Chapter 122 Blue Pendant
Medes officially appointed Lizetta as the leader of the countermeasures against the “Spirit Workshop.”
With approval and budget for forming an appraiser team, Lizetta gathered the appraisers belonging to the guild for a meeting.
(Finally, my chance for redemption has come. If I succeed with this project, it’s not a dream to rise to the top of the Quartet.)
Indeed, if she succeeded in training adventurers, her influence within the guild would grow, and she could take on a leadership role even over the other alchemists and the Quartet.
(I have to thank Laurent. After all, he’s given me the chance to surpass even Raoul.)
Lizetta recalled her interactions with Laurent at the “Spirit Workshop” and her own words:
“If you ever manage to create equipment better than mine, I’ll gladly transfer to your guild.”
(Well, I did lose once already… but that doesn’t count, it doesn’t count. It’s unfair for an appraiser to train adventurers. This time, I’ll fight fair and square under equal conditions.)
Fortunately, the guild had three A-class appraisers, who, dissatisfied with their low standing within the guild, were willing to cooperate with Lizetta’s project.
At the meeting, Lizetta confirmed the focus on adventurer training and immediately proposed the project to her clients, “Winged Dragon’s Torch.”
The leader of “Winged Dragon’s Torch,” Ike Belford, accepted her proposal without hesitation.
“To think we’d get a chance to take revenge on the ‘Spirit Workshop’ so soon. This is a rare opportunity. I’d be happy to cooperate with your plan.”
Upon appraising Ike, the appraisers quickly found potential for growth.
[Ike Belford’s Skills]
Spear Technique: B → A
“Hmm, we’ve found something, Lizetta. His skill ‘Spear Technique’ holds the potential to reach A-class.”
Thus, they agreed to focus on advancing Ike to an A-class Lancer and raising all members of ” Winged Dragon’s Torch ” to B-class adventurers.
That night, Lilianne spent time in Laurent’s room.
After being physically close and enjoying herself in Laurent’s arms for the first time in a while, she was now being held by him from behind.
As Laurent stroked her hair and whispered words of love, she felt incredibly happy.
“Lily, you did so well,” he praised her.
Lilianne basked in his embrace for a while, entranced. But suddenly, her expression became pained, and she started to weep softly.
“What’s wrong, Lily?” Laurent asked.
“It’s nothing,” she replied, but the tears kept falling.
“Here we are, together, and you’re so sad. I won’t know unless you tell me.”
“Well, I have to return to the ‘Adventurers’ Town’ soon. When that happens, we won’t be able to see each other for a while, will we?”
“…”
“I’m happy now, but the happier I am, the harder it will be when we have to part,” Lilianne said, wiping her tears away.
“I’m sorry. I got a little sentimental. I’m not blaming you for staying on ‘Fire Dragon Island.’ Please, do your best at work.”
“Lily, I have something for you,” Laurent said, taking a small box from a nearby shelf and handing it to her.
“What’s this?”
“Open it.”
When Lilianne opened the box, she found a beautiful blue gemstone pendant inside.
“Wow, it’s beautiful. What is this?”
The gemstone looked like a sapphire, but its brilliance was deeper and more dazzling.
“This is a special sapphire created by the ‘Fire Breath’ of the ‘Giant Fire Dragon Grand Fafnir.’ It’s also known as the ‘Dragon’s Tear.’ Even on this island, where a variety of ores are abundant, it’s a rare find. I asked our alchemist to turn it into a pendant. While I’m away, think of this pendant as me.”
“Yes… Thank you,” Lilianne said, gently caressing the pendant with affection.
The pendant reflected the moonlight, emitting a soft, gentle glow.
The next morning, as Lilianne prepared to leave the island, she went around to say goodbye to the alchemists of the “Spirit’s Workshop” branch who had helped her.
She also stopped by to see Aina.
“Aina, thank you for your help during the ‘Flood Dragon’ subjugation. Even though the quest came up suddenly, you managed to prepare the equipment for me…”
“Oh, no, no, it’s nothing. It’s our job to prepare the equipment,” Aina replied.
“As a small token of my appreciation, I’ve left some ‘Dragon Tea’ and sweets in the break room. Please enjoy them with everyone.”
