Chapter 26: Arrival
“I don’t feel like I slept much.”
I crawled out of my sleeping bag and soaked in the morning light. As Liz mentioned, this tent really had nothing in it. A sleeping bag is better than nothing, but it’s still no match for a futon.
“Good morning, thanks for the tent.”
“Morning, Alice. Looks like you slept well.”
Alice had just woken up and came out of the tent while I was starting to make breakfast.
“What are you doing?”
“Just preparing breakfast.”
I continued with the breakfast preparations. Today’s breakfast would be light. I took the leftover rice from yesterday, made some broth, and added flaked salmon to create salmon rice porridge.
“Want to try a bit?”
“Really? Can I?”
“How can I say no with you looking at me like that?”
“Ah, thank you.”
She might not have realized it, but she was looking really eager to eat, just as eager as Liz.
“Then, I might just have a little.”
“Okay, here you go.”
I put about half the usual amount of rice in a bowl, poured in the broth, topped it with salmon, and handed it to Alice.
“Thanks… ymm, Glenn’s cooking is really good.”
“Appreciate it.”
“Good morning… Alice, what are you eating?”
Liz had woken up and was curious about what Alice was eating.
“This? It’s the breakfast Glenn made.”
“That’s not fair, I want some too.”
“Alright, alright.”
“Good morning.”
“Good morning.”
When I started to prepare Liz’s portion, everyone else woke up. It made more sense to prepare breakfast for everyone at once.
“Good morning. Would you two like to have breakfast?”
“Yes, please.”
“Me too, thank you.”
“Alright, just sit and wait a little.”
Then, I handed out the food I had made to everyone. Liz looked like she couldn’t wait any longer.
“It’s comforting. Tasty.”
“Yeah, it really lifts your spirits in the morning.”
“Indeed.”
Everyone liked it. Warm food really is best on a chilly morning.
“Yeah, it turned out well.”
I was pleased with how well it came together.
“Alright, shall we head out?”
After breakfast, we got the carriage going. The weather was clear and the sky looked beautiful.
“Hey…”
“Hm?”
I was looking at the sky when Stella spoke to me. She’s a bit hard to figure out sometimes.
“Is it true you made that yourself?”
“That? Oh, you mean the futon?”
“Yeah, that… Can I buy one from you? I’ll pay a good price!”
“You want to buy a futon… You really want one that badly?”
“Yeah, I love sleeping! That one was amazing!”
“Oh, really? That much, huh?”
Stella’s eyes sparkled as she leaned in really close. She’s very close.
“Okay, I got it. I’ll sell you one later.”
“Really? Thank you!”
Stella looked really happy. Did she sleep on that futon alone? Sure, I made it a bit bigger, but it still must have been cramped for four people to sleep on. Besides, anyone could make that kind of simple futon if they tried, right?
“We’re almost there, everyone.”
Alice’s voice made us all look out of the carriage. The blue sea stretched out before us.
“Wow, it’s beautiful.”
“Yeah, it’s so pretty.”
“Absolutely.”
“Definitely.”
“Alright, we’re here.”
After confirming we had arrived at Fuuro Beach, we got off the carriage. There’s a market here too, so we should check it out later.
While I was thinking about that, an older man approached us.
“Are you the ones who took on this quest?”
He looked like an elderly man, with slightly tanned skin and a strong build.
“No, we’re just here to assist. The one who accepted the quest is this gentleman.”
“We’re just tagging along. This is the man you’re looking for.”
Alice pointed to me, making it clear they hadn’t accepted the quest. Since I was the one who did, I stepped forward to greet him.
“My apologies.”
“Don’t worry about it. The quest involves dealing with the nearby monsters, right?”
The old man bowed his head. I assured him it was fine and got straight to the point.
“Yes, lately the monsters along the coast have increased dramatically. We’re having trouble.”
“I understand. We’ll start immediately.”
Better to handle this quickly and then buy some fresh seafood afterward.
