The Price For My Sister.
“Hey, hey, wake up, kid… wake up!”
A voice, unfamiliar and whispering in his ear.
“Uwaa… uhhhh.”
As Peter opened his heavy eyelids, he instinctively gasped, “Hah!” A pale face loomed close, a stranger boy hovering over him.
As Peter stiffened and glanced around, he found himself still on the familiar sofa in the living room, the same as before he dozed off.
“W-Who…?”
The reality that a stranger was in his home filled Peter with fear, and he managed to squeeze out that voice, but the boy showed no sign of responding.
“Um… um…”
Interrupting Peter’s words, the boy muttered softly, “I have money to give you. It’s from the master… for your sister.”
With striking silver hair and eyes like glass marbles, the boy placed a heavy leather bag on Peter’s chest, stating, “I-I have certainly given it to you, given it… you know,” while looking off to an unfocused point. He then sprang up with the agility of a cat and left the room, further hunching his terrible posture.
Left behind, Peter sat for a while in confusion, unsure of what had just happened. But suddenly snapping back to reality, he dashed out of the room with the leather bag in hand.
“Sister! A strange guy just came into the house!”
Despite his desperate cries, no one answered his calls.
“Sister! Where are you?!”
Rushing through every door in the house, the young Peter searched for his sister.
“Sister! Sister!”
Just as he was about to burst into tears, Peter bolted out the front door, where he saw a familiar figure entering the gate.
“Uncle Toruk!”
“Young master? What’s the matter, looking so flustered?”
Seeing a familiar face brought Peter a moment of relief.
“S-Someone strange was just in the house without permission…”
“A strange person, you say?”
“Yeah, he said it was for my sister’s payment and left this!”
Peter exclaimed, holding up the leather bag.
Instantly, Toruk froze in place.
“He truly said it was for your sister’s payment?”
“Yeah!”
“Well, that’s quite… unexpected.”
“What should I do? Please, Uncle Toruk!”
Tears welled in Peter’s eyes as he clung to Toruk. Unbeknownst to him, the man’s gaze was fixated intently on the leather bag in Peter’s hands.
