Chapter 5 : The Demon’s Beloved Child (END)
It has been several days since they left the inn of the country town where Etia lived. When she heard that they would arrive at the royal capital tomorrow, Etia breathed a sigh of relief after suffering from carriage sickness for days.
When she opened the curtains hanging over the small window of the carriage, she saw the surface of the water, glittering and dazzling under the sunlight. There was only a single line separating it from the bright blue sky. Etia’s heart thumped with excitement at the sight of something she has never seen before.
She looked at the large and small ships anchored in the harbor and smiled bitterly as she remembered her situation, wondering if she would be able to travel to that great ocean if she got on that ship.
She agreed to be the king’s concubine just to see this. Originally, there was no room for refusal, but she wanted to believe that she had made her own choice.
With the lingering sight of the sea still fresh in her mind, the carriage drove forward to the royal castle. After passing through many gates, they finally got off the carriage, long after they had gone through the first gate. The royal castle was so high and vast that she could see many buildings as if it were a city. All of them were lavishly built, nothing compared to the country church halls that she had thought were gorgeous.
Etia was welcomed by the attendants and priests of the royal castle and had an audience with the king early after her arrival. The king, whom she had never seen before, was an overweight man, not more than fifty years old, with a very lustful look on his face.
When Etia got permission to look up, she looked at the king, and he gulped as his eyes scrutinized her.
Even though he had heard the reputation of the angel’s beloved child beforehand, he had assumed that she was just a country girl and that she would not amount to much. With an appearance that was no worse than the statue of a church goddess that was beyond imagination, the king looked at her with obscene eyes as if licking her. Despair overtook Etia as she met his gaze.
The time soon came.
That night, after she was granted an audience with the king, she was told that there would be a royal procession. She was supposed to visit another mistress, but it was suddenly changed.
Immediately there was a flurry of activity around Etia, and her body was carefully polished by the hands of several maids. Every inch of her body and every strand of her hair was smeared with fragrant oil, and she was dressed in a soft, fluffy nightgown. They made Etia put on a night gown and let her wait for the king to arrive in the room given to her.
She repeatedly looked at the glass door leading to the balcony as if praying, then looked down and nodded her head.
Eventually, there was a murmur outside the door and she knew the king was coming. When the door opened, her shoulders shook, she saw the king standing there, dressed in a much lighter outfit than he had worn during the day. The king, with an obscene look on his face, approached her, licking his tongue.
“Well, well, well. The beloved child of an angel is a beauty to be reckoned with.”
With her daytime makeup off and her face bare, Etia looked divinely pure, and he lusted at the thought of being able to violate an untouched girl.
Just as his hand was about to touch Etia, the large glass door of the balcony opened with a bang.
A jet-black shadow landed on the balcony of the royal palace that was suddenly flooded with light. Etia’s eyes burned at the familiar sight. The gaze of the man who stepped into the room and the tearful gaze of Etia collided.
“If I say I want you, will you be mine?”
“I will!”
Brushing off the king’s hand, Etia ran towards the window. Her fluttering nightgown tangles around her legs and she nearly falls, jumping into the man’s chest.
This was the second time she touched the man. The first time, she touched him in desperation to say goodbye to him. Now she was just happy and didn’t want to leave, so she desperately wrapped her hands around the man’s neck. The man put his hands below Etia’s knees and lifted her up, and she put her hands around his neck with a big smile on her face.
“Human king. This girl is mine and I want her back.”
“You’re a demon!”
The king shouted at the sight of the man who suddenly appeared bearing a beautiful appearance far beyond that of a human. The man laughed through his throat, wondering if he was capable of detecting the presence of a demonic being, despite how incompetent he looked.
The king, who had lost his concubine to the demon, turned pale and stood dumbfounded in front of the demon. The knights outside the room jumped in at the king’s loud shout, but they were too frightened to move in the face of the overwhelming presence in front of them. However, they quickly remembered their duty and pulled out the swords hanging on their hips and pointed them at the man.
The man doesn’t seem to mind that the knights are pointing their swords at him, and turns to the king, not the knights.
“This woman is beyond the reach of human beings. If you don’t want to die, you’d better back off.”
“Your Majesty, if you are willing to set me free, I will bring this demon with me. I promise you that he will never set foot in this land again.”
“What are you talking about?! Who do you think you are?! You will never get away with this!!”
Etia watched with a cold gaze as the king spoke up, his pale face flushed with his saliva flying everywhere. She sighs in disgust at what an incomprehensible person he is.
“I am not asking for a favor. If I ask this demon, I can leave any moment right now. I’m sorry you don’t appreciate my suggestion that we leave in peace.”
The king, who seemed to be speaking politely but was quite arrogant, took the sword from the knight who was protecting him.
“You don’t know what you’re up against. As soon as I invoke it, the other demons will come. I could destroy not only this castle, but the entire city. You’d better retreat while I’m at my most generous. I’m not a very patient person.”
When Etia told the demon that she had heard enough, the man instantly lost interest and jumped off the balcony with Etia in his arms.
…
…
…
“Isn’t it a little late for you to come and get me? I’m tired of waiting.”
“…there’s no guarantee that I will come.”
When they had left the castle and settled down, Etia, who was being carried by a man, protested with a sharp mouth. When the man heard this, he retorted in a slurred tone.
“I’m sure you’ll come. You like me, don’t you?”
When the man noticed Etia’s gaze, he buried his face in Etia’s neck to escape her gaze.
The fact that a high-ranking demon was so fascinated by a human girl made him feel conflicted and he stayed away from her for a while. When he somehow got over it and went to visit her, she unilaterally said goodbye to him because she was going to be the concubine of a human king. He didn’t want to look like a fool, so he just let her go, but after a few days of tormenting himself, he didn’t care anymore.
“I’m tired of looking away and thinking about things.”
“It would have been better if you had told me from the beginning that you liked me without any pretense!”
Etia held the man’s face between her hands, forcing him to look up, and made eye contact with him, who seemed uncomfortable.
“I knew the odds were against me. Because you are a beloved child who drives people crazy. How could I, a demon, not be attracted to you?”
“Huh?”
Sometimes she cried her eyes out, sometimes she smiled like a blooming flower, and sometimes she pretended to be weak to stimulate his desire for protection.
It’s true that he fell in love, and that he loved this girl. He probably just used the fact that she was a beloved child as an excuse to approach her.
“I’m desperate, too. I tried my best to seduce you in any possible way.”
The man knows that when he picked up this girl in the royal castle, she was shaking slightly. He couldn’t help but let out a sneer when he saw how adorably defiant she was in front of him.
“But don’t worry. You’re the only person I’ve ever seduced in my life.”
“Don’t say another word.”
The man listened to Etia, who was more talkative than ever, but interrupted her with a bitter look on his face.
“Why?”
“This is very disgraceful.”
The man who called himself a high-ranking demon was seduced by a mere human girl.
“What do you want to do now?”
“I want to see the sea more closely. I want to see the snow. I want to go to the city. I want to learn a lot of things I don’t know.”
As she said this, she peered worriedly into the face of the man who was at close range.
“Does it bother you that I’m here with you? In that case, you can leave me behind.”
“Don’t be mistaken. Remember, everything from your soul to every strand of your hair is mine.”
When Etia heard this, her cheeks turned red and she burst into tears, then she wrapped her arms around the man’s neck.
“Of course. You are under obligation to own each and every hair on my head. Do not give it to anyone from anywhere.”
The seduced demon crept his lips over the girl’s cheek like tasting a ripe fruit and kissed her directly on the lips.
The demon’s beloved child, flushed to the ears, leans against the man’s shoulder.
“I’m very happy.”
