Chapter 08: Curse Lifting

The wolf, almost completely weakened, still growled, seemingly without reason.

I approached it slowly, sheathing my sword to show I meant no harm.

“Um… I’m going to lift your curse now. It’d be great if you didn’t struggle.”

I had put on a brave face in front of Kagura earlier, but now I felt a bit awkward.

Despite our conflict, I had attacked it quite harshly and said some terrible things.

But since I had decided to help, I was going to see it through.

This wolf was under a powerful curse, and the only way to help was to touch it. So, I placed my hand on its belly.

Kagura spoke to the black wolf, which nodded firmly with its intelligent eyes and started to leave. Just before it disappeared, it seemed to look back at me wistfully for a moment, but perhaps it was just my imagination.

“Sorry to intrude, but please don’t forget us.”

“Oh… I’m sorry, your companions are safe, right?”

“I’m thirteen.”

He patted my head as he said that.

I was surprised by the sudden gesture, but it didn’t feel bad, so I accepted it.

“Sorry for the late introduction. I’m Yuma, a guardian from a town a little away from this forest.”
