Chapter 46: Arrival in Town
We entered the town. The streets were lined with streetlights, and various shops, including eateries, brothels, and food stalls, were open for business.
This town was different from my village; it transformed completely from day to night.
“Since it’s already dark, shall we grab something to eat? Anything you want?”
“Um, I’d like some pasta!”
“Pasta, huh? I wonder if there’s a place around here that serves it.”
I continued to carry Lucina on my back as we explored the town. Most places were open at this hour, but honestly, I wanted to eat quickly.
“How about here? I came here before with a friend and it was good.”
“Wow! This place looks fancy!”
Lucina and I were standing in front of the restaurant. I had eaten here before with my friends, Nine and others. The atmosphere was stylish and it seemed to be popular with women.
“…Hey, this friend you mentioned… was it a girl?”
Lucina asked from my back, her voice a bit lower than usual, and it felt like she was squeezing my back a little tighter.
“Hm? No, it was with three guy friends.”
“!!… Oh, I see! Let’s go inside, Big Brother!”
“Alright.”
Lucina hurried me along, her voice back to its usual cheerful tone.
We went inside. Since it wasn’t appropriate to keep carrying her inside, I had Lucina get down, though she seemed a bit upset. But carrying her inside the restaurant was definitely not okay.
We were led to a table and sat down. Once seated, Lucina looked around the restaurant,
“Wow! The inside of the restaurant is beautiful too!”
“Right? I had the carbonara here before and it was delicious.”
“Ooh! Maybe I’ll have that then. What about you, Big Brother?”
“I’ll have… this one.”
I pointed to the menu. I was going to order the Napolitan. Last time I was here, I was curious about it but ended up choosing carbonara.
“Excuse me. One carbonara and one Napolitan, please.”
“Sure thing. Are you on a date with your girlfriend?”
“Girlfriend? No, no… eheheh!”
“Ah, no, she’s my sister.”
“Oh! I see! My apologies.”
“…”
Lucina, who had been blushing just a moment ago, now looked at me with a serious face. It’s awkward to be mistaken for a couple when we’re siblings, so I had to correct that.
I avoided looking directly into Lucina’s eyes. Because when I glanced at her face a moment ago, there was no sparkle in her eyes, and that was scary.
I tried not to look at Lucina’s face and waited for our food.
Please come quickly.
“Here you go! Your Napolitan and carbonara.”
“Well, now that our order is here, shall we eat?”
“…Yeah.”
After a bit of waiting, our order arrived. Even after the food was served, Lucina seemed a bit down.
“!!!… Delicious! This is really good! Big Brother!!”
“That’s great.”
Lucina took a bite of her carbonara and cheered up just like usual. I was really relieved.
Then I started eating, and Lucina also enjoyed her meal looking very happy.
“…”
“Huh? Is something wrong?”
While I was eating my Napolitan, I noticed Lucina watching me, or more precisely, watching the Napolitan I was eating…
“Can’t help it, here you go.”
“…Really?”
“You want to try this too, right?”
Noticing Lucina’s longing look, I twirled some Napolitan onto my fork and offered it to her. After years of being her big brother, I’ve gotten used to understanding these things.
“Thanks! Yum! This is tasty too!”
“Glad you like it.”
After finishing the meals we ordered, Lucina and I left the restaurant.
“That was delicious! I’m totally full now.”
“That place does serve large portions. It’s getting late, should we head to the inn?”
“Yep! Can you carry me on your back?”
“Yes, yes.”
I gave Lucina a piggyback ride and headed to our usual inn. It was a decent walk away, but still manageable in about ten minutes.
“Look, we’re here.”
“Is this where you always stay, Big Brother?”
“That’s right. I always stay here when I’m in town.”
Lucina and I were standing in front of Gordon’s inn. She looked a bit puzzled at first but soon returned to her usual expression.
I then set her down from my back and we entered the inn.
“It’s been a while, Glenn. Where have you been for the last two days?”
“Ah, I just went back home for a bit.”
“Is that so? And who’s this young lady with you?”
Gordon noticed Lucina standing behind me and tilted his head, puzzled.
“Ah, this is my sister, Lucina. She’s about the same age as your daughter, Rena.”
“Nice to meet you! I’m his sister, Lucina! I’m 15 years old!”
Lucina greeted Gordon energetically with a smile. Gordon looked half surprised, half impressed.
“Wow, she seems like a lively and kind girl. My daughter is the same age. I hope they can be friends.”
“Yes!”
“Here are the keys to Glenn’s room and the young lady’s room.”
“That’s okay! I’ll sleep in the same room as my brother, so one room is fine!”
“Really? One room is enough?”
“Yes!”
Somehow, without my agreement, we ended up with one room. Well, I don’t mind as long as I get to sleep.
“Alright, here. This is the key to the room Glenn always uses.”
“Thanks. Let’s go then.”
“Yep!”
Lucina and I headed to the room I always use. As we opened the door, it looked just like it always does.
“Yawn. I guess it’s about time to go to sleep.”
“Yeah, I’m feeling a bit sleepy too.”
Since we were both tired, we lay down on the bed together. As we lay there, I could feel my eyelids getting heavier.
Ah, I’m going to fall asleep soon.
“Hey, Big Brother.”
“Hmm?”
Lucina spoke to me just as I was about to fall asleep. But I was too sleepy to have much of a conversation.
“Tell me about Rena you mentioned earlier, okay?”
“Ah, tomorrow, tomorrow.”
“You promise?”
“Mhm.”
I fell asleep soon after. I don’t clearly remember our last conversation, but I’ll ask Lucina again tomorrow.
