Chapter 19: Horror and Eroticism Come in Pairs
“Phew, that was a great meal.”
“Thanks for the food.”
“So, how was it? Did it taste good?”
“…Yeah. It was definitely better than instant noodles, at least.”
Although it’s frustrating to admit, the carbonara Mizushima made was pretty good.
The ingredients were just ordinary things from our fridge, and the cooking process wasn’t complicated at all… So, this is Mizushima’s cooking skill.
She’s beautiful, excels in both arts and sports, good at video games, and even domestic? What can’t this girl do?
“Then I’m glad. It was a good idea to cook together, right?”
“Well, ‘together’ is stretching it; I just boiled the pasta.”
Now that we’ve had lunch, what should we do next?
I can’t think of anything in particular, and I’d be most grateful if this could be the end of it…
“Alright. Once we’ve cleaned up, how about we watch a movie together?”
It’s as if Mizushima read my mind with that suggestion. It seems like she really plans to stay at my house for the whole day.
Surely she won’t say she plans to stay the night, right?
But watching a movie isn’t a bad idea. There’s no need for unnecessary conversation while watching, and it can kill almost two hours just watching one.
“Okay, got it. Then on that TV over there…”
I was about to say that when Mizushima shook her head vigorously.
“You have a TV in your room, right?”
…Excuse me?

“Ohh, so this is Souta’s room?”
“Listen, don’t touch everything. And don’t you dare open drawers or the closet without permission.”
“Heh, it’s pretty clean. That’s surprisingly nice.”
“Hey, are you even listening?”
I sighed as Mizushima entered my room without really asking, trying to make my point.
It’s not like I have anything particularly embarrassing, but I just don’t like people invading my personal space.
So far, only Higuchi, a friend since elementary school, has been here. Even Ena, my girlfriend at the time, never came.
And now, to think that Mizushima would be the first… It’s totally not what I wanted.
“Fufu, it smells like you all over.”
“Don’t say creepy stuff. It’s my room, so of course, it does.”
I plopped down on the sofa, turned on the TV, and started up the VOD we’re subscribed to.
“Now, we’re watching a movie, right? Sit down and don’t fidget.”
“Okay, okay.”
Mizushima shrugged and sat down right next to me as if it was the most natural thing in the world.
“Hey, move over a bit. The sofa’s not that small.”
“Come on~, no need to be shy. We’re like a couple, aren’t we? This is normal.”
“I’m not shy. It’s just too hot.”
I tried to scoot away from Mizushima, but she immediately snuggled up right next to me, showing no signs of wanting to keep her distance.
I couldn’t be bothered to argue anymore, so I decided not to let it get to me. Once the movie starts, I probably won’t even notice.
“So, what are we watching?”
“How about this one? It’s an adult love story themed around divorce.”
“A messy romance movie, huh? Not really my thing.”
“Okay, what about this one? It’s a heartwarming animal movie based on a true story.”
“No way. I’d rather die than let you see me cry.”
“Doesn’t that just admit you’re a softie for these kinds of movies?”
After some back and forth, considering each other’s preferences, we settled on a classic panic horror movie.
It’s the usual zombie movie where the main characters survive in a world overrun by zombies due to a mysterious virus.
“I’ve never really watched a zombie movie properly before. I’m looking forward to it.”
“Is that so? Well, I’m not much of an expert either.”
“Let’s make it feel like a home theater! Close the curtains and turn off the lights.”
Yeah, yeah, do whatever you want.
With a resigned nod, I selected the play button on the TV screen.

《Darn it! Darn it! This isn’t a joke, you monsters!》
《Edgar, wait! That way is…!》
《Whoa, what is this!? Don’t come any closer!》
《Edgar!!》
The zombie movie we started watching was quite gripping from the beginning, thanks to the impressive CG and the actors’ passionate performances, even though the plot followed a classic trajectory.
Once the movie began, Mizushima calmed down, only occasionally letting out a “wa” or “oh.”
I got so immersed in the movie that I didn’t even notice when Mizushima clung to my arm.
Hmm, we picked this movie pretty randomly, but it seems like I stumbled upon a good one.
《Hey, Dick. What’s going to happen to us now?》
《I don’t know. But we can’t give up. We’ll definitely make it out of this town alive, together.》
《Dick…》
《Sarah…》
However, as the movie reached its middle, it hit the sort of scene that’s a staple in these films—a so-called “steamy” scene. That’s when I was suddenly snapped back to reality.
Watching this kind of scene alone is one thing, but with a girl of my age next to me, even if she’s my arch-enemy, it felt incredibly awkward.
It’s not like I’m particularly conscious of her or anything, right?
As I felt a bit uneasy but kept watching, just as the main characters collapsed onto a bed together, Mizushima suddenly murmured something out of the blue.
“…Souta, what would you do?”
“Huh?”
When I turned to look, Mizushima was no longer watching the movie but staring intently at my face.
In the dim room, only the bright light from the TV faintly illuminated Mizushima’s face.
“Imagine the world’s gone crazy, and right now, it’s just the two of us left in this town.”
As she said this, Mizushima’s slender, beautiful fingers intertwined with mine.
“M-Mizushima…?”
“Surrounded by enemies, in a dire situation… But because of that, whatever’s growing between us becomes stronger. Trust, bonds… love.”
Whispering, Mizushima then climbed onto the sofa, leaning over me as if covering me with her presence.
Inevitably, I ended up lying on my back on the sofa.
“In that situation, if I, like this, came onto you…”
Mizushima’s eyes held the same predatory glint as when she had cornered me on the stair landing at school, like a beast hunting its prey.
“Tell me—what would you do?”
