Chapter 32: The Changing Class
“Wow, this is amazing,” Haruya exclaimed as he looked around the classroom.
Even someone as oblivious as Haruya couldn’t help but notice the changes in the boys’ appearance lately.
Guys were wearing earrings and styling their hair with wax, among other things.
Haruya’s high school was known for being a decent school with a lot of serious students. Yet, some of the boys in his class seemed to be going out of their way to be rebellious now, and Haruya couldn’t help but gape in surprise.
“It seems like wearing earrings and styling hair with wax has become the latest trend,” Yuki said looking at Haruya, who was sitting next to him in disbelief.
As it was just before the morning homeroom, Yuki seemed to have become Haruya’s conversation partner.
“People have become delinquents or what? They’re going to get scolded by the teachers, you know?”
Haruya knew that this school, which prioritized rules over freedom, would not take kindly to such a behavior.
Although Haruya did not know the school rules in detail, he could infer that piercings and wax were not acceptable.
“Well, I guess they’re prepared to be scolded for it.”
“What do you mean?”
“It means they have something they want to achieve, even if they have to endure being scolded for it.”
“Huh…?”
Haruya tilted his head in confusion, not understanding the meaning.
Even though he wasn’t particularly interested in the inner workings of the class, he knew that the students at this high school were relatively serious. Therefore, he couldn’t keep up with the reasoning behind the boys’ strange behavior/.
Without even checking faces, and just by looking around, there were guys wearing wax and piercings – on top of that, even the introverted boys were stylish, so Haruya couldn’t really make sense of it all.
“—The guy that the S-class beauties are looking for is a guy from this high school who wears wax and piercings.”
Yuki whispered into his ear, leaving him breathless.
(…Another story about the S-class beauties? It seems like that’s all people have been talking about these days.)
Haruya wasn’t particularly interested in anything other than the story of the girl who claimed to have had a chance encounter like something out of a shoujo manga.
Nonetheless, he listened reluctantly as Yuki told him more details about it… Apparently, all three of the “S-class beauties” liked a guy at this high school who wore wax and piercings.
“So everyone wears wax and piercings for that reason?”
“Yeah, that’s the case. It’s a cheap price to pay for getting close to an S-class beauty and becoming their preferred type, even if it means getting scolded by the teachers.”
“…It’s so simple-minded, isn’t it?”
Although he had glimpses of it during the incident in gym class, he didn’t expect it to be this extreme.
Haruya couldn’t help but hold his head in his hands at the simplicity of the boys in his class.
“Well, it’s also just a trend, you know. In simple terms, it’s just popular.”
“Wax and piercings?”
“Yeah, that’s right. Look, even I have…”
Yuki, who had somewhat longish hair, lifted it up and showed Haruya his ear secretly. There was a small earring attached to his earlobe.
“Do you really need to go that far just to get that S-class beauty to notice you?”
“Everyone wants to fall in love with them, you know. So if Akasaki also wears wax and piercings, maybe he’ll get an S-class beauty to turn his way.”
Haruya just nodded vaguely in response to Yuki’s jokingly sarcastic comment.
(Even so, doing that much just to make a girl like you… it’s not just about wax and piercings, you know?)
Haruya thought to himself, feeling the need to make a comment. He really thought the guys in his class were simple. And he respected the guys who started wearing wax and piercings at this prestigious school.
(As for me, it’s impossible for me to wear wax and a piercing at school.)
Little did he realize that he was the one being referred to.