“Thank you so much, that’s very kind of you…”
Aina’s eyes were drawn to the pendant hanging around Lilianne’s neck.
“Oh, that pendant…”
“Oh, this? Laurent gave it to me last night…”
“Did he? I made that pendant,” Aina said.
“Really? I thought it was an exceptional piece. As expected of an A-class alchemist. I’ll be able to show it off in the ‘Adventurers’ Town’ since it was made by the best alchemist on this island.”
“Oh, no, it’s nothing like that. When are you leaving for the ‘Adventurers’ Town’?”
“I’m planning to board the afternoon ship today.”
“I see. That’s a bit sad, though. You’ll be separated from Laurent.”
“Yes, it is,” Lilianne said, looking downcast.
“Laurent’s work on this island doesn’t seem like it will be finished anytime soon, and when I get back to the ‘Adventurers’ Town,’ I’ll be swamped with work. The thought of not seeing him for a while makes me feel so gloomy. I understand how unpredictable things are here, but… I’m worried that Laurent’s heart might drift away from me.”
“Don’t worry. There aren’t many women as wonderful as you, Lilianne. Laurent wouldn’t dare cheat on you.”
“Thank you. Hearing that from you puts my mind at ease.”
“Hold your head high and wait in the ‘Adventurers’ Town.’ We’ll keep an eye on Laurent to make sure no bad influences get near him.”
“Thank you. Please take care of Laurent.”
“Of course, we will,” Aina assured her as she watched Lilianne leave the workshop.
Karla was lost in thought at her guild’s outpost.
Since joining the “Spirit’s Workshop” alliance, the guild’s perception of her had completely changed.
In the past, her companions had struggled with her frequent troublesome behavior, but after returning as a B-class swordsman, their attitudes toward her shifted entirely.
Now, she was in a position where she was frequently relied upon for various quests.
Despite living these days, where her comrades depended on her, there was an emptiness in her heart, a constant sense that something was missing.
No, she knew exactly what was missing.
The quests her guild offered were simply too unsatisfying.
As she went about completing these mundane quests, she couldn’t help but realize just how advanced Laurent’s leadership had been and how demanding his expectations were.
And Karla had generally met those expectations in her combat performance.
Just as her companions’ view of her had completely changed, so too had her perspective on the world around her.
Whenever she had free time, she would reminisce about the days she fought alongside Laurent and the others.
Even now, if she closed her eyes, she could vividly recall those moments.
Surrounded by powerful monsters, the tense atmosphere, the team on edge.
In such situations, even a moment’s hesitation could mean falling behind the others.
Karla would assess the enemy’s composition and the placement of her allies, instantly deciding how to move.
Leon was shouting orders.
Jeff was swiftly charging in.
Elio, despite his massive frame, was moving with sharp precision.
Cecil, in a perfect position, was skillfully alternating between healing magic and projectiles.
And Laurent was watching.
In that intense environment, under extreme pressure, Karla strangely felt no fear.
Sticking close behind the shield bearer, she would wait for the right moment to unleash her “Shadow Strike,” and at times, she would even leap over her comrades to deliver a devastating “Spinning Sword Dance.”
She never imagined she was capable of such advanced combat techniques.
Moreover, she felt that she still had room to grow.
Laurent had opened a new door for her.
Compared to the vast possibilities she glimpsed beyond that door, her familiar daily life before her now seemed somewhat dull and uninspiring.
“Everyone, something big has happened!”
A young member of the guild burst into the break room.
“What is it?”
“The ‘Spirit’s Workshop’ alliance has defeated the ‘Flood Dragon’!”
“What!? The ‘Flood Dragon’?”
“This is unbelievable.”
“They took down the ‘Flood Dragon,’ which even the external guilds have left unchecked for years…”
“The prestige of the ‘Spirit’s Workshop’ will surely rise even higher now.”
“What should we do? Should we consider forming a contract with the ‘Spirit’s Workshop’ as well?”
“Hmm…”
Karla stood up and dashed out of the break room.
“Karla?”
“Hey, where are you going?”
Without responding to the voices calling after her, Karla headed out into the street.
(“Where am I going? Isn’t it obvious?”)
Karla sprinted down the street, heading straight for the ‘Spirit’s Workshop.’
