Chapter 26: In the Rain with the S-Class Beauty (Rin)
In the end, Rin nodded her head in response to Haruya’s suggestion.
She squeezed out the moisture from her clothes and skirt, which had become heavy with rain, and put on Haruya’s jersey and stayed quiet.
“…It’s bigger than I thought.”
“Yeah, it seems so. Sorry about that.”
It was clearly a matter of physical difference, but there was a noticeable size difference between Rin and Haruya, and so Haruya’s jersey that she was currently wearing would show that too. Her hands were not in the sleeves, and the hem covered her from her waist to her thighs.
To be honest, Haruya’s jersey was so big for Rin that she might be able to barely hide her important parts even if she didn’t wear a skirt or pants.
“By the way, it doesn’t seem like the rain is going to stop anytime soon.”
Haruya had thought it was just a passing shower and it would stop soon, but the rain didn’t seem to want to stop.
Perhaps because he was sharing time with a girl from the same high school whom he had just met, time seemed to be passing slowly for Haruya.
And so he prayed that the rain would stop soon.
“Yeah, you’re right. If it’s raining this much, I should have brought an umbrella with me.”
“Worst case scenario, we might have to part ways in the rain. Is that okay?”
“Well, it’s about 30 minutes from here. I’ll be fine if I run through the rain!”
He regretted asking. Haruya narrowed his eyes inwardly and sighed.
(…That’s not okay at all.)
Generally, students who commute on foot have their homes within a distance of about 20 minutes at worst, but in Rin’s case, it takes 30 minutes to run.
It should be a distance that allows commuting by bicycle, but Haruya tilted his head in confusion at her choice to commute on foot.
“… Even though it’s so far, why do you walk instead of taking a bus?”
“Oh, I actually like exercise and stuff, you know? Plus, I like being in the sun, so walking freely is better for me.”
“I see.”
“Yeah!”
If it’s something she wants to do, Haruya has no reason to intervene, but unfortunately it’s raining.
Despite being the same age, Haruya can’t help feeling guilty about making such a small girl run through the rain for 30 minutes.
It’s going to give him a bad start to his day, too.
“Is your house nearby? Are you going to be okay?”
“Well, it’s kind of close.”
Haruya couldn’t bring himself to say that he would actually be able to get home in just a few minutes, so he spoke vaguely and looked away.
“I see.”
“Yeah.”
As they continued their conversation, Haruya noticed that Rin was speaking less and less.
She had been so outgoing at first, but now she was holding back and being reserved.
Of course, it might have something to do with the fact that he had lent her his jersey and that her clothes were see-through, but even so, there was a sense of discomfort that Haruya couldn’t shake off.
As he looked over at Rin, trying to figure out the source of the discomfort, he noticed that her body was shaking slightly from the cold.
“… Hmm? Did you find me that attractive? In love?”
Haruya looked at Rin with suspicion, but she returned to her energetic attitude and showed her white teeth as she said those words, as if teasing him.
(… This is just an act to cover up my suspicion. That’s the feeling I get.)
As far as Haruya was concerned, he had no way of knowing whether Rin was feeling well or not, but she did not appear to be doing so well.
Her body was trembling slightly.
Her complexion looked slightly bad.
Her tone of voice was fluctuating between energetic and subdued.
Haruya regretted noticing these signs, but now that he had, he couldn’t ignore them.
In front of the pouring rain, Haruya made up his mind and said to Rin:
“If you’d like, do you want to come to my place?”
“… Huh… what?”
Surprised, and then a frigid voice reached his ears, causing Haruya to inwardly sigh that it might have been better not to say anything.
In the midst of taking shelter from the rain, the relationship between Rin, a high school girl whom he had “accidentally met,” and Haruya seemed to continue as if it were a cruel joke played by the gods.
