- Chapter 69: The Villainess and the OlderSister - Part 2
“You two seem like such good siblings.”
Sayaka-san watched us with a face that seemed as though she was looking at something profoundly beautiful.
However, her expression also carried a hint of envy… I think that was something my sister picked up on too.
“What are you even saying? Right, Kyoya?”
“Yeah, exactly.”
Both Mio-nee and I likely had the same thought in our minds.
Sayaka-san, on the other hand, appeared a little puzzled.
“It’s true that we’re siblings, but there’s no reason for you to feel out of place, Hosho-san.”
“Out of place? I’m not feeling—”
“Oh? Is that so? Well, that’s good then.” Mio-nee smiled knowingly before continuing, “So, this is a request from me: take your time if you need to, but I’d like you two to talk about many things moving forward. Share your worries, have your disagreements, and slowly, step by step, become a part of Kyoya’s family.”
“As long as this arrangement continues, I’ll be his fiancée, and one day, I’ll become his wife—a part of his family. I… don’t really know much about liking or loving someone yet, but I do hope to eventually become family.”
She was honest about that, huh? Not knowing if she liked me or not… well, wasn’t that fine for now? Honestly, I didn’t know either.
“There’s no need to try too hard. So, do you dislike him?”
Mio-nee looked at Sayaka-san with amusement.
“No, I don’t dislike him.”
She didn’t dislike me, huh? It was a strange feeling. Especially considering how, at the start, she made no effort to hide her dislike for me. I kind of knew her attitude had changed from her actions, but hearing it said aloud really made a difference.
“Then that’s fine, isn’t it? Take your time—your feelings and your connection as a family can grow at their own pace. There’s no need to force it. Besides, Kyoya will figure things out somehow.”
“Take my time…”
“Well, sometimes things change all of a sudden too, so who knows what might happen. But as long as there’s nothing urgent, why not just proceed at your own pace?”
“I understand… It’s late, but as his fiancée, I promise to stay by his side. I look forward to what lies ahead.”
“And I, as his sister, welcome you. At least for now, let me greet you as such.”
As a sister?
For some reason, Sayaka-san seemed to understand and replied with a quick, “Is that so?”
“I understand. I look forward to your guidance and support moving forward.”
“Not that there’s much to guide you with. If anything, I could teach you Kyoya’s favorite home-cooked meals, maybe?”
“Do you even have that many recipes?”
Thinking back, her cooking always felt like it was just good enough—nothing extraordinary.
“Don’t say unnecessary things, Kyoya!”
Still, I wouldn’t mind eating Mio-nee’s cooking again. It’d been over a year since I’d last had it.
“By the way, Onee-sama, didn’t you have something to discuss?”
“—Mio-onee-sama!”
Mio-nee suddenly let out a shout.
“Since you’re Kyoya-san’s sister, I thought it would be appropriate to call you that. Or would Mio-sama be better?”
“No, no, Onee-sama is fine! In fact, I like it—there’s an air of high society about it!”
That mindset of hers felt very much like an ordinary person’s, though. Also, the two of them were in the same school year, which made this whole dynamic a little odd.
“I’m glad to hear that.”
See? Sayaka-san looked a little taken aback by her reaction.
“Then I’ll call you Hosho-chan… Wait, no, that feels too distant. Maybe Sayaka-san… Hmm, no, that’s distant too. Alright, Saya-chan! How about Saya-chan?”
“I-I don’t mind at all.”
Mio-nee’s way of closing the distance was amazing. The careful rapport I spent over a month building was just obliterated in seconds.
“Great! Oh, and standing around talking like this seems rude. Let’s sit down. Saya-chan, come over here!”
Mio-nee gestured for Sayaka-san to sit beside her.
“Ah, alright.”
It was rare to see Sayaka-san, who usually exuded an intimidating aura, being completely overwhelmed and dominated like this. Mio-nee’s presence utterly nullified her usual commanding energy.
“Wait, Saya-chan.”
“Y-Yes?”
Sayaka-san tensed up slightly.
Even I was a little nervous about what Mio-nee might say next. I was reasonably sure it wouldn’t be too bad, but still…
“Saya-chan, your skin is beautiful. So smooth and radiant—your makeup must go on flawlessly. What’s your secret? Tell me!”
Mio-nee was looking at her with the most serious expression she had shown all day.
“Uh, um… I don’t do anything special. I just use the lotion, serum, and moisturizer made by the Hosho family. I’m not sure if it would suit you, but would you like to try it?”
“Saya-chan, I love you!!”
I think it would be fair to say Mio-nee’s sheer enthusiasm overwhelmed her.
“H-hmph…”
And then Mio-nee hugged Sayaka-san tightly. Honestly, my sister amazed me sometimes.
“Your skin is so soft and springy, and you even smell amazing. Hey, can I touch your boobs a little?”
“Stop harassing her!”
You’re going way too far! Your sense of boundaries is completely broken!
“What’s this now? Are you starting to feel possessive, thinking Saya-chan’s boobs are yours or something?”
