Chapter 04: From the Boy Next to Him
Haruya was the “silent type” in his class, or rather, the “invisible mob.” He didn’t mind being labeled as a “loner,” but he did have one classmate who occasionally talked to him.
“Hey, hey, did you hear that, Akasaki?”
“… hmm?”
Haruya looked up from his desk and saw his neighbor in class, Yuki Kazemiya, leaning over with a grin.
They were only “classmates,” but Yuki seemed eager to gossip with Haruya.
“They were just talking about it.”
“Who were?”
“The S-class beauties.”
“S-class beauties?”
Haruya tilted his head, unable to recall anything related to the S-class beauties. He was probably the only one in the class who didn’t care about such things.
“Akasaki… are you serious?”
“I am.”
Haruya wasn’t trying to be rude, but he didn’t even remember Yuki’s name, the guy who was currently talking to him.
He just thought of him as ‘the guy next to me in the class’.
Well, it was still early in their high school life.
“Those three stunning girls from our class: Sara Himekawa, Yuna Takamori, and Rin Kohinata. You know, the ones that everyone’s been raving about, right?”
“Oh, uh…yeah, sure.”
Haruya nodded vaguely, not wanting to admit that he had no idea who they were in the first place.
Even after Yuki explained, Haruya was still clueless about them.
(...Who are they anyway?)
He wondered silently.
But from Yuki’s next words, he realized that they were related to the conversation he overheard earlier.
“Anyway, guess what? Himekawa has a ‘crush’, apparently. And she had a romantic encounter like something out of a shoujo manga.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, it’s hard to believe that Himekawa has a crush, right? I’m jealous of the lucky guy.”
“Uh, sure.”
Haruya vaguely remembered that Sara Himekawa was a “hard-to-get” girl and an S-class beauty.
He heard that she was bad with boys because she went to an all-girls school for rich ladies until last year.
“Haha, you’re so funny, Akasaki. You don’t seem to care at all about the girl the boys in our class have a crush on.”
“…”
Haruya tried to keep a poker face, but Yuki saw through him.
He was listening to the S-class beauties’ conversation because it reminded him of something he had experienced, not because he was interested in them.
As Yuki said, Haruya didn’t really care about the S-class beauties, which made him different from the other boys in the class.
“But, well, you should at least know something about them.”
“…”
In the face of Yuki’s advice, Haruya remained silent as he laughed mockingly.
“…Otherwise, you won’t be able to make friends.”
“That’s none of your business.”
“Haha, you’re right.”
Yuki laughed out loud and left, probably looking for another classmate to chat with.
After making sure that Yuki was gone, Haruya pretended to sleep again.
(But still… S-class beauties, huh?))
He wondered what kind of girls they were, but he thought that he had nothing to do with them anyway and so dismissed his curiosity.
(Well, I’ll never get involved with them anyway…)
He had already made up his mind, but regardless of whether he wanted to, he was inevitably going to meet one of the S-class beauties, Sara Himekawa, this weekend.
Of course, neither he nor Sara knew that they were in the same class.
