Chapter 27: In the Rain with the S-Class Beauty ② (Rin)
“No… Actually my house is relatively close by, and I just thought that I could lend you the bath.”
“…”
After Rin’s extremely cold voice reached Haruya’s ears, Haruya tried hard to mend the situation so as not to create a misunderstanding.
He only suggested coming to his house for her sake. He had no ulterior motives. However, it remained uncertain whether Rin interpreted it as such.
Rin’s sakura-colored eyes, which were usually wide open, were now narrowed, making Haruya feel uneasy. He nervously swallowed as he listened to the sound of the rain pouring down.
(Oh no, this is bad. I feel so uncomfortable, and my stomach hurts.)
Trying to avoid Rin’s gaze, he lowered his head and thought about that until Rin suddenly burst into laughter.
“Sorry, sorry… I guess I teased you too much.”
“Huh? What do you mean?”
Haruya replied, looking puzzled. But it was understandable given the circumstances.
Rin’s sharp gaze had suddenly softened into a gentle one.
“I can tell that you don’t have any ulterior motives. I have a friend who is very popular with the opposite sex, so I’m sensitive to these kinds of things.”
“I was surprised. Please don’t make any more mean jokes.”
As he patted his chest and felt deeply relieved, he heard her giggle. Rin’s mischievous side was apparent
.
“But why did you suggest that I come to your house? It’s normal to be cautious around people you don’t trust, especially someone of the opposite sex that you’ve just met.”
Rin pointed out the risk to Haruya.
“Well, normally that’s true, but… you looked cold, and your complexion didn’t look good. Also, I heard that your house is far away so…”
“Wait, was I that easy to read!?”
Rin exclaimed, surprised that Haruya had noticed. She seemed to have been careful not to let him know. With her sakura-colored eyes wide open, she covered her head with her hands and said, “Oh no.”
“… Haha. It’s kind of embarrassing, but I don’t think I can just sneak into your home like that.”
Rin appealed to Haruya with a serious expression, saying she didn’t want to cause any more trouble. Although Haruya felt hesitant, he could sense Rin’s strong will from her expression.
—However, he couldn’t just leave a sick girl like this, so Haruya stood up alone.
(I’ll just have to be meddlesome for once.)
Since he figured he wouldn’t get involved any further, Haruya muttered to himself and ran out into the rain.
“Wait here for a bit.”
“Eh— where are you going!?”
Rin’s voice could be heard from behind, but Haruya pretended not to hear and ran towards a corner of the park.
He reached a vending machine and inserted 150 yen in coins to buy a warm drink – cocoa.
The sound of the cocoa falling into the dispenser could be heard, followed by a beep to indicate whether or not it was a winner. If the three digits displayed ended in “777” and the next digit was also a “7”, it was a winning combination and he could get another drink for free.
However, Haruya wasn’t expecting to win anything from this vending machine’s winning function, as he had never won anything from it before.
As he stood in the rain waiting for the results, he thought to himself, “I hope this ends quickly without the numbers matching.” Surprisingly, the last digit displayed was a “7”, indicating a win.
(Huh? Seriously?)
He was surprised and stunned, with his mouth half open.
It was his first time winning from a vending machine, so it didn’t feel quite real to him. He had also obtained his own drink for free.
He quickly grabbed the other drink from the dispenser and ran back to Rin.

“Wait, you went out of your way to buy this in the rain?”
As Haruya handed Rin a warm cocoa, he was greeted with a beaming smile and the opening question.
Feeling embarrassed, he fell silent and then she expressed her gratitude with a “thank you.”
“I’m happy because I like cocoa. But why did you choose an energy drink for yourself?”
Rin wondered why Haruya opted for a cold drink, even though she herself had chosen a warm cocoa.
Haruya, sensing the question, raised his spirits and replied,
“Well, you see, I won it from a vending machine.”
“Oh, really?”
“Yeah, that’s why I chose the most expensive energy drink.”
“I see… That’s why you seemed so happy. It’s kind of childish, isn’t it?”
“Well, I can’t deny that, but it’s the first time I’ve won, so I’m really happy.”
Haruya replied, beaming at Rin and holding out the energy drink.
While the fact that it was his first time winning had the biggest impact, Rin couldn’t help but feel embarrassed and look down.
Her face and ears had turned red before she even realized it.
“Hmm? What’s wrong?”
“N-nothing…”
Pouting, Rin opened the tab on the can and took a sip of cocoa.
The rain was still pouring outside, and the temperature was low, but it wasn’t enough to cool her down.
