Chapter 117 Ranju director
Aina looked intently at Ranju and the others.
(These people are from the headquarters of ‘Spirit Workshop’…)
Both Ranju and Arri appeared to be around her age.
Charl even looked like a young girl who hadn’t reached maturity yet.
“All three of them are A-class alchemists. Especially Charl, who is an S-class alchemist. They should be an inspiration for all of you.”
“S-class?”
“That little girl is…?”
A murmur spread among the staff.
“Rody.”
“Yes.”
“Show Charl and Arri around the workshop.”
“Understood.”
“Aina, come to the conference room. Ranju has something he wants to discuss.”
“Y-yes.”
“That’s all for now. Everyone, please return to your stations. Sorry for interrupting your work.”
The workers returned to their stations, and Laurent, Ranju, and Aina headed to the conference room.
“Alright.”
Aina spread out the documents she had pulled from the desk in the conference room.
“These are the accounts and various records of this workshop.”
Ranju started to go through the documents.
Ranju, who possessed the ‘Workshop Management’ A skill, could see more than just the numbers written in the documents.
“An alchemist with ‘Metal Shaping’ A and a unique skill, an alchemist with ‘Product Design’ A, an alchemist with high agility, two with unique skills, two night shift alchemists, and…”
Ranju looked up from the documents and grinned.
“…about one problem child. Is that about right?”
“Yeah, that’s exactly right. Impressive,” Laurent responded.
Aina’s eyes widened in surprise.
(Amazing. This person figured out everything about the workshop’s inner workings just by glancing at the documents.)
“But this Wayne guy…”
Ranju frowned as he looked back at the documents.
“He’s quite something. Does he think he won’t get caught doing all this reckless stuff?”
“That’s the tricky part. He’s good at sneaking around and causing trouble without getting caught,” Laurent explained.
“Haha, if he’s giving you that much trouble, he must be quite a handful,” Ranju laughed.
“It’s no laughing matter. He almost got me killed,” Laurent retorted.
“Well, if you’re that persistent about him, he must have potential, right?” Ranju asked.
“Yeah, he just woke up to his potential a little while ago,” Laurent replied, stopping his bitter smile to turn serious.
“Ranju, for the ‘Spirit Workshop’ branch to grow further, it needs to move to a larger workshop. Moving the workshop requires funds. To secure funding, we need to make the workshop’s books look presentable. Can you handle it?”
“Understood. I don’t know how much I can accomplish during my stay, but I’ll do my best,” Ranju assured him.
“Aina, stay close to Ranju and learn as much as you can from him.”
“Y-yes, understood,” Aina replied.
“Oh, this is the ‘Fire Spear,’ isn’t it?”
Charl’s eyes sparkled as she looked at the captured ‘Fire Spear.’
“That’s right. Impressive, huh? Our guild is the first to capture equipment from the Quartet,” Rody said as he placed the ‘Fire Spear’ on a low platform for Charl to see better.
“It truly is a magnificent piece of work, befitting one of the world’s leading alchemy guilds,” Charl said, her voice full of admiration.
Rody listened to Charl’s comments with amusement.
(She probably doesn’t even know how to evaluate the quality of equipment. Such a precocious child.)
When Rody looked back at Charl, she had moved away from the ‘Fire Spear’ and was sitting at a desk, quickly sketching on a piece of paper with a pencil.
“Already bored and drawing? What a restless child. What…!?”
Rody’s words caught in his throat when he saw what Charl was drawing.
She was creating a blueprint. The weapon’s dimensions, weight, materials, and manufacturing methods were all perfectly analyzed.
(The skill ‘Product Design’… and at a very high level. Is she also an A-class like me?)
“It’s done!” Charl announced, holding up the completed blueprint to Rody.
“As expected from equipment made by ‘Dragon’s Ember.’ You can see meticulous craftsmanship everywhere! However… I think our workshop could make even better products,” Charl said confidently.
Rody was stunned by Charl’s talent.
“Next, show me the ‘Dragonhead Gauntlet,’ please!”
Arri was visiting Lina’s smelting furnace.
The two girls were both quick to understand each other, and they soon hit it off. They shared stories about their respective skills and their positions in their workshops. From these conversations, they quickly found ways to work together, rapidly building a cooperative relationship.
In the afternoon, Ranju took charge of overseeing the workshop.
