True Magic Value (Mage’s perspective)
A duel was suddenly scheduled to take place at the barracks, and the magic measuring device that had been brought there needs to be cleaned up. As the mages hired by the Estark family hurriedly cleaned up the machine, the head mage received this report from his assistant.
“Sir, there’s something wrong with the machine.”
“What the hell?”
That’s a big deal.
The magic measuring device was a legacy of an ancient magical civilization and is an expensive artifact. If it were to break down, the cost for repairing it would be a lot. On top of that, if the magic society found out that the device was broken, they would get a big trouble out of it.
“I can’t afford to lose my job.”
The head mage examined the measuring device with that in his mind. He opened the panel to check the machine and analysed the logs.
An ancient magical script was being displayed.
–There were no abnormalities found.
“Well, my dear, why were you surprised? There’s nothing wrong with it.”
“Oh, master, there’s nothing wrong with the machine. There’s something wrong with the numbers…”
“Numbers?”
He began to analyze the numbers, when he chekced the results of the previous measurement,
The number displayed on the screen was 332.
“This is Marks-dono’s magic power. What’s the problem?”
“No, not that one. It’s the one before that.”
“Before that? The one from the bastard?”
The sorcerer could not believe his eyes as he saw the number.
“What the hell? A magic value of 1123?
“That’s right. There’s something wrong with the machine, isn’t there? The number that was shown in the sky was 11.”
“Hmm… but none of the devices are broken.”
No matter how much they checked the machine, there was nothing wrong with it.
That means someone had messed up the numbers.
“…don’t tell me that someone messed with the numbers in this barrack full of people…”
“…that’s not the problem, is it possible for someone to have this magic value?”
The magic value of 1123 is a ridiculous number.
That means five times the magic power of an ordinary sorcerer.
“…that bastard Licht, he’s probably the best sorcerer in the Estark family.”
The only one who has could mess the numbers up in this place is Licht. That’s what I have to conclude, but I can’t figure out why would he do such a thing.
The head sorcerer couldn’t understand why Licht had to fake his magic power when he would be banished he doesn’t pass the test.
“…But then again, that’s what aristocrats are for, isn’t it?”
The world of the aristocracy is a world of vengeful spirits. As the saying goes, the nail that sticks out gets hammered down, and having too much magic power does not make life any easier. In addition, I am a bastard, and my position in the Count’s family was supposed to be delicate.
“…poor boy.”
The sorcerer thought so, and decided not to report this issue to the Estark family, because if he reported my magic value, it would cause a scene.
“…well, I’m a wizard for hire, and my job is to make sure the machines work properly.”
The sorcerer left it that way and decided to return directly to the royal capital.
The duel between Licht and Marks would take place this afternoon, and I had no intention of witnessing it. My apprentice said it would be a shame to miss it, but as a mage, there’s nothing more boring than a duel with a “fixed winner”. The late nobleman Marks is beyond helping.
That’s how outstanding Licht’s magic value was.
