Chapter 20: Conversation Amongst S-Class Beauties ③
Rumors spread rapidly. Whether the content is good or bad, it spreads without consideration for the person involved. Especially in the case of famous people, rumors spread in no time even without the person’s knowledge.
Sara Himekawa, a S-class beauty in the same class as Haruya, was a good example of that.
“…Lately, I’ve been getting a lot of attention from people around me, and I don’t know what to do,” Sara said, seeking advice from her two trusted friends, a day after Yuna and Haruya first met. They were currently in a less crowded women’s restroom.
Normally, Sara was insensitive to others’ stares, but the rumors had spread so widely that she couldn’t help but worry.
” —The guy Sara Himekawa likes is in this high school,” the rumor went. At first glance, it wasn’t something to make a fuss about, but for Sara and a few other girls, it was a different story.
For these girls, who were known for their exceptional looks and referred to as “S-class beauties,” the boys wouldn’t just stay silent after knowing that.
The rumor had spread not only within the class but throughout the entire year, and Sara was at a loss as to how to deal with it.
“What should we do… Yuna-rin?”
“I’m sorry, but I can’t think of anything either,”
Yuna and Rin wore expressions of frustration as they realized they had no choice but to wait for the rumors to die down by itself. Sara, who had been receiving more confessions lately due to the rumors, looked with a teary-eyed expression and also eagerness to resolve the situation quickly.
The silver lining was that the rumors hadn’t spread school-wide yet, but given the circumstances, it felt like it was only a matter of time.
As Sara anxiously pondered her next steps, Rin’s eyes lit up with a sudden realization, her iris a vivid shade of pink.
“Hey, Sara-chin! You know what? This might be a chance!”
“A chance? For what?”
Sara looked puzzled and confused as she gazed at Rin.
“Yeah, yeah! Because if rumors are spreading, then… your ‘fated partner’ might hear about it too!”
Sara had been searching for her ‘fated partner’ but hadn’t been able to find him yet. However, if her potential partner was in the same high school as her, then maybe news about her might naturally reach him too, Rin thought.
“Is that so? There’s also a possibility that they might be in a different high school,” Sara responded, remembering Yuna’s suggestion about the possibility of her fated partner being in a different school.
Sara glanced apologetically at Yuna.
“It’s okay! We haven’t really checked all the students in the school since that day, right? Sara-chin.”
“Well, yes, that’s true, but…”
Sara nodded in agreement with Rin’s encouragement, but her words lacked confidence. Rin was the type to rely on emotions rather than think rationally, so while Sara appreciated Rin’s support, she couldn’t shake off her anxiety.
Sara probably wanted to hear Yuna’s opinion, as Yuna was known for her ability to view things from a detached and calm perspective. Yuna noticed Sara’s desperate gaze and took a deep breath.
“Sara, I truly believe that everything will be okay,” Yuna said with a gentle smile, twirling her black hair with her fingers.
“Really? Do you think so?” Sara asked hesitantly.
“Yeah, I mean, I’m not really the type to believe in ‘fate’ and all that,” Yuna chuckled. “So, it might not sit well with someone like me but…”
“Yeah, that’s true,” Sara agreed with Yuna’s assessment, and Rin chimed in, “Yeah, ‘fate’ might not be Yuna-rin’s thing.”
Yuna, who usually seems cool and pragmatic, has a realistic side to her. Rin and Sara, who are always together with her, understand this aspect of Yuna deeply, which is why her words carry persuasive power.
After acknowledging Rin and Sara’s urging, Yuna smiled slightly and continued, “Honestly, I didn’t really believe in fate before, but now I do.”
She spoke with a hint of meaning, and Rin and Sara widened their eyes in surprise.
Yuna’s cheeks were slightly flushed, and she played with her black hair in a slightly embarrassed manner. It seemed unexpected to them, seeing Yuna in such a state. Perhaps because they had known each other for a long time, their surprise was particularly strong.
“Eh, c-could it be, Y-Yuna-rin too!?”
Rin eagerly asked with excitement mixed with “hope” in her eyes. While not as enthusiastic as Rin, Sara also raised her energy level with a “Wow!” as if the depression she had been feeling earlier was a lie.
“Well, um, not exactly falling in love, but I did have a ‘fateful encounter’ yesterday,” Yuna said, reminiscing about her “fateful encounter” with Haruya, as goes without saying. They had talked passionately about shoujo manga, chatted in a cafe until the sun went down, went to her house, and had dinner together.
Because she had experienced such a miraculous encounter, Yuna believed in Sara’s destiny.
“So, I also had… a fateful encounter. So, Sara, it will go well for you, I’m sure,” Yuna said, blushing slightly and playing with her black hair.
“Yes! I hope it goes well for you too, Yuna-san!”
“Well, we’re not like that yet,” Yuna said shyly, pursing her lips.
“Not yet? You said ‘not yet,’ right? Yuna-rin, tell us the details! What kind of encounter was it? What kind of guy was he?”
Rin’s questioning began, determined not to let Yuna off the hook, and Yuna resigned herself and began to tell them the details, keeping her shoujo manga story hidden.
