Chapter 119 Cooperation with Lightning Attack
“In this dungeon, there are two types of monsters you need to watch out for.”
As Laurent led the group, he briefed Lilianne on the dungeon’s layout.
“One is the rock tribe. These monsters are clad in tough rock, giving them much higher defense than regular monsters.”
“Hmm, I see.”
“And the other is the dragon tribe. They’re powerful flying units that attack from the air with ‘Fire Breath.’ Even with your ability to float, you’ll have a hard time dealing with them.”
“Got it. They sound like tough opponents.”
“Yes. If the ‘Fire Dragon’ manages to position itself above our group, your ‘Lightning Strike’ will be almost useless.”
“My ‘Lightning Strike’ can only be directed downward, so it would endanger the entire team.”
“Now, here’s the question—how do we prevent the ‘Fire Dragon’ from getting above us?”
“Take it down before it gets close… right?”
“Correct. We need to spot the enemy before they spot us. That’s why we need to coordinate with archers, who excel at scouting. Ah, speak of the devil. It looks like Claire has spotted the ‘Fire Dragon.'”
A short distance ahead, arrows were being fired into the sky.
This was the signal that a group of monsters, including the ‘Fire Dragon,’ was approaching.
“Lily, try fighting the ‘Fire Dragon’ for now. I’ll support you.”
“Understood!”
Lilianne mounted her broomstick and floated up into the air.
A buzz spread through the group.
“Incredible! She’s really flying,” Leon exclaimed in amazement.
“Alright, Leon, Elio. Here’s what you need to keep in mind when fighting alongside Lily. While she has powerful skills like ‘Levitation’ and ‘Lightning Strike,’ she tends to be vulnerable when landing. Leon, you need to lead the fight while ensuring her landing spot is secure.”
“Got it.”
“Elio, focus on defense and hold back on ‘Shield Charge.’ This time, we’ll structure our attacks around Lily’s ‘Lightning Strike.'”
“Understood.”
“Will, Lana, I want you both to watch closely. You’ll be leading the rear guard one day, so observe how an A-Class mage like Lily operates and learn from it.”
“Okay.”
“Understood.”
As Lilianne flew toward the direction Claire had indicated, she soon encountered two ‘Fire Dragons.’
The moment one of the ‘Fire Dragons’ spotted Lilianne, it opened its mouth wide and unleashed a ‘Fire Breath.’
Lilianne swiftly dodged the incoming flames, positioned herself above the ‘Fire Dragon,’ and made the tip of her staff glow.
With a thunderous roar, the blackened ‘Fire Dragon’ plummeted straight to the ground.
(That’s one down. Now, where’s the other one…?)
The remaining ‘Fire Dragon,’ seemingly wary of Lilianne’s ‘Lightning Strike,’ kept its distance.
Lilianne tried to position herself above it, but the dragon wouldn’t allow it.
(Hmm, its agility is high. I can’t get above it. If I leave it be, it’ll take the air above our unit and neutralize my ‘Lightning Strike.’ What should I do?)
Lilianne glanced toward Laurent.
Laurent instantly understood her intent with just that look.
“Jeff, give Lily some support.”
“Alright, got it.”
Jeff maneuvered into the ‘Fire Dragon’s’ blind spot and attacked with his bow.
Enraged, the ‘Fire Dragon’ charged at Jeff.
Jeff began to run, leading the dragon away.
(Gotcha!)
Lilianne swiftly maneuvered above the ‘Fire Dragon’ and unleashed a ‘Lightning Strike.’
The ‘Fire Dragon’ plummeted helplessly to the ground.
After confirming the dragon was down, Lilianne flew right next to Jeff.
“Jeff, thank you. You really saved me.”
“Sure thing. How was my decoy move? Was it alright?”
“Yes, it was perfect.”
(Alright, I still have some magic power left. I can keep fighting for a bit longer.)
Meanwhile, the battle on the ground had begun.
Laurent had deployed the troops, engaging a mixed unit of ogres and wolves.
As Laurent’s team fought familiar monsters like ‘Goblins’ and ‘Orcs,’ a particularly large monster suddenly appeared behind them.
“What’s that?”
“That’s a ‘Rock Ogre!'”
A murmur of unease spread through the ranks.
“I’ve got this! I’m going in!”
Elio declared.
“Alright, switch positions, Elio.”
Leon seamlessly took Elio’s spot, executing a smooth switch.
In their unit, it was a basic rule that Elio would handle any high-attack monsters that appeared.
As Elio braced himself against the ‘Rock Ogre’s’ charge, he caught a glimpse of Lilianne out of the corner of his eye.
(Lilianne?)
“Elio, charge at the ‘Rock Ogre’ with your shield!”
Following Lilianne’s command, Elio used his ‘Shield Charge’ on the ‘Rock Ogre.’
The impact knocked the ‘Rock Ogre’ back, momentarily halting its movements.
Seizing the opportunity, Lilianne quickly slid above the ‘Rock Ogre’ and struck it with a ‘Lightning Strike.’
Struck by lightning all over its body, the ‘Rock Ogre’ crumpled to the ground.
(Was that a one-shot?)
Elio stood there, stunned.
“Alright, everyone! The most troublesome enemy is down. Just a bit more to go!” Lilianne encouraged the troops.
With her words, the unit was even more emboldened and surged forward, attacking the remaining monsters.
As Lilianne confirmed that the battle was nearly won, she headed toward the landing spot Laurent had prepared for her.
Laurent, ever vigilant, kept an eye on the entire army, overseeing everyone’s fight.
“Hmm. It really is reassuring to have you commanding, Laurent,” Lilianne remarked.
“Lilianne, you fought brilliantly as well. You’re incredible. It’s hard to believe you just joined us today. The way you coordinated with Jeff and Elio was so seamless, like you’ve always been part of this unit,” Laurent said, taking her hand to help her land.
“Hehe, thank you,” Lilianne replied with a smile, though she couldn’t help but look at Laurent’s face with some concern.
(An archer with exceptional tactical insight, a dependable shield bearer, a skilled swordsman with great leadership—this unit is incredibly well-trained. Except for the lack of A-class adventurers, they could easily match the main forces of the “Guardians of the Magic Tree.” And yet, even with all this power, they’re still struggling to win… The guild “White Wolf” that Laurent is up against must be truly formidable.)
Thanks in part to Lilianne, the “Spirit Workshop” alliance advanced through the dungeon with unstoppable momentum.
Soon, they reached the lake at the dungeon’s end, where the dragon that causes floods, the “Flood Dragon,” resided.
