Chapter 06: A Visit to the Prince’s House
“Aaah… I’m wiped.”
The moment I got home, changed out of my uniform into something more comfortable, and sat down on my bed, a tired sigh slipped out of me.
Honestly, today was even more exhausting than the actual day the whole train incident happened.
I get it—our school isn’t exactly known for having idols or models walking the halls, so people are starving for any kind of juicy story.
But being the subject of that story?
Yeah, that part seriously sucks.
Maybe the celebrities I used to laugh at during gossip segments on TV…
Felt like this too?
If so… I owe them a real apology.
“Ugh, my phone again… Wait, this number’s called me a bunch of times already.”
If they’ve tried this many times, maybe it really is something important.
And since I’m home now, I might as well answer.
Could it be someone local?
“Hello?”
“Ah… Is this the phone of Saito Kujou-san?”
“…Yeah, that’s me.”
I didn’t recognize the voice, but they sounded very polite.
“I’m terribly sorry for calling out of the blue. My name is Suzune Hoshina.”
“Oh—on the train…”
As soon as I heard “Hoshina,” Rei Hoshina’s face flashed in my mind.
The high school boy who got attacked on the train.
Right, the police did say they’d pass my contact info to the victim’s side.
And judging by the calm tone and mature voice,
This must be his mother.
“The other day… thank you so much for helping Rei. Truly… from the bottom of my heart, thank you.”
“No, no… I’m sure it’s been rough on you too, ma’am.”
“Actually, this might be a bit forward of me, but… I was hoping to speak with you about something.”
After kindly accepting my response, Rei’s mother—Suzune-san—hesitated a little before getting to the main reason for her call.
“I believe you’re already aware, but… that video has been spreading all over the internet.”
“Yeah, I know…”
“Because you helped Rei, you’ve ended up getting caught up in all this too. I’m truly sorry for the trouble we’ve caused you.”
“N-No, please don’t say that. You didn’t do anything wrong.”
The blame lies with that guy in the construction pants who threw the punch,
And with whoever uploaded the video online without permission.
For the record, the original video had already been deleted from the platform.
Once people realized that both the victim and the attacker were minors, and their faces were shown clearly, the backlash hit hard.
The uploader panicked and ended up deleting not just the video—but their whole account.
“So, regarding how we handle things from here on out… I was hoping we could sit down and discuss it properly with you.”
“Yeah, I understand. That’s probably a good idea.”
Right now, the top priority in all of this had to be Rei—the victim who was assaulted.
And honestly, I’d already been thinking that we should be on the same page about how to handle things going forward.
“So, I’m terribly sorry to ask this, but… would it be possible for you to come to our home, Kujou-san?”
“Huh… I mean, I don’t mind.”
“Technically, it should be us visiting you instead. But with the way things are right now… even meeting in public might not be ideal.”
“Yeah, I get that. If people see everyone involved in the video meeting up, it could get messy.”
You never know what kind of rumors people might start.
And with how things have been, some bored onlookers might try to record us and post yet another video online.
“Also, Rei wants to thank you in person. But… the face is still swollen and hasn’t fully healed yet, so…”
“I see. That makes sense. In that case, I’ll come over to your place.”
“Thank you so much. Our address is—”
Once I agreed, Suzune-san got right to it and began laying out the plan clearly and efficiently from the other side of the call.
◇◇◇◆◇◇◇
“You must be Kujou-sama, here to visit the Hoshina residence in Room 3601. Please wait just a moment.”
“Y-Yes…”
This place felt like another world.
As the sharply dressed concierge checked something on their tablet,
I stood there awkwardly, glancing around the entrance lobby.
The floor was covered in thick, soft carpet.
The antique-looking sofa set, the framed artwork on the walls, the perfectly arranged flower displays that were probably changed regularly—
All of it screamed expensive at a single glance.
Today was Saturday.
Since we agreed to meet on the weekend, I’d been invited to the Hoshina family’s home.
And as it turned out… that home was a luxury high-rise tower apartment.
“Your visit has been confirmed. Please, allow me to escort you.”
“T-Thank you…”
The concierge opened the elevator door, inserted a special key, tapped something on the panel,
Then pressed the button for the correct floor.
Apparently, it was programmed so the elevator wouldn’t stop on any other floor.
“Ugh, my ears just popped.”
It was a direct high-speed elevator, so despite the height, it reached the designated floor in no time.
(Ding-Dong~♪)
“Yes, this is the Hoshina residence.”
“Hi, it’s Kujou.”
“We’ve been expecting you. I’ll open the door now.”
Right after the voice cut off, the automatic door in front of me slid open.
So not only was there a concierge on the first floor,
Even the individual floors had their own auto-lock security systems.
Talk about next-level security…
“Welcome, Kujou-kun. Thank you for coming all the way out here today.”
“…Ah, Rei-kun. Hello.”
I’d assumed Rei’s mother, Suzune-san, would be the one to greet me,
But it was Rei himself who opened the door and welcomed me in.
He wasn’t in his school uniform today.
Just like on the train, he wore a hoodie and casual pants—
But for some reason, even indoors, he had his hood up and a black mask covering his face.
“Sorry for showing up like this. My face is still a bit swollen, and I’m kind of embarrassed.”
He spoke softly, touching his mask with a slightly apologetic look.
“No worries, your mom already explained everything. Still, you’ve really been through a lot.”
“Not at all… If you hadn’t stepped in, Kujou-kun, who knows what would’ve happened. Thank you again—for everything. I’m Rei Hoshina. First year in high school.”
“I’m Saito Kujou. Looks like we’re the same year, huh?”
We redid our rushed introductions from the train and I took another look at Rei.
With the mask and hood covering most of his face, it was hard to tell—
But at least he didn’t seem seriously injured. That alone was a relief.
Still, even with all that covering, his good looks were undeniable.
There was this subtle charm to him that you couldn’t miss.
Man… being good-looking really is something else.
“Come on in. No point standing around here chatting.”
“Alright. Thanks for having me.”
As I stepped inside, guided by Rei—the host of the house—
I couldn’t help but think,
He’s kinda different from the impression I had.
I had no idea…
That this visit was going to be way longer than expected.
