Fuyuki Rinko Exposed to Malice.
Fuyuki Rinko’s POV.
Thanks to being able to refresh myself at Dai-kun’s house on Saturday, I suppose… On Sunday, I was able to study well on my own. Well — reasonably well.
Pushing myself too hard only ruins my efficiency. I tried to make up for the time I’d wasted on that nap. Honestly… even if I was sleep-deprived… to fall asleep that deeply…
I’ll just say it’s because I feel safe when I’m by Dai-kun’s side. Having him see my sleeping face was so embarrassing, though.
Monday — my condition wasn’t bad. If anything, I felt so good it scared me.
“Rinko-san, how’re ya feelin’?”
“Excellent. I’m razor-sharp today.”
“Well ain’t that somethin’. Guess you sleepin’ like a baby at my place wasn’t for nothin’, huh?”
“Wh—! Please forget that ever happened!”
Good grief! I wish he wouldn’t bring that up at school! But the moment I got to talk to him like this, my motivation shot up.
All right — let’s do this. I’m not losing to Dai-kun today!
***
I think I did incredibly well on the exams. I reviewed my answers multiple times — I was confident this was my best performance yet. After the test, we went to Mikudo for a small celebration.
“Well then, good job today, everyone!”
“Good work~!”
“Good jobbb!”
At last, we could relax a little. Now we just had to keep attending school until winter break.
“Why don’t ya’ll come over for a lil’ celebration again?”
“I wanna!!”
“But Christmas is coming up too, right? We could do something together on the day itself?”
“That’s true… hmm…”
“We can do both, right? For the celebration — how ‘bout a hot pot party?”
“Waaah! Hot pot!? Yes yes yes!”
“Shina… seriously, Tennouji-kun… don’t spoil her so much.”
“Eeeh? But Rin-chan also wants to go, right?
Like you wanna nap at Dai-chan’s place again! Ihyahya — don’t pinch me!”
“Oh, so this mouth is the cause of all your trouble?”
“Ahhh, Shi-chan! You’re not supposed to say that~”
I truly enjoyed myself. But from this point on… the days ahead would be some of the worst days of my life.
Though… because of that, my distance with Dai-kun shrank dramatically — and we eventually started dating.
Still — I would rather not remember any of it.
***
Our academy has no sense of privacy. They post the entire ranking list of every student by grade. Because of that, some people throw themselves desperately into studying — others panic so their shame isn’t displayed to the whole school.
I mark anyone who might become a rival and focus on keeping my score up.
And this time…
1st Fuyuki Rinko — 891 points
2nd Tennouji Daiki — 887 points
A close win against Dai-kun. Not that I’m competing — but around us people were saying
“Winter’s comeback!”
“Fuyuki-san is amazing as always!”
I wasn’t doing it for praise. It’s just… studying is the only thing I’m good at.
“Ohh, Rinko-san. As expected.”
Ridiculous as it is — hearing praise from him makes me happy.
“Well, this time I was just in good form…”
“You studied real hard — and hosted the study sessions. That’s your effort paying off. Good job.”
“I—I’m not a child, you know?”
“Haha, my bad. Still, ya did real good.”
“Yes…”
Embarrassing… yet wonderful. Being praised by Dai-kun feels… so good.
Mio and Shina’s grades had jumped up too, and everyone else who joined improved a lot.
I hoped the Class E girls did well also. If so — the work was worth it.
Just as I was about to return to the classroom—
“Don’t get cocky, you ugly bitch.”
“…!?”
Someone hissed it right into my ear. I spun around, startled — but there were too many people to tell who spoke.
“Rinko-san, what’s wrong?”
“N-nothing…”
My heart hammered violently. A shiver ran through me. And I remembered that tongue-click from the day of Noe-kun’s confession— terror washed over me.
This was just the beginning… of my worst days.
***
The next morning — I barely slept again. I walked to school in a fog of dread. Nothing but sighs.
What is happening to me…?
And when I opened my shoe locker — another letter.
I sighed again.
I didn’t want to look. But I forced myself to open it.
“Idiot. Die, ugly.”
Childish handwriting. Even elementary kids could do better than this… But remembering yesterday’s whisper sent my heart into a frenzy. My legs trembled.
Why? Why me?
I quickly stuffed the letter into my bag, desperate not to be seen, and rushed to the classroom.
The next day — another letter.
Trembling, I opened it.
“Don’t get cocky. Hurry up and die, Ugluki.”
Tears threatened to spill — but then I heard giggling. I swallowed everything back down. I couldn’t show weakness — never give them an opening.
I walked off as if nothing had happened.
Yet — I heard another “Tch” behind me.
Fear gripped me tighter.
The day after — another letter. I couldn’t take it anymore. Why was this happening to me…? I wasn’t sleeping at all— my head felt numb.
“Hurry up and die already, ugly. Gross. Just die.”
So… they want me gone that badly…? Then maybe I should just—
“What is this, some grade-schooler’s prank or what?”
A calm, low voice sounded behind me. A voice that made me feel safe—
“Da… Tennouji-kun?”
“Mornin’, Rinko-san. This right here is straight-up bullying.”
“Y-yes…”
“I thought somethin’ was off since the day before yesterday. Took me too long to act — sorry.”
“You—you don’t need to apologize! This is—”
“They been doin’ this since day before yesterday?”
“…Yes.”
“You still got the letters from then?”
“I do.”
“Then let’s go to the staff room. This is a clear case of bullying. You can’t just leave it be — it needs immediate action. If the teachers drag their feet, I’ll raise hell till they move.”
“You mustn’t! But… you’re right. We should tell a teacher…”
If Dai-kun said so — then it must be right.
I followed Dai-kun to the staff room and we reported everything to Ashiharabashi-sensei. He listened with a serious expression.
“Fuyuki, thank you for coming forward. Leave this to us. Kaminari-sensei! May I have a moment?”
“What is it?”
Ashiharabashi-sensei explained — and handed over the letters. Kaminari-sensei’s expression darkened sharply.
“We’ll convene an emergency faculty meeting. We’ll treat this as a major bullying case and respond immediately.”
“Understood. Fuyuki, don’t worry. We’re on your side. Tennouji — stay with her. We’ll likely switch to self-study after homeroom. Look after her.”
“Yes, sir.”
We thanked the teachers and returned to the classroom.
It became self-study time. Some students focused on review. Others gossiped about what might be happening.
I stayed with Dai-kun, Mio, and Shina — going over exam problems.
During break, I went to the restroom. Just as I finished and was about to leave the stall— someone barged in violently, nearly kicking the door open.
How uncivilized…
“Hey, how’s Ugly-ki doing today?”
“Huh? Ugly-ki? What’s that?”
“Obviously Fuyuki! That damn ugly bitch. So full of herself.”
…Me?
I covered my mouth and held my breath.
“Bet she freaked out reading those letters. She looks all composed, but she’s tofu-brained.”
“Kyahaha! So lame! She shouldn’t freak out over something like that!”
“But I think Tennouji saw the letter…”
“So what? Tennouji’s not scary.”
“It’s bad… what if Ugly-ki’s dating him?”
“What? She rejected Noe-kun for Tennouji? Ew. Maybe she’s his fuck buddy? The model honor student’s dirty little secret! We gotta spread that!”
“Kyahahahaha! She’s so full of herself just ‘cause she’s got Tennouji backing her! Die already!”
They left — but right before exiting—
“She’s in there.”
“Duh. I knew that.”
The bell rang… but I was too terrified to step outside.
