Episode 11: A friend

“Well then, goodbye, everyone.”

The teacher got off the podium and left the classroom.

After a long, long day of classes, it was finally time to go return back home.

I put my luggage in my backpack and head out of the classroom after saying farewell to Kisaragi.

“Ah, Yuugao. Just the right time.”

“What is it, teacher?”

“Could you take this to the science room?”

She handed over a cardboard box that looked reasonably heavy.

“I understand”

“Really, you’re always dependable.”

Well, it’s fine, since I have nothing to do even if I go home early.

I put my belongings in the classroom and took the cardboard to the special building.

Then I put those pieces of stuff in the science room and returned to the classroom.

“Ah, Yuugao-kun”

“Hello, Sakuragi-san.”

“What have you been up to?”

“I’ve been helping my teacher.”

“So admirable.”

Recently, I didn’t think it was necessary for me to avoid Sakuragi-san per se, so I tend to reply whenever she talks to me upon meeting.

After all, I thought that rumors were, in fact, just rumors.

“Ah, Yuugao-kun. Are you free now?”

“I’m free. I was just returning home.”

“Oh, I see. Since we will be going in the same direction halfway, why don’t we go home together?”

“Okay~. Let’s go together.”

There’s no reason to refuse her, so I decided to go home together.

“Yugao-kun, you’re really kind, aren’t you?”

“What happened? All of a sudden.”

“Since you were the only one who came to help me.”

“Isn’t it natural to help someone in trouble?”

“That’s not true!! Besides, there are many rumors about me, but still, you treat me like you treat anyone else.”

“Well, after I talked and interacted with you, Sakuragi-san, you came out to be quite normal, so I thought that maybe the rumors weren’t true after all.”

“UU!! A–as I thought, Yugao-kun is really kind.”

She was looking down shyly, fidgeting.

“Okay then…”

“Go ahead.”

“Um… well, if you don’t like it, you can refuse it with all you got… right?”

“Sure.”

“It is really okay to refuse, okay?”

“Sure. Go ahead”

She just wouldn’t quiet down and looked restless. However, she took a deep breath and stared right into my eyes.

“Um… please be friends with me!”

“Sure, I look forward to being friends with you.”

“eh? O–OHh, yes, me too.”

Saying that Sakuragi-san lowered her head vigorously. I wish she wouldn’t be so formal, though.

“Y-you really also became my friend…!!”

Yay!!

Saying that, Sakuragi-san took small guts pose.
[TL note: The pose called ‘Gut’s pose’ became famous after a specific jap TV had it popularised. Though it is not that famous now, I think]

After all, Sakuragi-san is indeed a pure-hearted person.
[TL: Oh, I so want to retort here.]

“Say, can we go home together from now on?”

“Sure, rather, since I have no one to return home with, I will be happy to do so.”

“Oh, really? T–then, can you also have lunch with me whenever you don’t have it with your friends? Would you like to eat with me?”

“Aren’t you also my friend? Doing something like that is just a given.”

“UU!! Thank — you.”

Oh, come to think of it…

“Last time, I ran away, and we didn’t manage to exchange each other’s contact information. So why don’t we exchange them now? I’m sorry about that time.”

“It’s all okay. I’ll exchange!!”

Sakuragi-san nodded happily.