Don’t coyly tilt your head and act like I’m the weird one here!
“I never said anything like that!”
Stop making up things! And quit poking her so casually—don’t just prod at her like that!
If I kept letting Mio-nee control the pace, this was going to spiral out of hand.
“Sa-Sayaka-san, didn’t you mention something earlier? Something about my sister, or whatever it was?”
It seemed like Sayaka-san, overwhelmed by the chaos of Mio-nee’s energy, had lost her moment to speak. Grateful for the opening, she seized the chance to start talking.
“That’s right. Kyoya-san, though Onee-sama already knows, I wanted to tell you: it seems like your sister might be discharged from the hospital soon.”
What?!
“Really? Is that true?”
“It’s what the doctors said, assuming her condition keeps improving like this.”
“Don’t get your hopes up too much,” Mio-nee said, waving her hand dismissively, a slight blush of embarrassment on her face.
But this was fantastic news!
“Wow, that’s amazing. I’m so glad to hear it!”
I couldn’t help but beam at the thought of such good news.
“It’s not decided yet, though,” Mio-nee cautioned.
“I know, I get it.”
“Do you really?”
Now that I looked closely, it did feel like Mio-nee’s complexion was much better. She was trying to mask it, but I could tell she was happy.
“When you’re discharged, please share lots of stories with us at home.”
“If that happens, I will. Right, Kyoya?”
“Uh, what is it?”
Mio-nee was smiling that particular smile of hers. I knew what this meant. It was the same expression she always made when she was about to deflect attention to someone else. A very bad feeling crept up on me.
“Kyoya, isn’t Saya-chan much nicer than what you said about her before?”
“What? What did Kyoya-san say about me? Now I’m curious,” Sayaka-san joined in, sensing a chance to shift the focus away from herself.
“Uh… what did I say, again?”
I tried my best to dodge the question.
“You said something like, ‘a failed matchmaking with a weird girl who’s pretty but has an eccentric personality,’ didn’t you?”
“Hey, I didn’t say it like that! I just said her personality was a little unique, and I even mentioned how her features were beautiful! I didn’t say anything that weird or inappropriate!”
“But you did say her personality was unique, right?”
My evasion technique failed me.
“…I did.”
“Well, well, so you really did,” Mio-nee said with a teasing smirk, while Sayaka-san feigned shock, dramatically exclaiming, “Oh my!”
“Not that I blame you for thinking that,” Sayaka-san began calmly, now back to her usual composed demeanor.
“At the time, I fully expected the engagement to be broken off, and truthfully, my behavior was far from commendable. Given how I acted back then, your assessment was probably accurate. If anything, I’m more impressed that you didn’t give up and kept going, Kyoya-san.”
It was all for Mio-nee’s sake, so I really didn’t mind.
“Please tell me more about your impressions from the beginning. Kyoya doesn’t talk much about it.”
“Sure, though it’s a bit embarrassing for me, I’ll share it as a sort of confession,” Sayaka-san said with grace and started recounting details from their initial meeting.
Sayaka-san really was a skilled storyteller. With her vividly describing past events, she even tied in recent happenings, narrating fluently and connecting everything seamlessly.
By the time Sayaka-san finished talking, the surroundings outside had grown dark.
“What a dramatic January it’s been,” Mio-nee remarked with a deep sense of reflection.
“Well, both of you, good job. You worked really hard!”
With a warm smile, Mio-nee nodded like a saint blessing us.
“But I’m definitely more curious now about the other fiancées.”
“They’re all great people. Maybe a bit peculiar, like me, but they have their charms.”
Sayaka-san said this with a slight chuckle, though I could tell she was subtly holding onto her earlier comment about her “peculiarity”.
“Well, I look forward to getting a chance to talk with the rest of the fiancées someday.”
I didn’t know if that was going to happen… Well, with Tachibana-san, it might be manageable.
“If Kyoya is too slow to get along with them…”
“Too slow, then what?”
There was something ominous about this.
“I’ll just have to go meet them myself.”
She smiled mischievously, like a little devil.
The thought of Mio-nee casually chatting with them was terrifying. Who knew what embarrassing things she might reveal? I needed to make an effort to get along with them myself.
After that, we continued chatting idly for a while. Eventually, recognizing how late it was, Sayaka-san and I decided to head home together.
“Kyoya, hold on a second.”
“Huh?”
“What’s with that clueless look? I haven’t given you your lecture yet.”
She didn’t forget… I was hoping to sneak away unnoticed.
“Sa-Saya—”
“I’ll wait in the car,” Sayaka-san interrupted. “Once you’re done, please come over. Thank you for taking the time despite your condition. I deeply appreciate everything, and I look forward to your continued support.”
“And I look forward to seeing you again too,” Mio-nee replied with a dazzling smile.
Sayaka-san quickly exited the room, leaving behind only Mio-nee and me.
“Um… Mio-nee?”
“Shall we have a chat?”
I got properly scolded for all of my previous antics.
Whenever Mio-nee got mad, she really was scary.
