The Guy Who Messed Up Is Gradually Doing His Best - Chapter 147
“Good morning, sensei.”
“Oh, good morning, Taketo-kun.”
I exchanged my usual morning greetings with Niiyama-sensei, but… today, she seems a little… restless? It’s very unusual to see her like this. I wonder if something happened.
“Yes, it was broadcast last night. The song collaboration that Taketo-kun was in. Sensei watched it too.”
Oh, I see. She wanted to hear about the show. The news of my appearing in the singing collaboration spread throughout the school the day after I got the offer. Of course, the culprit was our class. Most of the class work part-time at the Armed Girls’ office, so the news spread quickly.
It was my first recording, and a lot happened… I haven’t told everyone yet, but I’ve also been offered a chance to work with the Shining Boys.
Manager Minamino-san had contacted Manager Nakayama-san.
I received an offer for a food show, which has nothing to do with singing. Five men (me and the Shining Boys) will each be paired with a partner (female) and compete in a cooking battle. It seems like it will be the same as last time, Minamin TV, because they think everyone wants to see the men’s competition, but I’m not sure what to do.
Also, I received an email from the Psychic Sports Association inviting me to watch psychic sports, which is another email unrelated to singing.
According to Mil-san, their popularity is declining, so they might want me to support them. After hearing from Mil-san what kind of sport it is, I’ve become a little interested in psychic sports. She said she’ll send me tickets, so I’m thinking it might be a good idea to go watch a game.
“Thank you. So, how was it?”
As I was remembering that, I asked, and the teacher stopped dead in her tracks and turned her face towards me.
“It was really… uh… cough… amazing, wasn’t it? Sensei was very moved.”
Huh, that’s strange. Just for a split second, it didn’t look like the usual stern face of the teacher…
“Taketo-kun? Is something wrong?”
“No.”
The teacher, tilting her head in a curious way, was the usual teacher. It must have been my imagination after all…
From then on, although her tone was still her usual matter-of-fact style, she would clearly express her thoughts on the program, saying things like “I really enjoyed that part,” “It gave me energy to watch,” or “Sensei was so moved, I watched it several times.”
However, it’s not something she’d go out of my way to record and watch. I’m sure the teacher was just being kind by exaggerating.
“Thank you. I’m glad to hear you say that, sensei.”
“Taketo-kun was working very hard, wasn’t he? That level of telekinesis isn’t something just anyone can do… Not even Nouriki-sensei… Well, that’s not good.”
Is Nouriki-sensei bad? I wonder what that means; it’s intriguing. I couldn’t hear her well because her voice was quiet, but when I asked her to repeat it, she said it was nothing, so what could it have been?
I walk side-by-side with that teacher, but I still feel like the teacher has changed a bit recently. It’s like… she has become more beautiful?
Oh, and by that, I don’t mean the teacher wasn’t already presentable and wearing makeup. She was normally beautiful, but… what am I even saying?
I’m starting to lose track of what I’m even saying. But still, something just feels off.
Could it be that she changed her makeup style…? Or… I glanced at the name tag on the teacher’s chest. It wasn’t there yesterday.
No, no, this was just about the students; it shouldn’t have anything to do with the teachers.
As I was thinking that, I accidentally touched the teacher’s shoulder, who was walking closer than I thought, and quickly stepped back.
The teacher doesn’t seem to mind, but I instinctively pull away because of my past life’s experiences (sexual harassment). It’s hard to maintain an appropriate distance.
“””Good morning, Taketo-kun!”””
As I walked down the hallway, nodding along to the teacher’s story, I heard everyone’s voices, as they always greeted me.
“Good morning.”
“I saw the song collaboration.”
“Taketo-kun was cool.”
“I’m falling even more in love.”
“The Beauty Bunny was also good.”
“Everyone watched. Thank you.”
I wave back to everyone waving at me from inside the classroom, out into the hallway. Everyone also has name tags on their chests.
This started about a week after the ‘Announcement from the Student Council’ arrived again (for the second time), which was the week after I had discussed the matter of the fiancé with Ichinomiya-senpai. Around that time, any student who showed even a little interest in me started wearing their name tag.
Of course, I get approached more often than before, but the name tags are honestly a relief because there were kids who would talk to me, but I wouldn’t know their names.
So far, I haven’t seen any students without name tags, but it’s unlikely that everyone is wearing one.
I think that because my school life hasn’t changed much from before, but it’s also possible that the excellent student council has managed to coordinate things well. In fact, Ichinomiya-senpai and the others seem busy. I won’t be able to hold my head high around Ichinomiya-senpai and the others for a while.
“Good morning.”
We all greet the teacher standing at the podium.
“Today, I have some good news for everyone.”
Good news? What could it be? The classroom buzzed a little at the teacher’s words.
“Actually…”
The details are that there are two first-year male students and one second-year male student. They’re starting today. But unlike when I was in school, they’ll come in the morning, at their own pace, and take classes in a separate classroom from the female students, then leave immediately after. It seems they’re starting by helping them get used to the school.
Ah, so that’s why the teacher’s name tag is there. I almost made an embarrassing mistake.
“The first-year students are Koeta Takehito-kun and Onei Sanzou-kun. The second-year student is Mutsuri Shou-kun. I think you’ll all be fine, but please try not to overreact if you see them.”
And so the homeroom ended, and the teacher left the classroom. From then on, during the short time before classes began, everyone was buzzing with excitement about the song collaboration that had aired last night.
Then, my classmates. The name tags they wore around their necks until I got used to the class are now pinned to their chests.
Among them were Saori, Nanako, Tsukune, and Sachiko, the reason being that as my fiancées, they wanted to clearly show that they were interested in me.
We’re together every day, but that’s just how it is.
