute glared at me.
The students who were in the same group as him looked incomprehensible at his current look.
It’s a rare sight since he always has a harem following him around wherever he goes.
No, there’s only one girl in his current group, so we don’t know anything about them yet.
That’s because there’s no such thing as fairness when two people who have defeated a demon king are paired together, so what Ms. Maguire said the other day was probably right.
But the other party was a man who displayed a hero’s role.
Even if Dorothy, the strongest sorceress, is on my side, I can’t imagine how we would win against him.
I just pray that I won’t be targeted immediately.
There were fifteen teams in total.
We had to split up in an environment within the space that Ms. Maguire had recreated, and waited until it was time for the competition to start.
We were heading west to get away from the desert area when we arrived at a forest.
I decided to take a break there with Dorothy, feeling lucky that we didn’t encounter any other groups on the way.
