The Invincible Undefeated Divine Sword Master - Chapter 6
Duel Outcome
When the clock struck one in the afternoon, the duel would begin.
We’ll be fighting in the center of the barracks, and before we fight, we’ll be asked to choose a “weapon”.
Swords, spears, flails, chainscythes, you name it, they had it.
I was told that I could choose whatever I want, so I asked for a sword.
“Oh, a sword. Good one. I don’t want you to use it as an excuse for losing later.”
Marks, my second brother, said sarcastically, but I didn’t care about his words and checked my sword.
Then I noticed a something strange with my sword and I was about to protest to Marks, but I stopped when I noticed her glare at me from the noble’s table.
“…was it my stepmother who set the sword?”
The sword had been cracked to make it fragile and break during the duel.
Well, it doesn’t really matter because I’m not going to win.
And I can do something about the cracks as well.
I send magic into the sword to reinforce it. Of course, without chanting any spells and without anyone knowing.
Even the judges, let alone Marks, didn’t know that I’ve put magic into my sword. That’s how quickly I can perform the magic.
I swinged my sword, which has increased in strength, and it cuts through the air. Hmm, that’s pretty good. Just as I was thinking that, the clock struck one o’clock.
Time to start the duel.
As it was, I locked swords with Marks in the center of the arena and waited for the signal to begin.
“What? You also use a sword brother?”
“In House Estark, a man is expected to be able to use a sword. I heard you’re good with a sword, so that’s a great disadvantage.”
“Thankyou.”
When I said that, the signal to start rang out.
“Screw you!”
He took a step forward and swung his sword. The blow was quite impressive.
If I was an ordinary warrior, I might have been slashed straight away, but I’ve been training with a sword under my pillow since I was a child. Marks’ movements seemed to be in slow motion for me.
I took a half step back, suppressing the impact. I wanted to dodge his attack and counterattack, but his attack comes. I barely have time to make a defensive move.
“…ha, as expected, of my older brother…”
These words are meant to make the other person feel better, but it seems silly to say it to him, so I said it in a voice that is barely heard.
“Ha-ha-ha! You’re afraid! Let my swordplay intoxicate you!”
He swung his sword around.
I’m dismayed by the gap between the two of us, but I still pretend to be cornered.
My sister, Ellen, was very impressed with my performance.
“Brother Licht, what are you doing? You have to be serious!”
She desperately pleads to me.
I can’t help but feel heartbroken when I see her, but even so, I still intended to lose this duel.
I want to be exiled. My stepmother wants to exile me. The two sides have the same purpose. There’s nothing to oppose it.
With that in mind, I purposely stagger and take the slash.
Marks slashed at me, and I took just enough damage to not die. That should have solved everything, at least that’s what I thought, but it didn’t.
The moment I tried to stagger Mark’s attack; I felt a grip on my leg.
No, my feet were trapped.
When I looked down, I saw that the ground had cracked open and magic hands were reaching out from it.
“…is this the magic of binding?”
I looked over and saw my stepmother smiling at me. In addition, there were several sorcerers in the hall, chanting spells.
“…so that’s how it is.”
Apparently, my stepmother doesn’t want to expel me, she wants to kill me.
It seems that they are not satisfied with exile, but they are trying to kill me.
That’s why they have sabotaged the sword and placed sorcerers in the hall to interfere the duel.
Why does she hate me so much?
–I had too much in mind.
My father’s wife, Minerva, was a very jealous woman, she had a hard time with my mother, my father’s concubine. She was probably the one who killed my mother. Rather, it was already a well-known fact in this castle.
She had been chastising me as a child, trying to kill me at every opportunity, and now she finally had the chance to do it.
She was waiting for the moment when her husband, the Count, would be away from home, then she would expel me because there would be no one to protect me. That’s what she was waiting for, I guess. She was probably planning to send assassins after he expelled me, but when Ellen suggested a duel, so she changed her plan.
Or maybe this duel was a blessing in disguise for Minerva.
It is the tradition and the law of this country that no matter what happens in a duel, no questions will be asked.
“…truly, it’s an honor to be hated this much.”
I let that slip out of my mouth and made up my mind.
I had two choices: I could stay silent and let Marks cut me, or I could cut Marks. Those were the only two choices.
Now that we’ve come this far, there’s no way to resolve this without spilling blood.
I thought so, and chose the second option.
I decided to slay my brother.
I checked the entrance to the military drill hall. I wanted to secure my escape route after slaying my brother.
Killing during a duel is legal, but there’s no way I can be forgiven as it is for killing Marks.
I will be captured and torn to pieces by the soldiers. My stepmother is the epitome of sadism.
After I killed my brother, I must immediately escape.
I made the right choice, but the action was never made. Because I saw my sister crying and protesting to Minerva.
Ellen is both smart and perceptive. She immediately knew that my sword was manipulated and I was enchanted with a binding spell, so she protested to her mother.
Ellen cried and pestered her mother. It’s been years since I’ve seen my sister cry.
“…yeah, since that time …”
The day my mother died, the only person who cried at the funeral was Ellen. She was the one who cried for me when my tears had dried up long ago.
Ellen protested fiercely to Minerva, and Minerva slapped her, but she still insists to call off the duel.
With that image burned into my mind, I took a third option.
I blow away Marks’ sword as he holds it up to try to cut me down.
I flicked away his cut with my sword, which was flowed with reinforcement magic, then I send some magic powers to my legs.
Boom! The sorcerers who had been binding me using magic binding spell was knocked out from all sides of the hall by the magic I sent through my legs.
All I had to do was convince my brother to make a fireball in his hand and burn me.
For that, it would be more effective to wait for the fireball to be created.
I gave my brother plenty of time to chant the fireball spell, I cut the fireball he threw at me in half and thrusted my sword at his throat.
“My brother Marks, and my stepmother Minerva, is the one behind all this!”
My high-pitched words were met with silence from the audience. The people who had been named stared at me in a cold sweat.
My sister, Ellen, turns her tear-streaked face to me.
“Look, I could slay everyone in this room right now. But I’m not going to do that. But I won’t do that because my sister will be sad. A drop of your blood is not worth a drop of my sister’s tears!”
“…”
“My sister is everything to me. I’m leaving this house, but if you do anything to my sister, I’ll cut off all your fingers. Trust me, I’ll chase every single one of you to the end of the world”
As I said this, I traced the skin of Marks’ neck with the tip of my sword. A small amount of blood leaks out.
Marks groaned in fear.
“Do you understand me? Brother?”
I said, and he nodded his head.
Minerva nodded, while sweat was pouring down her face, and the winner of the duel was decided.
I didn’t want to make it difficult for him to win or lose later, so I ordered Marks to flick me in my forehead, which he fearfully did.
I screamed, exaggeratedly, intentionally.
“Oh, what a blow! I lost, I lost. I’m beaten. You can’t beat the second son of House Estark.”
He falls down on his knee and stares at the ref. The ref was frightened and declared Marks as the winner.
After making sure that everything was in order, I left the barracks, the barracks was as quiet as a graveyard.
I went back to my room and left Estark Castle with the luggage I had packed.
