Saturday, 9:00 PM. I opened my phone and launched the calling app. I started a group call with the three close friends I had made since enrolling. After the ringing tone sounded a few times, the chime signaled that the call had connected.

“Hello.”

I gave the standard greeting for a call and waited for their reaction.

『I can hear you.』

Each of their responses came back.

“Alright, let’s discuss tomorrow’s New Male Student Welcome Recreation.”

The strategy meeting among the four male students who had enrolled this year began.

『So, Ao really did go to school today.』

The one speaking in a laid-back tone was Rui Nishiyama-kun. Though he moved at his own pace, he was a considerate friend who would soothe the other two whenever they got into an argument.

“Well, we were told so suddenly after school on Friday. I thought the only way was to go to school today and gather information during breeding practice.”

Today was Saturday, a day when male students were not required to attend. However, breeding practice could be performed voluntarily, and one could obtain information about this school from their partner during those sessions. Since the only chance to investigate the “New Male Student Welcome Recreation”—which our homeroom teacher, Haga, had mentioned on Friday afternoon—was during Saturday’s mating practice, I had decided to show up today.

I had invited them to this group call to share the information I had gained there with my friends.

『Still, that’s impressive. Going to school on a Saturday just for the sake of gathering information.』

『Tell me about it. I couldn’t do it. Even on weekdays, I’m at the point where I want to pay two million points just to skip.』

The one with the polite tone was Kosei Minamino-kun. He had a methodical personality; he apparently took thorough notes during lessons and studied quite a bit at home. His academic ability was high enough that he could explain things if you asked him during breaks, making him likely the top student in our group.

The one with the slightly rougher tone was Yuga Higashiya-kun. He had a competitive personality and said he had been good at sports until entering high school. At this school, the breeding practice held during the sixth period essentially served as the physical education class for boys. Upon learning this, Yuga-kun had been quite depressed.

Since male students didn’t have club activities, he mentioned that he exercised a lot at home. These two often clashed over one thing or another, but they were in total agreement regarding their thoughts on this matter. Even when they were at odds, the usual flow was for Rui-kun and me to calm them down and settle things peacefully.

“Ahaha, well, you get points for it, too.”

There was only a one-month protection period, and the number of times one could perform mating practice during this time was limited. Therefore, I had judged that it was better to go on Saturdays during this period, even if it meant pushing myself. I had shared that thought with the group, but since only a week had passed since enrollment, the other three hadn’t gone today, leaving me as the only one who attended.

“Getting straight to the point, I’ll tell you what I heard about the recreation.”

I heard the sound of the three of them catching their breath. It was no wonder; even just from the name, the “New Male Student Welcome Recreation” sounded ominous to the male students. They wouldn’t want to miss a single detail regarding an event with such a disturbing name.

“Out of the three types of games Haga-sensei mentioned, the first game they play every year seems to be fixed. It’s the Partner Selection Game.”

The three voices harmonized. They probably couldn’t wrap their heads around it just by hearing the name.

“Yeah. The male students nominate a female student to be their partner. Then, the vast majority of female students who weren’t nominated vote on the ten pairs, and the pair with the most votes wins. That’s the game.”

『Hmm, I have a question. What are the criteria for the voting?』

Rui-kun threw out a question while remaining as laid-back as ever. His tone hadn’t changed, but I could sense his seriousness.

“There are no set criteria for voting. The female students who vote get points if they vote for the pair that receives the most total votes, so I think they’ll aim for the pair they think will be the most popular.”

『In the end, we don’t know the clear criteria for the voting. Is it like, doing something out of the ordinary to grab attention when you nominate a girl?』

『So, we just have to put on a performance or something?』

“Exactly! Apparently, the majority of male students last year just nominated someone normally, but a few of them put on a show or nominated S-class students to gather votes.”

I had already shared information about the S-class with the group. We knew of their existence because S-class students had sent us offers, and I had gathered information through mating practice.

『Performances aside, is it really okay to mess with S-class students?』

“Well, the male student who nominated an S-class student apparently got taken a liking to and was bought. But since the winner of last year’s vote was the one who nominated an S-class student, I think it’s a risky but very effective move. Plus, since the subsequent events are done in cooperation with your partner, having a highly capable S-class student as a partner would be a huge advantage.”

I had no information on the S-class students at all.

However, not everyone necessarily would buy a male student immediately, and there was a possibility that they wouldn’t buy you if they didn’t like you. Depending on the rewards, the risk might be worth it.