He reorganized the layout to ensure efficient movement of people and materials, drew lines with paint, eliminated hazards, renovated the production line, and improved the workflow.
“Rody, if you change this part of the blueprint, you can reduce costs,” Ranju said.
“Oh, right,” Rody replied.
“Aize, if you switch the order of these tasks, you can do it faster,” Ranju suggested.
“Oh, I see,” Aize responded.
“Pat, if you attach this material to the walls of the ‘Tuning Room,’ the sound will be clearer. So, let’s rewallpaper it,” Ranju instructed.
“Understood,” Pat said.
“And this room will be used by both Charl for ‘Spirit Infusion’ in the morning and afternoon. Can we arrange that?” Ranju asked.
“Got it,” Pat agreed.
“Arri, the arrangement of the ore warehouse should be like the headquarters. Can you change it later with Lina?” Ranju requested.
“Understood,” Arri replied.
“Wayne, what’s with this scrap metal? Leaving it here is dangerous!” Ranju scolded.
“I know, I know. Stop yelling,” Wayne grumbled.
“Then do it before I have to tell you!” Ranju retorted.
The workshop members quickly realized that Ranju was a meticulous manager who wouldn’t overlook any negligence.
A sense of tension filled the workshop, and the staff focused intently on their tasks.
(With Ranju here, the atmosphere tightens up. This moderate tension enhances the overall environment. He’ll elevate this workshop to a higher level in no time,) Laurent thought, satisfied with the change in the workshop.
“It seems the workshop’s issues are being resolved. Oh, this tea is delicious,” Lilianne said, sipping dragon tea in the cafeteria.
“Yeah. It’s really easy with Ranju around. I’m reminded of his value,” Laurent replied.
“Then, all that’s left is to train the adventurers,” Lilianne noted.
“Exactly. But the locals on this island aren’t easy to handle,” Laurent said.
“Even someone like you can’t make them A-class adventurers? They have the potential, don’t they?” Lilianne asked.
“Yes, but the problem is their mindset. The adventurers from this island are intimidated by those from outside and focus on self-preservation. In the ‘Adventurer’s Town,’ everyone was more ambitious and driven,” Laurent explained.
“I see. It’s about their mindset,” Lilianne said.
“Yes, and that’s the real challenge,” Laurent admitted.
Laurent gazed pensively outside.
Lilianne looked at Laurent with a sense of melancholy.
It had been several months since she started serving as guild master, and she had grown accustomed to her duties. Surprisingly, she was performing her tasks quite well. Although she was leading a fulfilling life, there was always something missing—someone to praise her.
This time, she visited the island ostensibly to inspect Laurent’s situation, but in truth, she hoped to find a moment to be doted upon by Laurent again.
In bed, she often ended up on top of Laurent, but he would always gently stroke her head and say, “You did well.” Those moments allowed her to escape all the burdens of the mundane world and fall into a peaceful sleep.
However, now that she had come to see Laurent, he seemed too busy to pay her any attention.
(Laurent looks busy. I shouldn’t trouble him with my selfishness. I have to hold back.)
But the more she thought that, the more the loneliness in her heart grew.
When Laurent returned to the workshop, a messenger from the quest reception arrived.
“Ah. I’ve been looking for you.”
“You’re from the quest reception… Is there something you need?”
“It’s about Monica Velmare’s double-A certification from the other day. We’d really like her to visit our reception, but she left before we could finalize the paperwork. We need someone to fill it out on her behalf…”
“Oh, I can… Ah.”
Laurent felt a cold, murderous intent from behind him.
When he turned around, Lilianne was smiling sweetly at him.
“Laurent, what’s this about Monica receiving double-A certification from the island’s quest reception? Did you make Monica work during her vacation without my permission as guild master?”
“Uh? No, this is, well…”
“And double-A? Does that mean she took on A-class quests?”
“No, she just ended up defeating an A-class monster by chance. She was supposed to be assisting the local guild…”
Lilianne puffed her cheeks in displeasure.
“I’ve decided. I’m also going to take on an A-class quest on this island.”
“What? You too?”
“Yes, of course. And you’ll help me, right, Laurent?”
Lilianne’s smile was unwavering and left no room for objection.
“But, I can’t let you do that…”
“Enough! Just arrange an A-class quest for me!”
Thus, Laurent was forced to hastily assemble a team for Lilianne.
