Chapter 10: S-Class Beauties’ Physical Education
“Sara-chin, you’re amazing! You just scored a 3-pointer!”
“I can’t believe it, Sara of all people was able to…”
This was the scene in the gym during the fourth period PE class.
They were playing basketball, and Sara, who was known for being clumsy and bad at sports, was actually helping her team win. Yuna and Rin, who were both close friends and stunning beauties, stared at Sara in disbelief.
“It’s the result of a special training…”
“Special training!? When did you start doing that, Sara-chin?”
“I’m impressed… you’ve improved so much.”
Sara had a knack for tripping over nothing and falling flat on her face. Yuna was genuinely amazed that Sara was doing so well in basketball.
“Did you do some kind of secret training…?”
“U-um…”
Yuna’s question made Sara blush and made her lower her eyes. She looked like a typical girl in love. She fidgeted nervously and couldn’t stop smiling.
“…You’re so obvious, Sara. In that case…”
“Rin’s going to grill you,” Yuna said, but it was too late. Rin’s eyes lit up as she moved closer to Sara. She loved gossiping about romance.
“Hey, Sara-chin… Does that mean what I think it is!?”
“Y-Yes.”
Yuna sighed and shook her head. She knew Rin wouldn’t let go of Sara until she spilled the beans. Sara’s “secret training” was not a secret anymore.
“W-well… He helped me practice basketball the other day.”
“Really!? You’re getting along with him so well already! How did it happen!?”
“…It felt like fate.”
Sara thought back to that practice session. Although Haruya had only intended to teach her a little bit, he ended up teaching her until the sun went down. Thanks to him, Sara had improved a lot.
But that wasn’t the most important thing for Sara. She was happy that she could play basketball better, but she was even happier that she could spend time with him.
With her amber eyes glistening, she began to share this with Rin and Yuna.
“I don’t want to spread this around, but he goes to the same high school as us.”
“Wow, really… Come on, tell us more!”
“Well, at this point, nothing surprises me anymore…”
Rin and Yuna reacted differently. Rin was eager to know more, while Yuna was dumbfounded.
Sara asked them to keep it a secret. She then told them that she had seen Haruya wearing a tracksuit with their high school logo on it.
The reason why Sara wanted to keep this a secret was that she wanted to find him by herself.
(…I want to see him again.)
♦︎♢♦︎
During the fourth period PE class, the girls and boys were in the same gym. The girls were playing basketball, while the boys, including Haruya, were playing badminton.
The gym was divided by a net in the middle, so both groups could use it equally. Usually, PE classes were mixed, so there were a lot of people in the gym.
Sometimes, the girls would glance at the boys, and the boys would glance at the girls. This was normal in PE classes.
“Wow! Himekawa scored a point! She’s awesome!”
“She’s so cool. The S-class beauties are on another level.”
The boys in the class whispered with admiration, watching the girls through the net. Of course, not all of them were talking about the girls, just a few of them.
Haruya was one of them, for he was not interested in the boys’ chatter. He was instead just hitting the shuttlecock against the wall by himself. The reason was simple and obvious. He had no partner to play badminton with, so he had to practice alone.
“Go for it, Aira-kun!”
The girls were not only watching their own game, but also a certain boy on the other side of the net. He was Kazuyoshi Aira, who was in the same class as Haruya.
Kazuyoshi had nothing to do with Haruya, but he was well-known for being handsome and talented in both studies and sports. He was also the star of the soccer team, even though he was only a freshman. He had many fans among the girls. They cheered for him loudly.
The other boys were jealous and annoyed by Aira’s popularity. They tried to ignore him or make him lose his focus. Some boys kicked the floor with their sneakers in frustration.
“We can’t compete with Aira and the S-class beauties. They get all the attention.”
Haruya was hitting the wall by himself, daydreaming about shoujo manga. He heard Yuki Kazemiya, a boy next to him, say that.
“That’s true.”
“Well, I think you’re more interesting because you don’t care.”
“Yeah, I don’t care.”
“Then, aren’t you afraid of being left out alone? Just saying though.”
“…It doesn’t bother me. I’m fine with it.”
It was a valid point, and Haruya couldn’t argue against it. Yuki laughed heartily and turned his gaze towards Aira.
“Hey, Akasaki. Do you want to play with me? I’m free right now.”
Upon seeing Yuki’s bewildered, rather than puzzled expression, Haruya briefly shifted his gaze towards Aira. There, he witnessed a group of boys flocking around him, as if saying “stop Aira!” He watched them get defeated one by one.
“…Are they stupid or what?”
“Hahaha, it seems like there are many simpleton like that.”
“Looks like it.”
Haruya nodded, making a face of disbelief, just like Yuki.
He didn’t get why they were acting like they were holding Aira back, but actually making him look better. Haruya could only think that he didn’t understand them at all.
“Don’t you get tired of hitting the wall by yourself? Akasaki, do you want to play with me?”
“Sure. Let’s play together.”
“Awesome!”
And so, Haruya and Yuki started playing badminton in a quiet corner of the gym.
After the class was over and Haruya had more fun playing badminton than he
expected, he thanked Yuki for being his partner.
Yuki then said, “You know, you’re kind of cute in your own way,” causing Haruya to shudder with discomfort.
